Steve Jobs Dies at 56: 1955-2011

2011 was a good year for Apple. They launched a few new products and became the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer. But at the same time, Steve Jobs was having a rough 2011 in terms of his health. He was not regular to Apple from January and recently, he stepped down from the post of Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Apple, naming Tim Cook as the new one because of his health.

On 5th October 2011, Wednesday, just one day after the launch of Apple iPhone 4S, Steve Jobs died in Palo Alto in California. When he died he was surrounded by his wife and family.

Apple announced the death of Steve Jobs raising silence and sadness in the world. Apple changed their homepage, giving tribute to Steve Jobs. The co-founder of Apple, who gave you iPhone, iPad, iPod has finally ended his life. Here is a famous quote from the man.

“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart. … Stay hungry. Stay foolish”

Steve Jobs was the co-founder of Apple with Steve Wozniak. They founded the company in 1974. They invented a few PCs which gave success to Apple. In 1985, he was fired from the company. Apple witness a fall in their numbers and in 1997, he was brought back. Later that year, he was made the CEO of Apple. The launch of iPhone in 2007, gave the company a real boost and Steve Jobs never looked behind after that. Success never stopped for Apple but Steve Jobs was having some problems with his health. On 17th January 2011, he gave a leave because of his bad health condition. On 24th August 2011, he retired as CEO of Apple and finally on 5th October 2011, he died due to his health.

Sadness may not stop for days. Steve Jobs was a man who revolutionized the tech world. For me, since I came to know about the tech world, iPhone or any Apple gadget has been a dream for me. Even though, I haven’t got one yet, I will very soon get it.

Spotify Launches New Services to take on iTunes

Spotify, the company which offers music streaming service has announced the launch of its latest offering, with a new iPod management functionality. The new service from Spotify offers users to sync all their music as well as buy MP3s through their revamped download service. The service can also be used on their mobile phones with the help of the Spotify Mobile app for iOS and Android, which will now allow its users to sync wirelessly with their favourite  MP3 playlists from their PC.

  • The app allows you to connect your iPod to your computer via your USB cable which will then appear in the new ‘Devices’ section of your Spotify sidebar to sync all the MP3s in your Spotify playlists to your iPod
  • The Spotify iPhone & Android apps will let you sync wirelessly with your MP3 playlists in Spotify from your computer, by addind your phone to the ‘Devices’ section.
  • Spotify’s MP3 download service introduces a new range of MP3 bundles, which will now be available at competitive prices, starting from 50p per song, with 10 tracks for £7.99/€9.99 (80p/€1 a track), 15 tracks for £9.99/€12.99 (67p/€0.87 /track), 40 tracks for £25/€30 (63p/€0.75) or 100 tracks for £50/€60 (50p/€0.60).

The new service is compatible with iPod Classic, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPod, which will also allow its users to sync MP3 content from Spotify Playlists to any iPod without the need of iTunes.

The new service will soon be available all across the world, but currently is only available in selected European countries.

Apple iPod Classic May Get 220 GB of Storage

Many of us may not be fond of the Apple iPod Classic, mainly because it’s old, bulky and out of fashion. It’s not the same idea with people who have a huge collection of music and like to carry it around with them. The iPod Touch won’t help you out then, with all that touchscreen magic there is not much storage space. I myself have around a 100gig of music and iPod Touch wouldn’t be my first choice.

That’s where the iPod Classic steps in with it’s marvelous storage capacity of 120GB and 160GB which would surely be very useful for geeks who like to carry a lot more music, videos and other data wherever they go. And even though the iPod Classic is quite old now and hasn’t been updating since a long time, Apple hasn’t stopped it’s production and still sells it.

This could all change with the all new Toshiba hard drives that offer storage capacities of up to 220GB in the same 1.8 inch 5mm form factor the iPod Classic uses. The new Toshiba MK series of hard drives come in 160GB, 200GB and 220GB and according to a report by Hardmac, Apple may soon update the iPod Classic line up with these hard drives.

Imagine the iPod Classic, the big boy of all the iPods, to be packing another 60GB more, that’s like carrying half of a normal home computers storage around in your pocket. If Apple decides to update the current line-up of the Classic with the Toshiba 220GB Hard Drives then I’m definitely all game for getting myself a brand new iPod Classic.

Microsoft Releases OneNote Mobile App for iOS

Microsoft has just released a new version or rather a new OS version of their famous and easy to use note taking application called OneNote for Apple’s iOS devices. Certainly Microsoft is trying to get a share in Apple’s mobile market leadership with the help of this new release.

OneNote mobile is a very useful application that can be used by anyone and has been around for a very long time bringing along some new features with the new iOS release.

Now you’ll be able to use this amazing little tool on your iPhone and other iOS devices and make the task of taking any kinds of notes, including audio, video and images, pretty easy. The Microsoft OneNote is a tool that can be used on the iOS devices, and the application comes with a modified keyboard for Apple devices, and also there is the ability to save information(upload) to the Windows SkyDrive, a cloud service.

You can now download this tool from the Apple Store for free, but soon enough Microsoft will be charging for the OneNote App. The App is compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch, and the iPad and requires iOS 4.2 and later.

How to Manually Unlock iPod Nano or Classic Without Password

The iPod Nano and iPod Classic can be locked with a 4 digit numeric password. A lot of times we forget this password or some kid accidentally locks the iPod without noticing the password. Here’s a quick solution to manually unlock iPod without password. You will not lose any music or other media files.

If you have access to the computer with which the iPod was synced, then you can just connect the iPod to that computer and click on Sync to remove the iPod’s Password. That’s all. After sync the iPod should be unlocked.

However, if you don’t have immediate access to that particular computer here’s an alternative solution which works on both windows and Mac OS X. This solution works on both iPod Nano and iPod Classic but not for iPod Touch.

Steps to Remove iPod’s Password:

Step 1: When you connect your iPod to any computer the disk should appear in My Computer(windows) or Finder(Mac). Proceed to next step if it does. Else launch iTunes and Select Enable Disk Use & Manually Manage Music and select Sync. This will not erase any files and can be done on any computer.

Step 2: Enable viewing Hidden files on your computer. If you don’t know how to check out these guides:

Now Open the iPod Disk in Finder/Explorer and goto iPod Control > Device and delete the file “_Locked” and eject iPod.

Voila! Your iPod should now be unlocked with all the music and photo files intact.

If it still doesn’t work just restart your iPod by pressing the Select and Center buttons until you see the Apple logo.

Don’t buy any professional software to unlock your iPod as all the apps out there use this same method. When you can do it yourself, why pay for it.
