The Sony PSP 2 Officially Revealed, A Real Game Changer

The day has finally arrived, Sony has finally revealed a next-generation power packed portable gaming device (Sony PSP 2), a successor to the Sony PSP. It’s been code-named NGP, I’ve no idea what that stands for, but once you know what’s packed inside this 5-inch beast, you’ll never want to know what NGP means.

The reveal took place today at the PlayStation Event being held in Tokyo and took everyone by surprise. Below you’ll find some exclusive pictures and the official specification list. The Sony PSP 2 a.k.a NGP has some really cool hardware that will take gaming to the next level.Sony PSP 2

Oh yeah, and NGP stands for next generation portable. Surely this is a gaming device for the next generation, but it will also act as a medium of social interaction. The Sony PSP 2 will not run on UMD’s, instead they’ll be using some kind of flash memory on which no information is available. So here we go, the official specification list;

What the Next Generation Sony PSP 2 will have:

  • 5-inch OLED Capacitive Display with a resolution of 960 x 544 and
  • A new UI known as Live Area showcasing various home-screens and built in Social Media apps via the Playstation Network
  • A quad-core ARM Cortex A9 CPU
  • A quad-core Imagination Technologies SGX543MP4+ GPU
  • Multiple Capacitive Touch Pads in the front and also on the back for extra and new controls
  • Both Front and Rear Cameras
  • Stereo speakers and a Microphone
  • Dual Analog sticks and the other normal gameplay buttons
  • A Six Axis Motion Sensing System consisting of 3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis accelerometer and a 3-axis electronic compass
  • Built in GPS, 3G and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth for location based services and Internet connectivity/sharing
