7 FTP Clients for Mac Users

FTP Clients for Mac

If you’re a Mac user, you know you have to do things a little differently than the people who use PCs. That’s okay, but it can lead to some confusion and annoyance – especially if you’re a new Mac user and having trouble getting what you need.

  • Want RealVNC? Check.
  • A great interface? Check.
  • Plenty of good programs? Check.
  • A fast processor that can help you do everything quickly and efficiently? Check.

In nutshell, Mac is an awesome OS, and like once you start using iPhone, you don’t look at other phones, similarly when you start using Mac, you will never look at windows or Linux. You should consider reading: 11 reasons why I love mac.

Now, if you are one of those who recently shifted to Mac and looking to get all the software’s installed on your system, there is already a list of must have Mac apps. Now, just to make work easier for Bloggers and webmasters, I’m creating a list of FTP clients for mac, which are not only easier to use but are one of the best in the app market.

Paid and free FTP Clients for mac

Transmit:

Transmit FTP Software

Transmit has been around for a while, but it’s still popular. Why? Because it works and it has everything that you would need. It has basic FTP as well as iDisk and Amazon S3 support. This FTP software offers many advance options like multi-connection transfers, Bandwidth limiting, Send SSh command, View security certificate, pane switcher and many more. <Check out transmit>

CyberDuck:

Cyber Duck Mac FTP

Cyberduck is another popular FTP client for Mac. It does everything that you need to do with it, and it’s got a decent interface. It won’t wow you with its looks, but it’s not complicated to use and it works. Also, if you are one of those coder who like to edit codes while using FTP, this software will let you edit them using your preferred editor. It also supports, Google cloud storage, rackspace cloud files. Also, if you are a Google drive user, you can manage the same with Cyber duck. What more could you ask for? <Link: Cyberduck>

Flow:

Best SFTP mac app

Flow is another one of the most popular FTP clients for people who use a Mac. All the required features are there, and the interface is fluid and smooth. That makes it easy to work with. The only downfall is that it can be a little unstable, leading to more crashes than some other programs have. One interesting feature about Flow is Droplets, which let you quickly upload files by dragging and dropping. Once file is uploaded, you can automatically copy the link to your clipboard. The only downside is this is a paid app and it cost $10, but again as we know quality always comes with a price tag. You can download Flow directly from Mac app store here.

FileZilla:

FileZilla works and will do what you need it to, but it’s a bit ugly and clunky. It doesn’t look like a lot of time was spent with the interface, especially when it came to making it look pretty so it would be inviting to use. You might want to give this one a pass based on that, although it does work properly if you don’t mind the look of it. Though, I use FIleZilla on my Windows OS, and love it, but for Mac, I suggest you to check out other alternative, which matches with elegant design of Mac.

Fetch:

Fetch client

Fetch looks much better, but that’s mostly because it’s a minimalist design. That keeps it from being cluttered, and you can make the size of the window large or small. It doesn’t have a second pane, though, or any extra support features for Amazon or iDisk. It’s strictly basic FTP, and costs a bit much for what you get. It supports Mac OS X 10.5  and above and is a paid tool again. Though, they offer 15 days trial which is good enough for you to get started.  Like flow, it also offer droplets for quick uploading and supports wide range of FTP servers.

Speed Download:

Speed Download is one of the most common download managers for Mac. Now it handles FTP, too, making it a good bargain and something that a lot of Mac users are already familiar with. Though, it’s a paid mac app and you need to purchase it for $25. Though, you can always buy in bulk for multiple macs and get it for cheaper price.

Yummy:

7) Yummy is another one of the mediocre offerings. It does what it should, but there’s no flair to it. They offer 30 days free trial or you can buy it for $29, I would rather spend $10 in buying Flow app. For the price, there are plenty of better options.

There you have it… seven FTP clients for Mac that you can use and enjoy. Find the one that works the best for you, and that’ll be one less worry that you have to deal with.

Dummies Guide to Facetime on iPhone and iPod Touch

facetime1.png Facetime is one of the best free feature of iOS device. The best thing about Facetime free video calling service is, it’s available on all Apple devices. Be it, Mac, iPhone, iPad or any other iOS device with camera on it. First time user might get confused with how to use FaceTime, and in this guide I will exactly be talking about the same. This guide will answer all your queries regarding Facetime on iOS devices, right from activation to making calls.

