Shazam Player for iOS is a Better Music Player App [Review]

shazam player

If you love listening to music on your iOS device then you must’ve realized by now that the app doesn’t have much to offer. It does, however, let you change songs, create playlists, forward, rewind, pause, shuffle and basic stuff like that. But, what if you were looking for an app that does more than that. An app that has much more features and also some unique ones that the stock music app doesn’t. I’m sure you must’ve heard of Shazam music recognition app for iOS and Android. Have you also heard of Shazam Player?

Shazam Player is a better music app for your iOS device, mainly because it lets you do more and know more about your music than the normal app. The most attractive features of this app would be the ability to get information on the track and the artist that you’re listening to, play YouTube videos and get instant lyrics of songs displayed to you as the song plays.

Shazam Player Features:

The most important feature that made me download and use this app from day was, is LyricPlay. You can use this app to perform karaoke shows as it displays the lyrics in sync with the song. And the whole app goes full screen, with only the lyrics shown on the display. Like to sing along to your favorite tunes? This is the app! The app scans your entire library and matches songs that have LyricsPlay enabled. There aren’t currently a lot of them, but there are enough (about 30,000) to keep you happy and help you learn the lyrics of your favorite song.

Shazam player LyricPlay

There are lists available for the top tracks available with LyricPlay and you can even buy tracks by directly going to iTunes via the app. You can watch YouTube videos of any track in the playlist, share what you’re listening to on Facebook or Twitter and get information on the song and the band/artist. And, if you want to know where the band/artist is playing currently, you can get tour dates and other information right within this app.

Shazam player features

Shazam player screen

Since this app was only recently released, the LyricPlay feature hasn’t been perfected yet and you may face unsynced lyric display. The developers are currently working on improving the app and fix such issues as fast as they can. Shazam Player is currently only available for iOS and is available for free in the App Store.

Do you know more such apps like Shazam player which shows lyrics along with song on iPhone or iPad?

Open ZIP files on iPhone and iPad with WinZip App [Review]

open zip files on iPhoneThe best way to compress large files for sending as attachments in emails or uploading on a website, is via the use of WinZip, 7Zip and similar software. If you’re looking for a way to send those high resolution pictures to a friend and don’t want to burden him and yourself with large file size, then you should definitely use a compressor. WinZip has released a new app which will let you open zip files on iPhone, iPad or any other compatible iOS device.

WinZip for iDevices is not as much as an app as an extension, because it only lets you open .zip attachments in emails or on web pages. iOS devices have always lacked support for .zip files, while there have been many apps for viewing other formats such as PDF, DOC etc. So, the ability to view and open zip files is not native in iOS. That and many other formats can now be viewed with the help of WinZip iPhone app. When you normally try to open a zip attachment in the Email app or on any webpage, it gives an error and says the attachment cannot be opened.

How to Open Zip Files on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad

With the WinZip iPhone app, things get a lot easier. You can not only open a zip attachment, but also view various different file formats within it. Here’s the complete list of file formats that you can view with the WinZip iPhone app:

  • Word documents (.doc, .docx)
  • Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx)
  • PowerPoint presentations (.ppt, .pptx)
  • PDF files (.pdf)
  • Photos and images (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .bmp, .gif, .tif, .tiff)
  • Text files (.txt)
  • Rich Text Format (.rtf)
  • Keynote (.key)
  • Numbers (.numbers)
  • Web files (.htm, .html, .jsp)
  • Pages (.pages)

That’s a lot of formats for one app right? And you can just directly open the attachment from the email app or a web page and view it’s content on the WinZip app.

WinZip open In

Winzip app

When opening an email attachment that’s in the zip format, it’ll give you the Open In option. Select Winzip when prompted and the app will be launched automatically. There’s no other way to view zip files in WinZip currently, as you cannot add files directly from the app. You can download it from the App Store for free and it’s definitely a worth download. Something that everyone who wants to open zip files on iOS devices should have. Give it a shot and tell us how you like it.

SpeedUpTV for iPhone App review: iOS Multimedia Gamechanger

SpeedUpTV, from mix1009, is likely to be the video player and multimedia file manager on every iPhone very soon. This full-featured video player does everything iOS users wish the native app did and so very much more.

SpeedUpTV gives users complete control over their multimedia experience on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.  Its video player features are its strongest draw, but the developers of this application went above and beyond to offer users many more value-added features.  The app allows users to watch videos at a variety of speeds, from .05x to 2.0X original speed.  In addition, it functions as a viewer for multiple file types, supporting most image files, and has a built-in folder management system which includes security features like password protection.

