How to Get iPhone SMS Delivery Report

When you send a text message to someone, you always want to know if it was delivered to them or not. If you’re using an iPhone, the stock SMS app won’t give you any such delivery notifications, except on the new iMessage. There are third party apps like BiteSMS that do provide extra features and a delivery notification as well, but wouldn’t it be nice if the original SMS app had it. Well, if you’re using a jailbroken iPhone, then you’re in luck, because there’s a tweak to make that happen.

How to Get iPhone SMS Delivery Report

SMSConfirmation is a Cydia tweak for jailbroken iPhones that brings the much needed iPhone SMS delivery report to the stock Message app. Normally, all the other mobile operating systems do provide the option of whether you want to get the delivery notification. The notifications are quite useful, as it lets you know if the recipient has received your text or not, specially if you’re in a area where this is low network coverage. Times like those, SMS delivery notifications on the iPhone could be pretty helpful.

When you send a text message, a popup appears saying Message sent, which means that your text has been delivered to the recipient. Once the tweak is installed on your iOS device, it will show you the notification pop-up even if you navigate away from the Message app. However, it doesn’t utilize the new iOS 5 notification center features, so no banner/lockscreen notifications. All you get is a popup in the form of the older iOS notifications, which is still not bad.

The tweak is available for free from ModMyi repo in Cydia or you could just perform a search to find it. Once it’s installed, you’ll have to respring your device to be able to receive the notifications and there are no settings for the tweak. If you don’t like it, and want to get rid of it, then all you have to do is head over to Cydia and uninstall the tweak.

Try this tweak and let us know if it worked for you and also if it’s useful. iPhone SMS delivery report is something that we’ve all been wanting to have on our devices from a long time.

Semitethered Jailbreak for iOS 5 Released [Updated]

Most of the users who’re on iOS 5 haven’t jailbroken their device yet, even those who had jailbroken before are thinking twice. Why? Right now, iOS 5 is pretty new and the awesome jailbreak developers have only managed to conjure a working tethered jailbreak for all devices except the iPad 2. So, obviously nobody would want to tethered jailbreak their iOS device.

An untethered jailbreak is however in development, as reported by iH8sn0w, but we have no time or date for the release or any updates on the work. Thus, a semitethered jailbreak seems like a better idea right now. If you haven’t heard of this term before, then let me tell you what it is. It’s somewhere in between an untethered jailbreak and a tethered jailbreak, it’s better than the latter, but comes with a catch.

Earlier today, Cydia developer, BigBoss released a semitethered jailbreak for iOS 5, which is now available for download from the BigBoss repo in Cydia. A semitethered jailbreak will let you reboot your device when away from your PC, you need not connect your iOS device to the computer every time you want to reboot. However, after rebooting, Cydia will not work, nor will any of the jailbroken apps or tweaks. Also, some of the stock iOS apps such as Safari and Mail will not work.

Now, that’s bad to an extent. But, it can be useful in certain scenarios, where you will need to reboot your iOS device, but aren’t close to your PC. You can get the Cydia package from the BigBoss repo by adding this to source: http://thebigboss.org/semitether.

Will you be performing a semitethered jailbreak on iOS 5?

UPDATE:  The semitether jailbreak for iOS 5 has been updated to fix certain bugs, here’s the list.

1) Much more stable with new mobile substrate
2) Can patch safari so it works in the non-jailbreak reboot mode
3) App to monitor the status of your semitether and reapply. Check after Cydia installs.

This means that you can run Safari and all those jailbroken Notification center widgets after performing a semitethered boot. Here’s a tutorial on how to semi-tether jailbreak your iOS 5 device.

IntelliScreenX is the Best iOS 5 Jailbreak Tweak

It’s been almost over a week since Apple released the final version of iOS 5 to the public, and almost everyone has gone ahead and upgraded their devices. Not many have jailbroken their iOS devices yet, mainly because there is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 yet. But, no matter, this post about this amazingly awesome jailbreak app for iOS 5, will definitely make you go all tethered jailbreak on your iOS device.