Facetime is one of the most talked about features of iPhone 4. Yesterday, we posted some pictures from our first impressions of Facetime on iPhone 4 as Harsh and I tried a Facetime conversation. We were totally amazed by the quality of audio and video.

Facetime is also very intuitive and easy to use. In fact we are Facetime Ninjas now, in less than thirty minutes of video calling. Here’s how you can get started and most of other related queries answered.

How to Activate Facetime on your iPhone:

Though this guide is written for iPhone4, but if you are using any other version of iPhone/iPad, Facetime activation method remains the same.

Go to Settings > Phone > Facetime > On. The iPhone  will automatically send an SMS(international for non US users) and within 10 seconds your Facetime will be active.

facetime-iphone4-25.jpg Facetime activation

This only needs to be done once per sim card, and that too is automatic. No registration or user id required. Like Apple says, Facetime works out of the box.

Once the “Waiting for Activation” message goes away you are good to go. Please note that you will not be able to see the SMS sent for activation through your Messages app. If you have trouble activating Facetime, wait for our post which talks about activation issues for unofficial carriers.

iPod Touch users go to Settings > Facetime to confirm and verify your email address that will be used to receive calls. If unverified, follow instructions sent to email to get started.

Charges for using Fcaetime

No. We were not charged for our Facetime calls. It’s free for video calls between iPhone 4 and iPod touch devices. Both devices need to be connected to a wifi network with internet access(not necessarily same network).

How to start a Facetime video call

There has been a lot of doubt as to how the Facetime call is authenticated. Harsh and I tried the email address method yesterday but that failed and here’s why.
Facetime uses two ways to identify people – Phone number or email address. And the the type of device determines which one will be used.
facetime-iphone4-80.jpg
  • When calling an iPhone 4: Use the phone number of the person you are calling.
  • When calling an iPod touch (4th generation): Use the email address designated for FaceTime of the person you are calling.

Please note that you need iOS 4.1 to make calls or receive them from users on iPod Touch.

How to Make a Facetime Call

There are two ways of initiating a Facetime call. You could make a phone call just the way you normally do and then once you are there on the call click on Facetime. If your friend accepts the Facetime request call, voice call will end and you will no more be charged for voice.

facetime-iphone4-79.jpg
facetime-iphone4-83.jpg facetime-iphone4-86.jpg

Another way is directly making a Facetime call. Go to your contacts page and tap Facetime. Choose a method of identification(phone or email). Your friend will receive a notification if he’s on wifi. If he accepts you are good to go.

On iPod touch, there is an additional Facetime app. You can use it to call any of your contacts or through the contacts app like mentioned above.

Can I switch Cameras

facetime3.png

The Facetime call starts with your front camera. You can switch to the rear camera and back by clicking on the button in lower right corner.
facetime4.png

Some other features of Facetime you might want to know:

Muting Facetime

The Mute button will only prevent your audio from going through. Your video will still be visible to the other person.

Landscape Support

Just rotate the iPhone to switch to this mode.

Moving the preview window

The small window which shows your own Face can be moved around by dragging if it obstructs your view in the default position.

Do something else and get back to Facetime again?

If you need to check another app while you are on Facetime, no problem. Just hit home button and do your work. Your video will freeze on last frame and audio chat can still be continued. Once you click on the green bar similar to the one you get with voice calls, your video chat will be resumed.

Last Tip for Facetime Users:

You can also add Facetime to your Favorites list and start a Facetime call right from there. Facetime calls will also feature in your Recent Calls history.

Conclusion

So, that’s all we have gathered so far about Facetime. It’s been a great experience so far for us. Rumors are afloat that Facetime might soon come to iPads, Macs and Windows PCs too. We are really looking forward to that.

I hope this detailed Facetime usage guide will help you to start using this useful free service. In upcoming article, we will also be talking about iMessage, but for now why don’t you go ahead and try making a Facetime call to other iOS user in your contact list.

11 Reasons Why I love My Mac and Why You Should Too

Before I start confessing my love for the Mac, let me first admit something. Yes, I am a devoted Apple fan and take a lot of pride in it. I love a Mac because I daresay, it is a far better design and helps me perform all my tasks more efficiently.

Why I love My Mac

I switched to a Mac less than two years ago. So, that leaves me with around ten years of PC experience. Having said that, I know now my readers will give me a little extra credibility for whatever I write next.

Why I love my Mac So Much?

The Design & Form Factor

The best part about an Apple product is that the software and the hardware are both manufactured by the same people. Everyone knows how advantageous that is. Almost zero incompatibility issues with the hardware. Even when you upgrade your Operating System.

