Action Movie FX App : Add Stunning Video Effects in iPhone [ Review ]

Action Movie FX is yet another awesome application that one must have on their iOS device. If you like to shoot videos on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, but are bored because you can’t find anything interesting to shoot, then this is the app for you. This app brings some awesome Hollywood styled video effects to make what you’re shooting more interesting and funny.

Do you remember the amazing missile crash and tornado effects used in many of the Hollywood movies, well, this app does something similar without you needing to spend millions of dollars on it. Action Movie FX is a really fun app to have on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad and it will certainly make you and your friends laugh.

Action Movie FX App

The effects available in the app are so realistic that they blend in very well with the video that you shoot. You can choose from three free effects and download many others for a price. The whole process of adding effects to a video is easy as well and the app is very fast in adding the effects and processing it, specially if you’re using an iPhone 4S. Action Movie FX app is free to download and, like I said earlier, comes with three free effects namely Missile Attack, Car Smash and Demolition Rock.

How to use Action Movie FX app on iPhone

After downloading the app, launch it and tap the Go button to start filming your very own Action movie. Now, choose from any of the three effects that are given and start the process.

Action Movie FX effects

Shoot a short video, preferably of 10-30 seconds or you can even go longer if you’re filming some serious stuff for a real movie. After recording, choose where you want to add the effect. You can either add it somewhere in between or towards the end as that makes it more interesting and funny.

Action Movie FX timing

Click next and wait for the app to render the video. If your film is long and you’re using an iPod Touch or iPhone 3GS, then it’s going to take some time. Once it’s done, you can play the movie and see for yourself how it is. You can even edit it and change where the effect has to start and end, if you didn’t like the finished video.

Here is a sample video showing Movie FX app effect:

That’s it! Now, you can decide whether you want to share the amazing video that you just created with your friends on Facebook or via Email. The extra effects pack cost $0.99 each and are available as in-app purchases. Try the app out and tell us if you liked it. I’m sure you would because it is one very interesting app to have some fun.

This app is also available for Android phones and you can download Android version from here.

iPhone apps & Tools to Make Free iPhone Ringtone:

Ringtone maker:

Ringtone maker

This application supports unlimited number of ringtones, it features fade in and fade out effects and has very user friendly interface. Ringtone Maker is capable of recording any sounds with your iPhone microphone and making it as a ringtone. I tried this option and the quality wasn’t that good to be honest. <Download Ringtone Maker>

Myxer Ringtones:

Myxer Ringtones is another great application to easily create and customize ringtones. You can either create music ringtones from the music stored on your iPhone, or you can choose free ringtones from Myxer’s catalog. Catalog contains converted ringtones that were submitted by other members. This is really great feature and you can always check the ringtone in the catalog before converting it on your own. <Link: Myxer ringtones>

Ringtone Maker by Mobile 17:

Ringtone Maker Pro from Mobile17 helps you to make your own custom free ringtones and or choose from ringtones generated by other users. Unlike those other apps, Ringtones Maker has no editing restrictions (up to 40 seconds) and also is free. <Link>

Last but not least is iTunes. You probably have already heard from your friends that you can convert your favorite music tracks into ringtones with the help of iTunes. This simple tutorial will guide you through the whole process.

Melofania:

Melofania

Although all these ways are extremely easy to follow, I and many others prefer to convert their music into ringtones online. You don’t have to download or install anything, the magic happens straight in your favorite web browser. One of the fastest online ringtones conversion tools is Melofania.com. Ringtone creation process with Melofania is a piece of cake job. You simply upload your favorite track, cut and select the right song piece and the whole process does not take more than 5 minutes.

Audiko:

We have already talked about Audio.net and it not only let you upload audio but you can make iPhone ringtone using Youtube video. Something, I hardly recommend. You can also download created ringtones in .mp3 format.

Hopefully this article will help all iPhone owners to finally stop using those default ringtones Apple offers and convert your favorite music track into ringtone that will be supported for iPhone. Enjoy customizing your ringtones!

DisplayRecorder for iPhone Now Supports iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1

If you remember well, we had done a complete review of this amazing Cydia app in question. Display Recorder is a Cydia application for jailbroken iOS devices that can record iPhone screen. This app is currently the only perfect solution to record the screen on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. All others that are available are no more supported with the new iOS versions or don’t work at all.

record iphone screen

Ryan Petrich, the developer of this app just released an update that makes this app compatible with the latest iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1. Display Recorder v1.2.5 can perform many functions such as record iPhone screen, upload video to YouTube, record in landscape or portrait and more. You can control the recording with your custom shortcuts, such as the use of the volume up key to start recording and the home button to stop. The update version also has some new features such as:

● Increased maximum and default frame rate
● Improved timing accuracy
● Full support for recording in h.264 on iPhone 4 and iPad
● Fix file permissions on installation (to work around long standing PkgBackup bug)
● Support orientation and grayscale for h.264 encoding

If you’ve already purchased Display Recorder, then you can just head over to Cydia and upgrade to the latest version. In case you haven’t and are looking for an app for recording iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad screen, this is the best bet. You can purchase Display Recorder from the Cydia store for $4.99 and believe us when we say it’s worth the money.

