The Evolution of Gaming PCs [MicroGraphic]

No one pushes a harmless CPU and graphics card to the very brink quite like a serious gamer. It’s a point of pride with many players that their gaming system can skillfully walk the line between bleeding-edge game play and suddenly melting processors. (It’s one thing to have an advanced cooling system, but it’s something else completely when you feel compelled to keep a fire extinguisher close at hand.)

Gamers can go to extreme lengths just to squeak out a better refresh rate or a few more frames per second, and they’re quick to take advantage of the latest technology as it is released. Over the last 30 years there have been some significant advances in CPU and graphics technology and an occasional plateau as well. Together the gaming industry and gamers have pushed the evolution of the common CPU and associated graphics cards to the point that it’s hard to believe how far we’ve really come.

Evolution of Gaming PC's

The Genesis of Gaming PCs

The Commodore 64 was introduced in January 1982 with a CPU that clocked in at 1.024 megahertz and featured a wholesome 64 kilobytes of RAM. The 16 colors on the 320×200 display definitely don’t seem like much today, but it was enough to play the likes of Q*Bert, Pole Position, and Dig Dug. The games were simplistic but fun, and 30 years later we still talk about them and play them on a variety of systems. These specs seem miniscule by today’s standards, but they were enough to make the Commodore 64 the best-selling single personal computer model of all time.

For the next decade, things really didn’t get that much faster. Intel began to release the X86 series throughout the 80s and early 90s, which made some strides and created an environment where games like SimCity and Doom could start changing the way we thought about games. We now had enough power in these computers to start creating an immersive experience. These games would set the tone for the industry for the next twenty years.

Major CPU Advances

The Pentium Pro started to really increase the performance of the average gaming computer, and we saw these CPUs start to clock much higher speeds. Between ‘95 and ‘99 we saw a consistent growth in processor speeds, but it was in 2000, with the launch of the Pentium 4 and AMDK7 that we started to see some major advances in capabilities.

In the gaming world games like Doom led to Quake, Unreal, and Half-Life, and real time strategy games began to take off. We had the power to manage millions of polygons for a complete first-person experience and well-balanced and addictive games like StarCraft began to make competitive (and professional) gaming possible.

Jumps and Plateaus in Gaming Pc’s

Between 2000 and 2004 there was a major jump in technology, and the Pentium 4 nearly doubled its speed from 1.5 GHz to 3.06 GHz (on average). This happened in time for the push toward online gaming and MMORPGs like World of Warcraft as well as some new developments in the FPS world. Serious gamers could really push the graphics and frame rates of their PCs to get an edge on their competition, and huge guilds of virtual adventurers could raid a massive dungeon without experiencing undue amounts of lag.

Once we hit this point, though, the actual clocked speeds of these processors hit a plateau for a while. This wasn’t because there weren’t any advances in technology, it’s just that the CPUs had changed their focus to dual and quad core processing. Of course, this didn’t stop serious gamers from overclocking their new Core i7 and pushing it to a nice, warm 4.2 GHz to really enhance their Modern Warfare 3 experience.

An open question to gamer out here, which graphics card and processor do you prefer for your gaming Pcs?

Gamestop has rolled out Acer Iconia Tab A100, Asus Eee Pad Transformer and the Samsung Galaxy Tab in 200 of their stores across USA which comes bundled with Kongregate’s Arcade app store that offers 7 free high quality games including titles like Dead Space, Madden and Sonic CD.

This is a part of their experiment, if they get good response from people; they are going to release more tablets in 2012.

You must be wondering, when there are so many games available on Android Market, why should I buy a New Tablet from these guys. Well, definitely, there are several games available on Android Market and few of them are HD also, but these games are truly developed for some serious gaming action.

It is possible that this is released to compete with Tablets released by Sony. Sony’s tablets come loaded with PlayStation app on which you can enjoy some high quality games.

The tablets offered by Gamestop are priced somewhat close to what you would usually pay. Acer Iconia Tab 8GB would be offered at $330, ASUS Eee Pad Transformer at $400 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (or 750) at $500. They are also going to bundle a Bluetooth gamepad with all these tablets for a better gaming experience.

According to me, if you think you might use a Tablet for gaming, you shouldn’t miss this deal.

How to Use USB Internet on PlayStation 3

Recently, I bought PlayStation 3 and as I played more and more, I got to know about to PlayStation Network and PlayStation Store. They interested me. Then I tried connecting my USB internet with the PlayStation 3 because my modem internet was not anywhere near the PlayStation 3.

But, I wasn’t able to connect the USB internet on my PS 3. After days of searching about it, I finally got the solution. There was a need of configuring my netbook’s network settings. I just felt that many people required such a tutorial and that’s why I have come up with this post.

Materials Required: LAN Wire, USB Internet, Netbook or Laptop, PlayStation 3

Note: This tutorial has been practiced on Windows 7.

ON YOUR NETBOOK/LAPTOP:

1. Open Control Panel and search for Network and Sharing Center. Open it.
2. Click on the name of the connection.
3. Click on Properties.
4. Click on “Sharing” tab.
5. Tick the first box and select “Wired Ethernet Connection” in the drop-down box.
6. Click on OK. Close the Properties box.

ON YOUR PLAYSTATION 3:

1. Switch on your system.
2. Go to “Settings”.
3. Find “Network Settings”.
4. Click on “Internet Connection Test”.

It will then search for the required information and your internet would be connected.

You may need to update your PlayStation 3 to 3.72 version to sign up on PlayStation Network and use the online features of the games. That’s all what you require to do. Adding internet to PlayStation 3 makes your whole PS experience a lot more better and awesome. You can create hundreds of friends using PlayStation Network and if you have the PlayStation Eye(Motion Sensor for PlayStation Move), you can also video chat with your friends adding a lot of fun.

