Live Tiles are the heart and soul of Windows Phone, and no other phone has them. People can arrange the iconic Start screen however they want by pinning their favorite people, apps, music, games, photos and more. Three sizes of Live Tiles and 20 bright color choices including cobalt, crimson and lime mean you can personalize your Start screen to be unmistakably yours.

In addition to Live Tiles, Windows Phone 8 offers a range of new features to make your smartphone experience even more personal, including these:

  • ·         The only phone with Live Apps. Live Apps bring information right to the Start screen, such as the Groupon deal of the day, flight information and news headlines. With Windows Phone 8, Live Appssuch as Facebook can even deliver real-time information right to your lock screen with updated wallpaper.
  • ·         Top apps. The Windows Phone Store has 120,000 apps to choose from, with hundreds added every day and hits coming soon such as Angry Birds Star Wars, Cut the Rope Experiments, Disney’s Where’s My Water, LivingSocial, Temple Run, Urbanspoon and many more.
  • ·         Kid’s Corner. Exclusive to Windows Phone 8, Kid’s Corner is a worry-free way to share your phone with your kids, so they can play Angry Birds without texting your angry boss. Parents can now hand over their phones to the kids without worrying about deleted photos, misdirected emails, unapproved purchases or accidental phone calls. After a simple setup, parents can activate a specialized place on the phone for kids to play — complete with their own customizable Start screens — where they can access only the apps, games, music and videos picked by parents.
  • ·         Rooms. Sometimes you want to share and chat with one group, not your entire social network. Rooms allow you to create private groups of people who have Windows Phone 8 —like your family members, best friends or fantasy football league—and easily connect with just them. Chat, share calendars, shopping lists or photos in an ongoing conversation where only those invited can join in. You can share some aspects of Rooms with friends and family on other smartphones as well.
  • ·         Wallet and near-field communications.Windows Phone 8 brings together the best of new wallet technologies, including payments via near-field communications (NFC).1The Wallet can also store your debit, credit, loyalty and membership card information on your phone.
  • ·         Always-on, premium Skype experience. With the new Skype app, coming soon to Windows Phone 8, you can make and receive Skype calls just like a regular phone call. Simply tap a friend or family member’s contact card in the People Hub, or just pick up when the phone rings. Skype is always on and available so you can choose how to connect with people.

Aircel Pocket 3G : New Plans

Aircel is launching a set of new 3G Plans and we would like to share the same with you. You would recall that 3 years ago when Aircel launched Pocket Internet, it changed the way mobile internet was perceived and consumed. It truly democratised data for the consumer.

With 3G we are at a similar juncture. While consumers understand the benefit of 3G and there is a desire to adopt, 3G remains out of their reach. With Aircel’s new offering of Pocket Internet Smart has Aircel is ready to revolutionize the landscape of mobile internet unlocking the true 3G potential, both for the consumer and the business.

PocketInternet Smart will offer Aircel consumers unlimited 3G at attractive prices. It will also for the first time, offer, unlimited 3G and 2G data on a single recharge and the plans will be device agnostic. These innovative features will provide consumers benefits such as freedom from data bills shocks, ease of recharge and convenience of using the same plan across devices – mobiles, tablets and dongles

Aircel Pocket Internet Smart Offering:

Here are 10 reasons why we feel the Aircel’s Pocket Internet Smart would help the consumers:

  1. 3G is currently 10X more expensive than the 2G offering.
  2. Currently, a customer needs to buy separate packs to browse on 2G and 3G.
  3.  As of now most 3G packs in the market allow limited browsing, i.e. post free usage user is charged at 10p/10KB that effectively translate into INR10/MB leading to huge bills!
  4. There is no availability of daily, weekly or sachet unlimited 3G packs for intermittent/ casual usage.
  5. With the current 3G/2G packs, the customer has to keep toggling between 2G and 3G on his phone so that he doesn’t end up using his expensive 3G data in 2G network. With the new plans, he no longer needs to do this.
  6. Dongle plans from Aircel now start at as low as 198 per month. This is also an unlimited plan and the customer can freely consume data without worrying about the bill.
  7. The new dongle plans are also a major deviation from the current set up. Unlimited plans from Aircel start at below Rs 200. There is a possibility of using Aircel card on existing dongles (which could be a Micromax/ Huawei/ etc.) and benefit with these new plans.
  8. For the first time, Aircel has come out with low priced plans, which don’t have a rider – there’s not even a speed rider. Even the lowest plan, at Rs. 8, comes with a 3.6Mbps speed.
  9. All the plans can be used on roaming. So a customer moving to a 2G area can consume data seamlessly. Also, even if he moves to a 2G circle, he can continue consuming data seamlessly (at 2G speeds).
  10. At and above Rs. 198, the customer can freely move his plan from mobile to dongle to tab etc. There is no restrictions on type of device – which is currently there on every operator – including Aircel.

Huawei Launches the Honor with HD Display and 3 Days Battery Life

Times like this are rare. Why? Because Huawei doesn’t usually launch mobile phones, they’re are good at something else, but it looks like they could be good at making mobile phones too. Huawei just unveiled the Honor, a 4 inch FWGA HD touch phone running on Android 2.3.5 that has some really good hardware inside it and also quite good looking.