Yes, I can guarantee you, that after watching the demo video for this new jailbreak tweak called IntelliScreenX, you will or will want to jailbreak. IntelliScreenX is a notification center Cydia tweak, that adds a ton of new widgets on to your Notification tray from Twitter to RSS feeds and much much more. When I say ‘much more’, I actually mean about 15 widgets in this single tweak. Yes, it’s pretty impressive, but it has another amazing features as well, that all the iOS 5 users are really going to like.

IntelliScreenX can be accessed from the iOS lockscreen! That is awesome and also one major missing feature in iOS 5, because every time you want to check your Notification Center widgets, you have to unlock and then view them. This Cydia tweak fits perfectly in your Notification Center and adds various widgets such as an in-depth weather reporter, RSS feed reader, Twitter widget, Email widget, Facebook widget, System utilities, Power buttons and much more.

You can do many things from sending a tweet from the Twitter widget, updating your Facebook status to opening and reading email directly from the notifications. There’s also small little feature that lets you collapse a list of notifications. For example, you can collapse a list of 17 emails so that you’ll have space to see the rest of the notifications. Check out the complete demonstration by the developers after the break.

This tweak is not yet available on Cydia, but they have promised us that it will be in the coming week. So what do you think of this jailbreak tweak. I believe it’s a must have iOS 5 jailbreak tweak and this should give you enough reason to perform that jailbreak. We will update this post when the tweak goes live on Cydia.

SpyPhoto for iOS Takes Photos Without Anyone Knowing

You know those times, when you’re in a situation where you badly want to take a picture but can’t because it’s not allowed or because your camera will make a noise. Well, now you can accomplish such secret missions using your iOS device and become a successfully spy or even get recruited by the FIA. Here’s a new jailbreak app for iOS devices called SpyPhoto, that lets you take pictures without anyone knowing about it and over any running app. You don’t even have to launch the camera app to get this done. Pretty cool right?

There’s one drawback, however, as sometimes the images may not be saved to your photo album. But, the developer is working on it and the updated version should be out pretty soon. For now, let’s talk about this tweaks features and where to get it from.

SpyPhoto is a cydia app, hence requiring a jailbroken iOS device, so if you’re device is not jailbroken, then you should probably get to it. That said, you’ll need to navigate to the BigBoss repo or look for recent changes in Cydia to find this tweak. Let’s talk about it’s features then. This tweak lets you take photos using finger gestures such as double tap the status bar etc. It basically uses the Activator function to get that done.

You not only have the choice to choose either the front or back camera, but also to use it over any app. For example, if you’re sitting with a Mafia and he’s in disguise, then you can start playing a game and use the gesture to get his photo taken, without anyone noticing. Go to the cops and you’ll be rewarded well, I hope. Two different gestures can be set for both the back and the front camera. Cool features don’t you think? Watch the app in action after the break.

Oh, last, but not the least. SpyPhoto is a paid cydia tweak and costs $1.50, which I believe is pretty good. So are you getting this app? Spy anyone?

RedSn0w to Get A Major Update, Jailbreak Without IPSW

Redsn0w, the most famous jailbreaking tool on planet Earth is about to get a huge huge huge update that’s going to make it even easier to jailbreak an iDevice. Earlier, if you had to tether boot your iPhone, you’d have to point Redsn0w to the respective iOS firmware it’s running on to successfully boot, same case with the new iOS firmwares. The new firmwares are even difficult to jailbreak and hence require you to point it to a previous firmware to identify and jailbreak.

iPhone developer, MuscleNerd, made an announcement today that Redsn0w will soon be getting a huge update, which will make jailbreaking real simple and provide more/advanced options.

So what is it that the new Redsn0w do? Well, for starters, it’ll automatically download everything that is required for a successful jailbreak. It’ll browse the internet and find what jailbreak is available for your iDevice, then download the required files and perform the jailbreak. You don’t have to do anything, but hit the GO!! button.