Next, I’ll speak of the form factor. This is my favorite part. The Apple devices are like a minimalist’s dream come true. Ever since the unibody Macbooks came into existence I’ve been in the awe of it. It was last year that I got my first unibody Macbook Pro(MBP).

The Design & Form Factor

Best in Class Hardware

I loved the way Apple used to classify the previous generation MacBooks as ones “designed to match standards which don’t even exist yet.” It’s true. Macbooks are not luxuries, and They are essentials. Try the MultiTouch trackpad and I swear it will blow you away. The glass trackpad remains pristine forever, and the added gestures on multitouch make it all the more classier.

The Operating System

Another favorite part of mine. I don’t hate Windows. But sorry I can’t ever love it. Bill Gates, himself once admitted in a Fortune Magazine interview as to how fanatic Steve Jobs has been about the User Interface(UI). The OS X El Captain experience is something you are missing out on in case you do not own an Apple Computer.

os-x-el-capitan

Let’s illustrate this further. The UI on Leopard is far more superior and intuitive than Windows. The learning curve for any normal user is faster on the former. Most of the newer UI elements on Windows have been borrowed extensively from Apple’s OS. Moreover, even my Mom can use it. That’s one hell of a UI test. Jokes apart, lets look at the framework. Why to bother a layman with the fear of spyware and malware. There is no registry on Mac and hence half the trouble reduced. Any serious tweak on the Mac will require authorisation from the user.

Gone are the days when the number of Software packages for the Mac were limited. Today, you have the best of them available to you in both worlds making the switch to Leopard all the easier.

Mac Works Out of the Box

This is a very important factor as well. You know when you first run your PC you cannot view any of the PDF or DOCS or Quicktime Movies etc. without the need for installing extra software. And I really find that insane. I don’t need the ability to edit files right away but I beg of you, let me at least view them?

The Finder (Explorer’s equivalent on Mac) will let you preview just any file without opening it in any application. You need to look into any file at all, just press the Spacebar on your keyboard. You will have a preview of the file open up. Press the Spacebar again and it goes away. You did not have to open an application just to take a quick look at the file. For instance, you need to look at the date and sender’s name inside three PDF files on your desktop. You don’t have to Open each file. Just quickly preview each. It’s efficient. You save time as well as energy. And all of us need to.

Mac Finder
I’m previewing an M4R iPhone ringtone here without opening it in an Application

The System won’t Crash on Yo

In the past, one year on my new MBP, not once has the system crashed on me. The machine will ALWAYS be responsive. A Mac user, ordinarily, doesn’t know what is it like when the system hangs. The worst scenario I’ve had is that a browser goes unresponsive. When Firefox stops responding, I leave it as it is and fire up Safari. And Finder sucks way less than Explorer. This is Windows XP Explorer I’m talking about. The one on Windows 7 might have learned a few lessons.

Spotlight Search

All your files on the Mac will be indexed and ready for searching. Whenever you need something, just press Command + Space and type. Be it calculating 54*37 or the definition of “Histrionic” or the name of a file or the contents of a document you remember. Just type it and you’ll have results in less than a second. So no matter how cluttered your hard drive is and where you throw your files, they will always be available to you only a Spotlight Search away.

More out of the Box Love

All the basic things that you will need to do, you will have a tool available on the Mac. Like I said you will not need to install anything on the first day itself. Do You want to take a screenshot, my blogger friend? Press Command + Shift + 3. You don’t want the full screen but only a part press Command + Shift + 4. The pictures will be ready for you right on your desktop.

Multiple Desktops

You need multiple desktops. No problem. Spaces to the rescue. As you can see in this screenshot, I’ve been composing this blog post in the top left screen, browsing Apple wallpapers in the next. When I run out of ideas I can take a break and just return to watching the TV show in the third screen. Easy Right?

Multiple Desktops

Customer Support

If you have used any Apple hardware you’ll know how much you love their Support. No matter how bad your problem is, you’ll have a qualified person to speak to who’ll understand exactly what you are talking about. PC users, face it. You never had this advantage. This is the reason Apple rates highest in consumer satisfaction.  Apple emerged victorious in JD Power survey for the same.

The list of outstanding features just goes on and on. I’ll keep sharing more of  Mac love for the forthcoming posts. Let’s switch perspective now. What does PC still have then? And why their sales? I could instantly, think of the following two points.