If you have any problem, you may use the comments to tell me about the problem. I will try my best to solve them and bring the best experience to you.

3 Best Angry Birds Look-Alike Games You Should Definitely Play

Who can deny the popularity of Angry Birds and the addiction it brings along with it. I believe that if you haven’t played Angry Birds then you haven’t experience the gaming pleasure. Since the day I started playing Angry Birds I fell in love with catapulting games that employ simple physics.

If you happen to be a lover of action-packed games then I guess you won’t be fascinated with the list of games that I have compiled for you guys today. But if you like slinging items to destroy enemies across a river or a field then do read on! Because the web-games that I have lined-up today will definitely rejuvenate the Angry Birds experience.

Ninja Dogs

image

First up is the Ninja Dogs game, I found this game highly addictive and it is being played almost 600,000 times and is rated as a 5 star game on developers website. The goal is pretty simple, get the Ninja Dog Master free by launching dogs via canon targeting the cats. You will find a lot of resemblance between Ninja Dogs and Angry birds primarily because of the cartoon style characters. The animated dog characters are very much like birds in Angry Birds, huge bodies with tiny heads.

Siege Master

image

Developed by Armor games, in this title you are in the possession of multitude of siege weapons and the goal is to conquer the kingdom. The game is based-on simple physics rules, you have to employ your weaponry like catapult to abolish your medieval times enemy. Fond of destructing structures, then you should give Siege Master a try.

Sieger

image

This one is pretty special and I think you will find it more interesting and intriguing then Angry Birds. In this particular game you don’t have to shoot side-wise, rather it is very much like a FPS game in which the players shoots directly at the target. You have to hit the characters bearing an exclamation mark to keep your siege. Ammo is limited and you can’t hit your own troops, so you have to finish off the enemy with the limited resources. Sieger is a very interesting game with an addictive gameplay.

Do play these games and give us your Feedback that whether they were good then Angry Birds or not.

Sony PlayStation Vita to Hit Japan on December 17, UI Showcased

Sony officially launched the next generation portable gaming device, that they call the PlayStation Vita, at E3 2011 few months back. And since then, gamers all over the world have been waiting for the official availability of the Vita in stores, but Sony did not give any exact pricing or date. However, yesterday Sony officially announced that the portable gaming device will be available in Japan beginning December 17.

The PlayStation Vita has some real good hardware and features, some of which were showcased at the recent event held in Japan. Lot of new things were shown, including the simple user interface of the gaming device and the SmartAR augmented reality feature that it uses to make games more realistic. Engadget got to test some of those features at the conference yesterday and you can check out the videos at the end of the post. The augmented reality feature is eye-popping and could change the way we play, make the world your game area.

The UI on the PS Vita is very simple, like that of a mobile device and doesn’t need much expertise to set up. The huge touchscreen certainly helps in easier navigation and with the game titles that were showcased at the event it sure looks like it’s going to turn a lot of heads. We have no idea as to when and how much the Vita will be priced when it hits shelves elsewhere, but people in Japan still know when to expect it. Also with the launch in Japan, Sony plans to provide Prepaid 3G services by NTT DoCoMo for $13(25 hours) and $65(100 hours). The PlayStation Vita will be available for pre-order starting from October 15 and we’ll update you with the how and where. For now check out these videos:

How many of you are eagerly waiting for the PS Vita?

Max Payne 3 for iOS and Android Coming Next March

Much awaited Max Payne 3 will be heading for release in March next year as quoted by Rockstar games two days ago. But we have a good news for all you MaxPayne fans out there the title along with PC, Xbox and PS3 will also be heading to your iOS and Android devices.

Max Payne 3-Mobile

The game will be named Max Payne 3 HD and as the name suggest the game will come in HD Graphic, high resolution textures, dedicated story line and many other features that are present in big screen version. However there is no official word about this in the press conference but the sources close to Rockstar confirms these rumors. Considering the graphics demand of the games we can assume the game to run smoothly only on dual cores.

There is no word about the pricing but considering it Triple-A title and with a big budget launch we might expect the pricing little bit on the higher side. Till then you can enjoy some official shots of the game.

maxpayne3-Android-IOS

I will certainly get a copy of this when it’s finally out for iOS and Android phones as well as PC, Xbox and PS3. Let’s wait and see how this one turns out to be.

Tired of Angry Birds? Try Angry Anna with Anna Hazare

Angry Birds stormed the internet, mobile devices, laptops and everywhere possible. It’s download numbers have gone well above the sky and are still climbing as it’s one of the most fun games available for a mobile device. Let’s move away from the ever treacherous angry birds and those pigs for a while and talk about what’s happening over here in India.

The anti-corruption movement is what’s happening over here, lead by Mr. Anna Hazare and his millions of followers. Now if you’re not so active and want to support him by having a go at the corrupt politicians, then here’s what you should do. If you love swinging angry birds at pigs, monkeys and other big birds, then it’s pretty obvious you love flinging things at things.

Some crazy yet awesome developer(s) called Geekmentor decided to add some fun to this whole Anti-corruption movement of Anna Hazare and the Indians. The idea is to throw Mr.Anna and some followers at certain corrupt politicians that very closely resemble Manmohan Singh and P.Chidambaram, yes exactly like Angry Birds.

It’s quite fun and funny, but then it’s not as good as Angry Birds. You should only play this if you really have nothing to do and are really lazy to go out and support Anna. There aren’t many levels either, just 5 of them and it’s no app, it’s a web app, flash probably.

The game is accurately named as Angry Anna and has funny noises and things that’ll make you complete those 5 small levels. Not much work has been put in to the making of this, but whatever, it’s worth 10 minutes of your time.

Go play Angry Anna right away at angryanna.com.