SpeedUpTV

SpeedUpTV App review:

The controls are simple, intuitive, and elegantly designed for a great user experience.  The video player controls are similar to those of the native app, giving users a feeling of immediate familiarity despite the many added features and increased functionality.

SpeedUpTV completely replaces the need to use the native app, and makes organizing and viewing other file types a breeze.  One of the multitude of awesome add-ons is the ability to transfer files using the USB cord.  I would like to see this app support some sort of wireless sync, though I would use the USB transfer more—it would just be the icing on the cake for this already fantastic application.  After having the application and using it for a while, I found that the number of features included in the video player alone were even more practical than I’d first imagined.  Scene browsing and slo-mo were perfect for educational videos; the fast forward modes were great for speeding through parts of recorded lectures I wanted to quickly review.  It’s an excellent app for students, and the entertainment functionality should be obvious for anyone who uses their iOS device for watching vids for fun.

The graphics are perfect for a utility like this—non-intrusive and serving the function of the app while providing an aesthetically appealing format.  Playback is excellent, and there’s an added bonus built in with the mult-speed option—the tone of the audio doesn’t get distorted at faster and slower speeds.  This may not seem like much, but when you don’t have to listen to the dull roar of slo-mo audio or the Chipmunks-like squeak of sped up voices, you realize what a great addition this really is.

SpeedUpTV is a new app and if it does well (and it will, offering all this for only $2.99) it’s only going to get better.  It requires iOS 4.0 or later, so if you’re rocking the right device, check out SpeedUpTV app.

ShoutFlow: A Location-based Social Networking App for your iPhone

Social networking services have undoubtedly change the way we use internet these days, social networking hubs like Facebook or Twitter have become sort of addictions. Almost every person no matter which age group he/she belongs to prefer staying in touch with their family or friends or professional accomplices via Facebook or Twitter.

Though Facebook offers features using which users can look around to make new friends with people they don’t know but this feature is quite limited and not so versatile. Well today I will be introducing an app for iPhone users that will very much solve this problem by letting users discover like-minded people around them with just a click. Here is a brief review of this app.

ShoutFlow App for iOS

shoutflow app

Well ShoutFlow is a perfect app for social networking lovers who are always eager to make new friends. The app simply enable users to discover people that are near their present location, it not helps in discovering people rather it also enable users to connect with those people after getting a confirmation from both the parties.

The app has a built-in integration for Facebook, meaning that users don’t require a new account to login to ShoutFlow. I think this is a huge plus because services of this kind normally ask users to create a separate account. The app even before logging in shows the people who match your liking with respect to geographical location. You can view profile of any person by just logging in via your Facebook account within the app’s interface.

ShoutFlow User Interface & Features

image

Just like Facebook, ShoutFlow on its homescreen asks users “Would You Hangout with this Person?” . Give a reply of YES and the app will wait for the consent of other party. There is a Near Me button too, click on that and the app will return names of people that are near you, having interests similar to you.

Another cool feature is Shoutout, it enable users to tell their friends and family about discoveries made on ShoutFlow app. Users can also invite their Facebook friends to use this app and discover people having similar tastes and activities.

So guys if you are not at all satisfied with your current social networking activity, then ShoutFlow is the right kind of app for you. It is available as a free download from iTunes app store.

TinyChat FB brings 12 Person Facebook Video Chat to iOS devices

It was only a few days back that Facebook announced the Facebook Messenger app for iOS and Android devices. It’s pretty great, but it lacks video chat, which we all wish was included with the app. It has been said that they will be launching Video chat on both iOS and Android devices pretty soon. It’s only a matter of time.

tinychat fbHowever, if you want to be able to video chat with your friends on Facebook, probably with more than one friend, then you should give TinyChat FB a try. I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of Tiny Chat, a free web based video chatting service. Now there’s an app for iOS devices that can be used to make video calls with your Facebook friends and that too about 12 of them, at the same time. Group video calling comes to Facebook, but unofficially.

A really nice app then, don’t you think? Well, it is a bit confusing at first, but once you’ve figured out everything, it’s as easy as sending a video chat invite on Facebook. After you’ve installed the app, you’ll need to sign in with your id and give access to your profile. Then, select up to 12 friends to group video chat with and it’ll invite all those friends with a Message saying You have been invited for a video chat with so and so and a link directs you to the TinyChat web service.

And yes, you don’t need to have anything installed on your computer, other than a microphone and webcam and some Adobe flash capable browser. Check out this nicely tailored video made for TinyChat FB after the break.