Cons of Mac Book and Apple computer:

Cost Factor

I do agree. PCs are on an average cheaper than Apple computer. Yes, significantly cheaper. For the price of an entry-level Apple computer you can get a way advanced PC. This is one of the advantages that PCs have for themselves. Apple fans however will let a hole in their wallets. I want the best product and I will pay whatever it takes.

Options and Customizations

Again PC users have a greater advantage here. But the point is what do we really need it. The professionals apart, lets talk about the normal user. He doesn’t need many options. Why put him in the dilemma to decide if he wants/needs a Bluray or Dual Layer DVD drive. Apple gives you a lesser number of options and no sub standard configurations. You will not get a computer with 1GB of RAM from them no matter how badly you want it.

PC and MAC

All you PC lovers. I’m your culprit. Feel free to hit me as much as you like. I won’t disapprove your comment no matter how much Apple hatred you show. 😛 And the one-millionth a dollar question. Are you a PC or a MAC?

How-to Setup iTunes WiFi Sync in iOS 5

Apple unleashed it’s greatest and best mobile operating system, iOS 5, at the WWDC 2011 earlier this year. It was again talked about at the ‘Let’s Talk iPhone’ event and the iOS 5 GM was let loose to developers. Finally, after much wait, Apple released the final version of iOS 5 to the public on October 12. If you haven’t upgraded to iOS 5 yet, then you should. It’s compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3/4G and iPad 1/2.

iOS 5 brings about 200 new features, while most of them are not that prominent enough, the new Notifications, iCloud, iMessages, Camera features and WiFi sync are very noticeable. iTunes WiFi sync is pretty cool, since this completely eradicates the need of a cable to connect your iOS Device to the PC or Mac. Using this feature, you can sync everything from your computer to your iOS device wirelessly. Before you setup iTunes WiFi sync, make sure both, your iOS device and the computer are on the same WiFi network.

Setup iTunes WiFi Sync

  • Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and then connect your iOS device.
  • Select your device and click on the Summary Tab. Scroll down and you should see an option ‘Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi’. Check the option and click on Apply.

iTunes WiFi Sync

  • Now, on your iOS device, under Settings>General>iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, you’ll see the option to Sync your device.

  • Select Sync Now and see the magic happen.

This is very useful if you’re one of those people who don’t like wires and even if you’re a normal person, this can really make syncing easier for you. Once this is enabled, and both your iOS device and the computer are on the same network, you should see your device listed in iTunes even when not connected.

Drag and drop any content from iTunes to your listed device to wirelessly sync. It’s that simple and yes it works. Don’t blame iTunes if the syncing is slow, it’s most likely your WiFi connection that’s responsible.

Do let me know if you faced any problem setting up iOS wi-fi sync? If you find this tutorial, informative, don’t forget to share it on Google plus and Facebook.

Run it and click “Shared Folder”, you can not only add video/music folder from hard disk but also import the iTunes playlist for streaming. Other functions could also be found here, for instance, click “Permission” tab and users can set permission level (Admin, Kid and Public) to the shared file. Under the “Information” tab, the IP address of your server computer is shown. The “Web” tab allows users to access the shared media using any web browser with the URL shown on the server. With Air Playit installed, you can transfer your videos and music wirelessly with little time and effort.

Air Playit enables users to access the videos and audios stored on a PC or Mac using any web browser.

For instance, it enables users to add remote server by specifying IP address and supports multi-audio tracks video for you to choose any language in the video file. It can also remotely power off your computer after finishing watching. Compared with other video/audio streaming software, Air Playit has an innovative feature- TV out that empowers you to stream video & music to TV via iPhone iPad etc. It is a good idea to use Air Playit and start a new way to transfer your videos and music and play them on your beloved iOS device.

How to use Air Playit to transfer media from computer to your iOS device.

Download Air Playit server (both Mac and Windows versions are available) and install it onto the computer, and then install the client app for iPad or client app for iPhone on your iOS device.

Run Air Playit server, click “Shared folders” and add the video or music folder that you need to stream to your iPad or iPhone.

Air-playit-Server

On your iPad or iPhone, run the client app and add your server and tap it. The client app will detect and connect to the server automatically by Bonjour service. If sometimes it can’t find the Bonjour connection information, you need to manually input the server address which is shown on the server or close the firewall for a try. Here I would like to take iPhone for example.

