WhatsApp is one of most commonly used cross-platform instant messenger apps. It’s available on almost all platforms and even Windows Phone 7 will be getting it soon. However, one some platforms, it’s not free and it just won’t work if you don’t have a phone. WhatsApp isn’t made for devices that don’t function as a phone. It specifically requires a phone number to be activated.
WE live in a world full of stubborn people who believe in not believing what I just said. And it’s thanks to those people that we have things like jailbreak, rooting, hacking, Custom ROMs, unlocks and much much more. It’s also thanks to them that we were able to install and use WhatsApp on an iPad. Now, we have a tutorial on how to do the same with the Apple iPod Touch.
The iPod Touch, since iPod Touch doesn’t have a SIM, is not compatible with WhatsApp. But, if you follow this tutorial, then you can force the WhatsApp messenger to run on your iPod Touch 4G too. You can try it out on your older iPod Touch and let us know if it works on them.
Guide to Install WhatsApp on iPod Touch:
Install WhatsApp on your iPod Touch. If you couldn’t find it on the App Store, then you can download it manually or use Installous to get it. You’ll need a jailbroken iPod Touch of course.
Open iPhone Configuration utility and select your iPod Touch from the left-hand side. Now head over to Applications and click on Add IPA.
Select the downloaded WhatsApp ipa, which should be in the iTunes Media> Mobile Applications folder on your computer.
After selection click on install and it should be installed on your iPod Touch.
Now go to Cydia and search for WhatsPad. Install and reboot your device.
That’s all you need to do. Open WhatsApp and give a valid mobile number so that it can send the 3-digit verification code and you’re good to go. You’ll need a Wi-Fi connection always, since iPod Touch doesn’t have any other means to connect to the internet.
Certain apps have certain limitations, for example, by default WhatsApp doesn’t work on an iPad or iPad 2. WhatsApp is a cross-platform messenger through which you can text, send pictures and videos over the internet. It’s not however, a free application and isn’t available for the Apple iPad either. Now though, there’s a Cydia tweak that will make it work on the iPad.
WhatsPad is a Cydia app that can be used to make WhatsApp messenger work just as it does on an iPhone and you’ll be able to send and receive data, texts etc. Since, WhatsApp is not natively available for the iPad, you’ll have to download it using iTunes and then use iPhone Configuration Utility to install it on the iPad.
How-to Install WhatsApp on iPad
Download iPhone Configuration Utility from here(Mac and PC).
Purchase and download WhatsApp from iTunes, then open the configuration utility. You will see your iPad listed on the left-hand side. Select your iPad, then look for the Applications tab on the right hand side and click on Add. Point it to your WhatsApp ipa file that you just downloaded, usually located in iTunes Media>Mobile Applications on your hard drive. Once you find it, scroll down in the Configuration tool and you should see a Install button. Click on it and WhatsApp will start installing on your iPad.
After installation, open Cydia and look for WhatsPad in the Big Boss repository. If you don’t find it, hit refresh or reload Cydia. Install WhatsPad, a small file, and then open WhatsApp. Voila!! It’s running.
You’ll have to activate WhatsApp before you start using it, so remember to use a number that works because the activation code will be sent to you via SMS. That’s all there is!! Since the app is designed for iPhone and iPod Touch, you could use FullForce Cydia app to force it to utilize all the pixels on your iPad screen. This will work on both iPad and iPad 2 models and WhatsPad is a free app.
