Sense 3.5 for HTC Desire HD, Desire S and Evo 4G

Android 2.3.4 was released a while ago, but not for all Android phones. It was first released for the Samsung Nexus S , the Nexus One and then was distributed to a few others. However, because of the complete code being open source, developers started developing Custom ROMs for devices that were not given this update. Android 2.3.4 brings some new features such as Google Talk Video Chat. That’s one of the main reasons why people want to try this build and also for other bug fixes.

Since then, Android 2.3.5 has also been released and like it’s previous update, it wasn’t rolled out to all the phones. The only way to try out these latest builds were to root your Android phone and then install a custom ROM such as CyanogenMod.

Android 2.3.4 also came with Sense 3.5 on the HTC Bliss, which was released recently. It’s beautiful, we all have to admit, and has paved a path to all the latest home screen widgets and customization’s. It was leaked last month along with the Bliss and it showed some new improvements in the UI, such as  two dedicated buttons to the Menu and Dialer just below the enlarged weather app. Sense 3.5 was also made to run on mid range HTC phones, as opposed to normally being made  for high-end smartphones. Check out the screenshots after the break.

No worries you HTC owners, specially if you happen to have the Desire HD/S or Evo 4G. All three of these HTC phones have been introduced to Sense 3.5 by some special geeks over at XDA developers. Like always. If you’re not afraid of flashing your phone, then you should certainly give it a try.

You can visit the thread over at XDA developers and try this new version of Sense out. It should soon be available for other HTC phones as well. We’ll keep you updated.

Do you prefer the Sense UI or the Windows Phone 7 Metro UI?

Facebook Dedicated Phones from INQ and HTC

There have been lot of rumors on the development of a certain Facebook branded phone, but were all denied by Facebook stating that there won’t be any such phones. What they actually meant to say was, that there won’t be any phones carrying the brand Facebook, but other phones from companies that would be having built in one-touch Facebook access buttons. You must be a bit confused now, so let me explain to what’s actually going on.

Two mobile companies, INQ and HTC have launched phones that seem to be the first-ever Facebook Phones with one-touch access to everything Facebook and features directly accessible from the Home screen. INQ launched two such devices known as Cloud Touch and Cloud Q, whereas HTC’s new Facebook based phones are known as Salsa and ChaCha. All of these phones run on the Android OS.

INQ Cloud Touch and Cloud Q :

Both of these phones, the Cloud Touch and the Cloud Q look exactly the same and have the same features, but the Cloud Q has a QWERTY Keyboard. They run on Android 2.2 and other features include a 5 megapixel camera auto-focus camera, 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen and all the Facebook related applications on it’s home screen. So basically, all of Facebook’s features such as News feed, places, friends, messages and everything else is your home screen. Both of these devices will be hitting stores some time in April and there is no information about the pricing.

HTC Salsa and ChaCha :

The HTC phones Salsa and ChaCha sound like some really flashy devices, but aren’t. What’s so special about these handsets? Both, Salsa and ChaCha, have a dedicated hardware button to access Facebook, but HTC hasn’t tagged these phones as “Facebook Phones”. The Salsa which is a full touchscreen phone features a 3.4 inch, 480 x 320 display, a 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and 512MB of RAM and ROM. The ChaCha carries the same processor, camera, RAM and ROM, but instead has a 2.6 inch screen with a QWERTY keyboard. Both these phones will be running on Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 with HTC’s flagship Sense UI. And that Facebook Key, well it does wonders!!

The Facebook button on HTC ChaCha and HTC Salsa is context-aware, gently pulsing with light whenever there is an opportunity to share content or updates through Facebook. With a single press of the button, you can update your status, upload a photo, share a Website, post what song you are listening to, ‘check in’ to a location and more. For example, you can take a photograph of friends on your phone and upload it instantly to Facebook by simply pressing the button. Or let your friends know what song you’re listening to by pressing the button while listening to music on the phone. The track is automatically identified and shared on Facebook. Also to be released in March 2011.