Browse the shard folders under the server, then tap your desired folder, select any file that you need and click “Play”, just play the music and video on the go without waiting for the conversion.

Using this software will certainly take care of pain of transferring multi-media files from your desktop to your iOS device. Do let us know your review of Air playit or any other streaming software if you are using?

How to Fix iTunes Error 1015

The process of upgrading your iOS device to a custom firmware or downgrading to one that isn’t supported by your version of iTunes always comes with errors. There are so many errors that one will encounter when doing an upgrade or a restore, but the most common one would be the 1015 error on iPhone. I’m about to explain to you a really simple trick on how to fix 1015 error in iTunes.

Error 1015

The 1015 error pertains to the recovery loop experienced by iOS device users when upgrading to a custom firmware, specially the older ones such as iOS 4.1, iOS 4.2.1 and so on. This happens when you’re trying to restore to an iOS version that your version of iTunes doesn’t recognize, or when there’s a conflict with the firmware itself. Your iOS device, thus goes in to a recovery loop, where it isn’t able to exit it. This normally leaves the user in a state of paranoia and this message from iTunes;

The iphone “iphone” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1015)

however, you don’t need to worry because it’s not as bad as you think.

Fixing Error 1015 in iTunes: Recboot

Here’s a simple trick on how to fix 1015 error in iTunes that doesn’t require much time. All you have to do is download and install a free software known as Recboot, use it to get your iOS device out of recovery mode and voila.

  • Download Recboot for Windows and Mac.
  • Make sure your device is connected to the computer and iTunes is running.
  • Run Recboot and select Exit Recovery Mode.
Recboot
  • Only select Exit Recovery mode if your iOS device is stuck in Recovery loop and is doing nothing or showing error 1015 in iTunes.
That’s it. You’re now out of the Recovery mode and the iOS device should reboot. You’ll then be treated with an activation screen, but if you’ve used a custom firmware or have already jailbroken it, then you’ll  be taken straight to the homescreen. And that is how to fix 1015 error in iTunes!

The Patent War Between Apple and Samsung [Infographic]

If you’re a tech enthusiast or either an Apple or Samsung power user, then you probably know about the war going on between them. It started last year when Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Tab 10.1, which very much looked like the iPad and that’s when it all started. Apple tried and succeeded blocking sales of Samsung products in various countries and that didn’t make the latter very happy. Then there was the revenge.

Ever since then, the war hasn’t stopped and it keeps getting worse. In the beginning, it was Apple who was winning, but now it’s Samsung who’s got some wins in it’s pocket. Apple uses lots of parts manufactured by Samsung, which gives the latter a lot of profit, so it’s not likely that this will keep going on forever. They need each other, but they also need to safeguard their patents. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, the following Infographic made by Online MBA Guide will help you catch up.

Samsung even released ads and paperwork to make Apple and it’s users look bad, which actually gave Samsung bad rep. Looks like this patent war between the two will keep on going till the judges and the companies get tired and someone calls truce. There are a lot of more courtroom visits left for both the companies, and I really hope that they come to a decision before things get bad.

How to Get iPhone SMS Delivery Report

When you send a text message to someone, you always want to know if it was delivered to them or not. If you’re using an iPhone, the stock SMS app won’t give you any such delivery notifications, except on the new iMessage. There are third party apps like BiteSMS that do provide extra features and a delivery notification as well, but wouldn’t it be nice if the original SMS app had it. Well, if you’re using a jailbroken iPhone, then you’re in luck, because there’s a tweak to make that happen.

iphone sms delivery report

How to Get iPhone SMS Delivery Report

SMSConfirmation is a Cydia tweak for jailbroken iPhones that brings the much needed iPhone SMS delivery report to the stock Message app. Normally, all the other mobile operating systems do provide the option of whether you want to get the delivery notification. The notifications are quite useful, as it lets you know if the recipient has received your text or not, specially if you’re in a area where this is low network coverage. Times like those, SMS delivery notifications on the iPhone could be pretty helpful.

When you send a text message, a popup appears saying Message sent, which means that your text has been delivered to the recipient. Once the tweak is installed on your iOS device, it will show you the notification pop-up even if you navigate away from the Message app. However, it doesn’t utilize the new iOS 5 notification center features, so no banner/lockscreen notifications. All you get is a popup in the form of the older iOS notifications, which is still not bad.

The tweak is available for free from ModMyi repo in Cydia or you could just perform a search to find it. Once it’s installed, you’ll have to respring your device to be able to receive the notifications and there are no settings for the tweak. If you don’t like it, and want to get rid of it, then all you have to do is head over to Cydia and uninstall the tweak.

