New in iOS 5 Beta 3: Assistive Touch & AirPlay Mirroring for FaceTime

This is something customary, every time a new version of iOS is out, it is our duty to keep you well informed of the most promising and interesting new features they bring along. The latest release of iOS 5 adds two new major features, Assistive Touch and the ability to mirror FaceTime calls through AirPlay.

Apple released iOS 5 beta 3 few days ago and everyone started to spend time on it and set on to discover new features. Not many new features were discovered, but there were some minor bug fixes and some bug upheavals. All that aside, let’s discuss the two new and very interesting features.

Assistive Touch

A very cool feature that lets you accomplish tasks such as going back to the Homescreen, increase or decrease volume, mute or unmute, change screen orientations  and many other custom gestures. This feature is currently only available in beta 3 and can be activated by going to Settings>General>Accessibility>AssistiveTouch. This function was also there in the previous releases of iOS 5, but did not function. In the latest release it actually does a lot and makes using an iPhone even more easier.

As you can see in the image above, the Menu is launched using a gesture that you can create and lets you use all the basic and even not-so-basic tasks right from the touchscreen. Creating custom gestures is also super easy and assigning them as well. If you’re running on the latest beta of iOS 5, then you should try this feature now.

AirPlay FaceTime Mirroring

FaceTime calls can be mirrored on an iPad 2 using AirPlay, but this feature was never available for the iPhone 4. Now, it’s also possible to mirror FaceTime calls on a big screen and let more users enjoy that Family call. Normally this would require lot of cables and that is not something people enjoy, hence wireless FaceTime calls on a big screen is pretty awesome, don’t you think?

However, the quality might be compromised if you have a poor internet connection, since you’d be mirroring on a huge display. But, wireless is better!

Do try out these new features and let us know if you think they’re useful.

Apple Releases Two New ‘If You Don’t Have an iPhone’ Ads

Apple advertisements are always aimed at people who don’t have their products and mostly mocks them of all the features their phones don’t have. However, that’s not always true, but I’m not going to talk about it anyways because it would be in-appropriate. Apple has gone ahead and launched two new iPhone advertisements, featuring AirPlay and FaceTime and the usual ‘If you don’t have an iPhone’ phrase.

The following advertisements talk about the features AirPlay and FaceTime. Now, if you’re a regular iPhone user, you must be knowing what those two features are. AirPlay lets you wirelessly share pictures, videos and music on other Apple AirPlay compatible devices making things much easier to share when in a room full of people. AirPlay lets you share a photo on your TV so that more number of people can watch it, the same goes with videos. It will also let you stream music on other devices wirelessly so that everyone can listen to your favorite tune.

FaceTime, is Apple’s video calling service, which is free and works over Wi-Fi or 3G. Of course, it can only be conducted between two iOS users only. You can FaceTime another iPhone 4, iPad 2, iPod Touch or even a Mac. It’s a truly remarkable feature, that you can only experience if you have an iPhone 4. Watch the following ads after the break, in which the same voice with the same background music explains about the things you’re missing if you don’t have an iPhone.