To record iPhone screen means that you can review an app better, showing all the features and functionality with ease. However, you will need to jailbreak your iOS device in order to install this as this is only available for jailbroken iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Non-jailbroken devices will have to wait for such an awesome app.

Google Currents: Feed Reader App for Android and iOS

We recently reviewed the amazing magazine styled news reader app for iPhone called Flipboard. And now here’s a new one for both Android and iPhone and it’s by none other than Google. There are a lot of news reader apps out there, but there aren’t many that are fun to read. Google Currents, as this new app is called, has a magazine styled theme just like Flipboard. But, unlike the latter, this app is available both for Android devices and for iOS devices as well.

Google has no native feed reading app for any mobile device, but it’s Google Reader is quite famous and used by many on the internet. This is their first feed reader app for the iPhone and Android phones, but, it isn’t as great as it looks. Like all Google products, this one is quite buggy as well. The current version doesn’t load all the feeds from a Google Reader account after you sync with the app. Plus, it hasn’t got any interesting or different feature that sets it apart from other magazine styled apps.

When you fire up the app for the first time, you’ll be asked to log-in with your Google credentials. If you have Google reader, then it should automatically sync all the feeds with the app. But, since there’s a bug, it probably won’t. You can share the articles, as usual, with various social media websites and also on Instapaper, Pinboard etc.

Check out more on Google Currents over here. Also, watch the video after the break, to better understand how Google Currents can help you.

That’s pretty much everything that you can do with Google Currents. Read your favorite Google reader feeds on iPhone and Android devices.

Google Currents is available for download from the Android Market and the App Store. It’s also free. So, try it out now. Although, if you already happen to have a good RSS feed reader app installed, then it’s alright to skip this app entirely.

Flipboard for iPhone: App Review

The very famous and widely used feed reader app for the Apple iPad, Flipboard, has now landed on the iPhone. If you’ve never heard of this app, then you should read our review of the iPad version here. Flipboard for iPhone is a magnificent magazine themed feed reader app that makes reading news articles much more interesting and fun.

It places all the news articles from various websites and feeds in a magazine styled snippet format, with all the news jumbled and most of them featuring an image. It’s really a work of art, and makes you want to read or just glance through all the pages whatsoever. A must have app for a Blogger or a reader.

Flipboard for iPhone Features

Flipboard for iPhone is just as great and does a great job in presenting news, even though the screen size is smaller than the iPad. It’s also one of the important apps to have on your iPhone if you like to keep yourself updated with the latest news and stories.

Cover Stories

flipboard for iphone

This is currently only available on the iPhone and the iPad version will be getting it soon. Cover stories is a really nice feature that changes every time you open the app, like live tiles in Windows Phone 7. It’s also smart and automatically shows new and fresh stories on the first page depending on what you like to read.

Social Stories

Like all the other feed reader app out there, this one too can connect to almost all the social networking websites. However, this is very different from the other feed reader apps. The way this app showcases all the stories, status updates, tweets, photos from places like Facebook, Twitter, Google Reader, Tumblr, Instagram etc is really cool. You can like photos, post tweets, comment etc directly from the app too.

Sharing

After you read a story or news article, it can be shared on all your linked social accounts like Facebook, Email, Twitter etc and can also be stored to read later. It’s all integrated to one great app and everything can be viewed with just a flick of your thumb. You can directly retweet an article too, if your Twitter account is linked that is. Commenting on an article is also possible, because sharing your opinion is a good thing. You can also sync all your content from the iPad app and have all the blogs and feeds on the iPhone app.
Flipboard team have taken special care to filter sexual, explicit or any other content nudity in Flipboard feeds. You can also report directly as flag inappropriate.

Overall, its a really good app to download and use on your iPhone, a must have app for bloggers. If you have an iPhone, then you most definitely should download this app, even if all you want to do is check your Facebook updates. Download Flipboard for iPhone from the App Store and yes it’s still free.

Gmail App for iPhone and iPad [Update]

It is official folks! Google has indeed launched a native Gmail app for iOS devices, as it was stated by TechCrunch writer M.G Siegler yesterday. The official Gmail app for iPhone and iPad is now live on the App Store and you can download it for free. iOS users had all the other native Google apps, but the one thing that was missing from the list was this and now it’s finally here.

The Gmail App, according to me, has been better developed than the Google + app and it works and looks great while showing your unread emails and such. As soon as I fired up the app, there popped an error message stating “no valid aps-environment entitlement string found”, which did not harm me in any way, but did startle me for like a second or two. Google decided to stick with the black and white appeal for this app too, and it works quite well, expect for the part where I couldn’t really notice the buttons.