Try this tweak and let us know if it worked for you and also if it’s useful. iPhone SMS delivery report is something that we’ve all been wanting to have on our devices from a long time.

How to Enable Hidden Panorama Mode in iOS 5 [Jailbroken]

Looks like at least two new hidden features have been unearthed in the latest iOS 5, and they’re pretty useful. I’m sure all of you must’ve heard of Panorama, a mode that lets you take wider pictures in a single shot. There are many apps out there that you could use to take Panoramic pictures from your iOS devices camera, but imagine a built in feature. Yes, there’s a hidden Panorama mode in the iOS 5 camera app.

How to Enable hidden Panorama Mode in iOS 5

The hidden Panorama mode in iOS 5 lets you take wider pictures and uses the Gyroscope in iPhone 4 and iPad 2 to tell you if your sweeping motion is balanced. It works pretty good for a stock and hidden camera feature and although it doesn’t go all the way to 360 degrees, it covers most of the view. It’s a useful feature then, and here’s how you can get it enabled on your jailbroken iOS 5 device. For now, this only applies to the iPhone 4 and the the iPad 2, because only those come with a gyroscope. There are two ways to enable panorama mode in iOS 5, and below are both of them:

Using iFile to Edit plist Files on iPhone

  • Launch Cydia and install iFile.
  • Open iFile and navigate to var/mobile/Libraries/Preferences and look for the string com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist.
  • Open com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist using the Property List Viewer.
  • Now click on the + button located at the bottom to Add Item.
  • Use the name as EnableFirebreak and the Type as Boolean. Create the new item.
  • Go back and you should now see a toggle to switch on/off EnableFirebreak.
  • Turn it on, exit iFile and respring your device.
  • Open the camera app and you should see Panorama Mode in the Options menu.
That is one way of doing it. Now let me tell you about the second method, which is much simpler and easier for people who don’t like to play with plist files. It involves installing a Cydia tweak called Firebreak.  This tweak is available in the Big Boss repo for free, alternatively, you could also search for it on Cydia and try the Panorama mode out.
Have you unearthed the hidden panorama mode in iOS 5? Do check it out and let us know if it’s going to help you out on your adventures.

Here’s Why the iPhone May Always Have a 3.5 Inch Display

There’s a really practical reason as to why Apple thinks that a mobile phone touting a display larger than 3.5 inches is actually useless. After reading this post you’ll probably get rid of that Galaxy S 2 with the huge 4.3 inch screen. Normal human beings don’t use all 10 fingers at one go, while using the phone to make a call, reply to text, look something up or any regular gesture.

All of us normally use our thumb finger most of the time. Why? Because it is easier to do so and this way, you can also hold your phone securely in your palm. Now, go hold your 4 inch device and try reaching the top corner of the screen with your thumb, unless you’re one of the Fantastic 4’s, this is not normally possible. This is where display size matters.

A mobile device that has a 4 inch or larger display is practically useless, since you’ll not be able to reach all the areas of the magnificent AMOLED or IPS touchscreen without risking to drop it. Here’s a piece of information from Designer Dustin Curtis who believes;

Touching the upper right corner of the screen on the Galaxy S II using one hand, with its 4.27-inch screen, while you’re walking down the street looking at Google Maps, is extremely difficult and frustrating. I pulled out my iPhone 4 to do a quick test, and it turns out that when you hold the iPhone in your left hand and articulate your thumb, you can reach almost exactly to the other side of the screen. This means it’s easy to touch any area of the screen while holding the phone in one hand, with your thumb. It is almost impossible to do this on the Galaxy S II.

As you can see, in the above screenshot, this is actually very true. Now, go try it on your phone, if you have a device that has a display anywhere south of 4 inch, it’ll be really easy to use with one hand. But, a 3.5 inch display is actually the best to go with. When Apple recently introduced the iPhone 4S, people were really disappointed that it carried the same design and screen size. Now you know why Apple products actually make sense. Having a big screen is very pointless, unless you have nothing else to do with your other hand or are watching movies and playing games on it.

This is why Apple chose to stick with a 3.5 inch display and maybe, even the iPhone 5 will sport a display smaller than 4 inch, or maybe they’ll come up with something out of the world.

Don’t you think a phone with a large display is actually a pain to use with one hand, because that’s how normal phones are used.