If you remember, this is not the first time that Huawei is introducing new mobile phones that run on the Android OS. We actually went for a live Press Release of those mobile phones known as Ideos X5, Ideos X2 and Ideos Chat. Though, all those phones were quite good in the area of hardware, but not so good when it came to the Android OS, since they were either running on Android 2.1 or 2.2. However, this time, they’ve kept that in mind and launched the Huawei Honor with Android 2.3.5, the latest version currently available.

The features of this phone is quite impressive, I mean that FWVGA 4 inch HD display does make you go ‘whoa’. Actually, that’s because of the way it looks, strikingly similar to the Samsung Galaxy S. Victor Xu, the chief marketing officer of Huawei Device said;

Huawei Honor encapsulates the Huawei brand – it features simple-to-use, advanced technology that allows people to share and connect easily. Honor provides a package of features that elevates the smartphone user experience, including an ultra-long battery life, so critical to the performance of smartphones but yet is often downplayed. Consumers now have a high-performing smartphone that lets them communicate, connect, entertain and share content for an extended period of time without compromising on looks, technology or style.

Let me list down it’s features then, excluding the beautiful display and Android OS;

  • 1.4 Ghz Single core processor
  • 4.0 inch 16M 16:9 true color FWVGA capacitive touch screen
  • 8 megapixels auto focus camera supporting HDR, with 2 megapixels front-facing camera
  • Measures 10.9mm (0.43 inches) at its thinnest point and weighs around 140g (0.3 pounds)
  • WiFi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth V2.1 with A2DP, Micro USB 2.0 port
  • 512M RAM + 4G ROM memory with a memory card slot up to 32GB
  • 1900mAh battery
  • Exclusive Huawei user-interface with a dynamic weather widget
  • 160GB network capacity CloudDrive
  • DLNA-certified enables sharing with other DLNA-certified devices
Now, with all those features and hardware, one would normally expect about 1 day of batter backup. This is where you’d be wrong, because Huawei claim that this device provides up to 3 days of battery life on normal usage. I bet normal means keeping it switched off.
Anyways, we have no clue about the pricing or availability. However, it should be available in Asia around December this year and maybe it will never hit other countries. At least that’s what the press release says.
Would you like to buy the Huawei Honor or will you be making a face when I you hear Huawei?

Nokia N950 Revealed, But Only for Developers

Nokia has already announced one other mobile that will be running on their MeeGo operating system, and here’s another one. The Nokia N9, which was announced earlier is a real masterpiece that corporates the latest in hardware and design. But, along with that, Nokia also announced another MeeGo device, the N950. Nokia N950, is supposedly the successor of Nokia N900 and is based on the Nokia N9 with similar features.

nokia-n950

The Nokia N950, as apposed to the N9, won’t be mass produced as it will only be sold in limited numbers and is specially made for the Nokia developers. Developers can use the Nokia N950 to break in to stuff and also create apps for the Nokia N9, and has hardware designed and made for development. There aren’t any official pictures available of the device yet, but Engadget claims to have got some shots from a developer video, which shows that the N950 is pretty much similar to the N900 and the Nokia E7.

There isn’t any official word on the specifications of the device either, but it looks like the Nokia N950 will pack a 4-inch TFT LCD screen, an 8-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and an aluminum body. Although, the specification’s aren’t anywhere close to that of the Nokia N9, it will still be a powerful phone that you cannot get your hands on. Nokia plans on selling it only to the developers under some kind of a secret developers program, without warranty or any support. It will however, get timely software updates, which you can still count on.

So, don’t even think about asking the price for the Nokia N950. If you’re a developer and happen to get hold of this device then do let us know about the pricing and the hardware.

Have you used the Nokia N900? If you have, then how was the experience on the MeeGo OS?

Huawei Press Event: Future Plans and Strategies

Huawei, the Chinese telecommunications company has a very bright future in India, at least that’s what professionals suggest. It’s most likely that a something of this sort will happen in the coming years as Huawei plans to launch some new products for the Indian market that is certainly going to help them achieve what they plan.

huawei-logo

Few days ago, Huawei conducted a very lavish Press Release that we were invited to. The event was of a highly sophisticated nature and was mostly attended by all those major Business heads, Journalists, Press and other Media guys. The Huawei Y Generation devices event took place at the Oberoi Hotel in Delhi and we got the chance to attend the Press Release live. We were there when Huawei announced their plans to capture the mobile device market in India with the launch of three new devices.

Huawei Smartphone PR

They plan on having at least 15% share of the Indian smartphone market to themselves in the coming next year and they are actually working very hard to achieve this. At present they’ve managed to sell about 100 million cell phones, and have a net asset of $28 billion. Their main focus is India is the cheap smartphone sector, which they want to be a leading part of, in the Top 5 brands they say. Huawei claims that they can achieve this target, since they are already the No. 1 brand in the world when it comes to mobile broadband devices. Huawei was also the first to launch an LTE device in Europe. By investing $2 Billion in the Indian market, Huawei has stepped up and taken a bold action even though the name is not a familiar one when it comes to mobile phones. The main competitor for Huawei in India will be Micromax, which has been successfully in selling cheap priced feature phones.

These three newly launched smartphones, about which I’ll be covering in the coming posts, are mainly aimed towards the student mass, first time jobbers, small town people and also the modern spoilt brats who like to carry more than 2 mobile phones for unknown purposes. The phones are all priced below INR 14,ooo and pack in some really nice features.

Where do you believe Huawei will be in the coming 3-5 years? Would you buy a Huawei smartphone, feature packed yet cheaply priced!!