Of course there’s no Go!! button, although there are many new and useful buttons that you can use. Check out the screenshots that MuscleNerd posted, below.

Look at all those new buttons and options. Wonderful don’t you think? This is going to be a treat for any new jailbreaker. It’s all laid out in a simple manner, just connect your iDevice to the computer and hit the Jailbreak button.

According to MuscleNerd, this update could be out as soon as next week. So don’t worry, we’ll update you as soon as it goes live, just to help all those budding jailbreakers.

First Jailbreak Tweak for iOS 5 UISettings Widget Released

Apple may have brought an end to the life of a lot of older jailbreak tweaks by introducing new features in iOS 5 but that is not going to stop the jailbreak community from creating more useful jailbreak tweaks. UISettings widget for the Notification Center is the first jailbreak tweak released for iOS 5. Instructions on how to install and a review after the break.

UISettings can be described as an alternative form of SBSettings which was created to give users quick access to certain iPhone settings. Just like SBSettings UISettings can be launched anywhere in iOS 5 without the need to quit current app and going to Settings application.

UISettings has been available for iOS 4 too where it works via the multitasking bar. The developer has now ported it to the notifications center in iOS 5 which can be pulled down by swiping one finger from top to bottom on the iPhone screen.

Here’s a list of the toggles and quick settings available in UISettings:

  • Respring
  • Wifi
  • Airplane
  • Bluetooth
  • Brightness
  • Volume
  • Power OFF
  • Reboot
  • Safe Mode

The last option Safe Mode doesnt work on iOS 5 yet, but the rest all do. I do not really like the icons and the colors in particular but the tool itself is pretty handy. Thankfully, just like SBSettings themes there will be more themes for UISettings too. In fact iRetina++ theme is just about to be released and looks much better than the orginal theme.

Here’s the preview recently tweeted by @iSurenix,

How to Install UISettings Widget in iOS 5:

You’ll obviously first need to install iOS 5 beta and then jailbreak iOS 5.0 with Redsn0w to get Cydia. Once Cydia is installed add the UISettings repo http://qwertyoruiop.com/beta and then search for UISettings or just tap on the new repo you just added.

Respring your iPhone after install and check it out by pulling down the Notifications Center. To disable or enable these options you’ll need to hold them for about 3 seconds.

Why Jailbreaking is Useful? Jay Freeman a.k.a Saurik Answers

Recently at a Mobile Connections Conference, Mr. Jay Freeman, famously known as Saurik, the man who gave us Cydia and the world of free apps and iOS customization, spoke about Jailbreaking iPhone, iTouch and iPad and why it’s useful.

Jailbreaking

Jailbreaking is the art of cracking your iOS device and giving it access to the App Store alternative Cydia and a huge collection of apps, themes, wallpapers and much more. It’s not done by most people, and if you believe it or not, only 8.5% of iOS owners go ahead and actually get their iPhones, iPod Touch and iPad jailbroken. For geeks like us, it is of great importance, because a gadget to us is more than what it is to normal people. The first thing that I did when I received my iPhone 4, well the first thing was unbox it, and then connect it to the PC and jailbroke it.

Jailbreaking iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad according to some people will stop you from using the App Store for downloads….that is not true. I use the App Store every now and then, I update my apps using the App Store, and so on. Jay Freeman a.k.a Saurik also explains in the video below why Jailbreaking is important and useful according to him. The video is very informative and you can also see how the creator of Cydia has customized his iPhone 4.

You may have incurred from the video about all the cool and useful things that can be done once  you jailbreak iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.  Saurik recommends the best tool for jailbreaking is RedSnow!

Some people also believe that once you jailbreak iPhone or other iOS devices, it effects the warranty and violates the agreement with Apple. That again is not true, because once you buy an iPhone, it is your decision what you do with it. Also, do read Apple’s agreements carefully, because if you don’t you might just end up in some strange Apple experiment.

Have you jailbroken your iOS device? Tell us what you like the most about a jailbroken iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