It’s fast, easy to navigate around, looks good and is really smooth, although I do believe that the stock iOS mail app is simpler. It has push notifications and alerts, specifically designed for iOS 5. You can attach photos directly while writing an email, by using the attach button, a feature that wasn’t available in the stock iOS mail app. The view of this app is better on the iPad, with the ability to see all your emails and navigate all on one page, you can also read emails in threaded view. Pull down to refresh is also something new in the Gmail App for iPhone and iPad. Check out some screenshots below:

The Gmail app then, is certainly better than the stock app on your iOS device, but would you really replace the latter? The Gmail app can only show your Gmail inbox, whereas the Mail app in iOS can be configured to deliver email from various services. But, as a Gmail only app this is certainly a must have.

Download Gmail App for iPhone and iPad.

UPDATE: If you just tried to download and try this app, you must’ve been greeted with an error saying that it cannot be found in the App Store. Well, apparently, after some time of use, the Gmail App started giving some problems, such as the push notifications don’t work, there’s no option for multiple logins etc. Hence, Google has removed it from the App Store and soon will replace it with a better working app.

Adobe PDF Reader for iOS Released

Everybody knows about the Apple-Adobe relationship, it’s not one of those joyous relationships that one would like to be in. Apple doesn’t really like Adobe for the fact that their Flash Players are very vulnerable to malwares and attacks of that sort. That didn’t, however, stop Adobe from tailoring some nice looking apps for Apple’s iOS devices.

We already have the Adobe Photoshop Express and the Photoshop Touch Apps for iPhone and iPad respectively, and now they’ve also included the much needed Adobe PDF Reader. Yes, that’s right. Adobe released their very useful and famous PDF Reader application for iOS, that can open e-books, portfolios, encrypted pdf files and is also free. This is not the first PDF related app that Adobe has released for iOS devices, prior to this they had also released a CreatePDF app that can create PDF files from regular documents.

Adobe Reader is the free global standard for reliably viewing and sharing PDF documents across platfoms and devices. Easily and efficiently access the widest range of PDF file types—including PDF Portfolios, password-protected PDF documents and Adobe LiveCycle rights-managed PDF files. Now available for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, Adobe Reader offers fast, high-quality interaction with PDF.

The Adobe Reader app on the iPhone works perfectly. Once you fire it up, it’ll quickly take you through a Getting Started pdf file, which tells you how to use the app. There’s a scroll bar on the bottom, that acts as a way to skim through pages, you can pinch-to-zoom, select and copy text, choose between continues, single page and automatic views and search for text in the pdf.

So, how do you add files to Adobe Reader? Well, whenever you come across any file on your iOS device that has the ‘Open in’ option, it’ll automatically be added to the reader. That’s it. We’ve also wrote about 5 PDF Reader Applications for iPhone other than this. Do check them out too.

MyTunes: Audio Enhancer for iPhone and iPod Touch

The newly launched iPhone 4S has better audio quality and louder speakers than the iPhone 4, which was a much needed improvement. The iPhone 4 speaker isn’t loud compared to other phones in the market and that is not a good thing. It’s only obvious that you’ll now try to look for ways to make your iPhone 4 sound as loud as the iPhone 4S. Well, there’s an App for that.

MyTunes is a free iOS app that works best with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and 3rd/4th gen iPod Touch and helps make your music sound better. If you thought that this app could change the overall sound quality and volume of your device, you are mistaken. And, since this an app that’s still under development, don’t be alarmed when it suddenly crashes, lags or doesn’t open at all. I’ve experienced few bugs myself, but the overall experience certainly makes this app worth the download.

There’s something else that’ll make you want to download this app, it’s developed by SRS Labs. I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of them, the guys who brought us the SRS WOW audio enhancer for Windows. They already have a hardware audio dongle for the iPhone and iPod Touch that enhances and increases the volume of your device. But, this is another achievement for the team as it’s one of the very first audio enhancer app for the iPhone that actually does improve sound quality and is pretty close to the hardware dongle. Check out some screenshots from the app below;

The built in Equalizer works quite well and delivers good quality music to your ears. You can select various presets or create your own custom ones.

The Player looks like this, I know it’s not the best looking, but it does the job. You can select the SRS button to get access to other settings like turning on the WOW effect, Equalizer, Normalize Audio etc. To get access to all the settings and features, you’ll have to make an in-app purchase of $4.99. But, you can test all the features for ten minutes before you make the purchase.

This app doesn’t let you play videos, only regular MP3 or AAC tracks will work properly. Also, this app isn’t intended for iPhone 3G or iPad, though an iPad specific app is under development. You can try this app for free and let us know how it worked for you.

Download MyTunes by SRS from the App Store.