So, once you’ve got everything set up, the app works really well on iPhone 4, iPad 2 and the iPod Touch. If you happen to have a slow internet connection, then you should probably not try this. Did I mention that this is a free app?

Yes, you can download TinyChat FB for free from the App Store right away and enjoy free group video chat with your Facebook friends.

LockLauncher: Launch Apps from your iPhone Lockscreen

There are times when you wanted to access an app on your iPhone and were delayed thanks to the lockscreen. Yeah, I love using Slide to Unlock, but sometimes it just makes me look bad. Suppose you’re having a race with an Android buddy to get to an App and see who opens it first, well, imagine how you’d feel if you lost. LockLauncher is an iPhone application, available in Cydia, that creates shortcuts to apps and places them right on your Lockscreen. Thus, you won’t have to slide to get to the app.

locklauncher

However, there is a problem here! You see, if there are apps on the lockscreen that anyone can access, then what’s the point of locking the screen?

This is where LockLauncher starts to get better, as it has a really cool way of accessing the apps placed on your lockscreen. Yet, when you click an app placed there, it won’t open right away. You will have to use the Slide to Unlock and the app will directly open, or rather it’ll already be open the moment you unlock. This will actually be of great help if you don’t want anyone to open the apps directly. That’s not the best part!

You can also launch the apps in a sequential order, meaning, select all the apps to open them back to back in order of selection. How cool is that? Select all the apps, unlock and you’ll be presented with the last selected app, press the home button and the next one and so on. Pretty useful if you’re a spontaneous person. Check out the video after the break by iDB to see LockLauncher in action.

This app can be downloaded from the Big Boss repo in Cydia for a very worth price of $0.99. You can place up to 5 apps and this will work best with iOS 4.2 and above. Do give it a try, and let us know what you think of it.

Record on the Move with Capture App for iPhone

There are millions of apps available on the Apple App Store, but not all are worthy of a review or even a mention. The one I’m about to review, is an app that must be there on your iOS device, be it an iPad or an iPhone. You’ve got video recording on your iOS device, then you must download and install this app. Capture App for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch is a very very very handy and useful application that places an icon on your homescreen, which when launched starts recording a video right away.

Now you’re probably thinking, there won’t be any settings or so for the app, well, you’re wrong. What do you need along with your iPhone camera? A flash button? Touch to focus probably? That’s all there! Capture app is not about any fancy settings or so, it’s about simplicity. The reason why You will probably want to download it right away is in the simplicity of this application.

After installation, you get a button on your Homescreen that says Capture. The first time you open this application, you’ll be greeted with a message saying “From now on when you launch Capture, it will start recording automatically.” Along with that, it will also tell you how to stop recording. This is the best part of this application. Normally you’d have to hit a stop button or something, but Capture lets you directly save the video to your Camera roll by pressing the Home button, which also exits the app. As simple as that.

Now, any time you want to record something that you find interesting when you’re on the move, just launch Capture and you should begin right away. Sometimes its better to be faster than carry a really expensive camera that needs at least a minute to set-up. Capture has been one of the best iPhone apps that I’ve come across in weeks, and I’d really recommend you to get it now.

Capture App for iOS is not Free, it’ll cost you $0.99 and can be downloaded from the App Store.

QuickGoogle: Google Search Made Faster [Cydia]

There are some applications out there that you have to have on your iPhone in case you’re a person who loves Google. Even if you’re not, you’ll probably require the expertise of Google search when you’re in a tough situation. Imagine being able to do that by just giving your iPhone a shake, searching Google in an instant. QuickGoogle for iOS devices is one such app that can open a Google Search box at any instant, in any app by using any of the given activators.

QuickGoogle-Cydia<Image Credit>

Since, QuickGoogle is an Activator function, it doesn’t really have any icon as such and pops up whenever you want it to. For example, you’re playing some game and you’re friend suddenly wants to know the capitol of some strange state. Using QuickGoogle you can assign any gesture such as the shaking of your iOS device, pressing the Home button 4 times or something else, which in turn will bring the Google Search box right over the game. When you input your search terms and hit enter, it’ll open up Safari and get your right over to the capitol name.

Day saved, you’re still the genius, and all this while playing Angry Birds. Watch the demonstration video after the break:

At the moment, the developer has decided to keep it real simple and hasn’t added any fancy image search or other search options. I really find this very useful, because sometimes it’s better you know a shortcut. A simple tweak and a free one too, QuickGoogle is currently available in the Cydia Store under the BigBoss Repo. You could also do a Cydia-wide search to find and install this.Do install this and let us of how much help has this been to you.

Do you know of any other such simple Cydia applications that actually help a lot?
