This is not as big as the previous news, about Google and Motorola, but it is a good news for all those Blackberry fans out there. If you’re in the US of A, and want to get your hands on a Blackberry Bold 9930, you can get it for just $249.99 from Verizon Wireless. The Bold 9930 has been leaked before, but now is available officially on Verizon’s site.
Verizon had earlier stated that they will be launching the Bold on their site and they’ve done exactly that. The Bold 9930 is actually a pretty great device with all the latest hardware and features. With the looks similar to the Bold 9000, this phone packs in a 2.8 Inch touchscreen display along with a 6 percent wider QWERTY keyboard. That’s not it, the BlackBerry Bold 9930 features;
1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor, but single-core
768 mb of RAM
8 gb of Internal storage, expandable up to 40 GB.
5 megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording.
An NFC chip is also placed behind the battery cover.
All that for $249.99 if you decide to sign a 2 year contract with Verizon, whereas otherwise the phone will cost you about $509.99. Oh yeah, did I mention that this is also the thinnest Blackberry ever? Yeah and it also runs on BB OS 7!! The Bold 9930 was launched along with the Bold 9900 few weeks ago and both of them run on BB OS 7. RIM wants to sell as many Blackberry phones as possible since their market share around the world is slowly dropping. It’s main aim is to stand along Apple and Android phones and the new OS 7 has been dealt with to perform better and faster than before.
If you’re already on Verizon and have an NE2 upgrade, then you can grab this berry for just about $199.99. You can order your Bold 9930 right away from here and will be available at all Verizon stores starting August 25.
There are reports of fresh attacks of well known Trojan horse ZeuS on Blackberry devices. Blackberry has a special reputation of being a secure platform but recent news are defamatory. Problem becomes deepening when we come across the infecting mechanism of this malware. The Trojan once installed becomes completely invisible leaving no trail to track. ZeuS also known as Zbot is a Trojan horse that steals banking information by keystroke logging.
As South Asia director of Kaspersky Lab puts the present situation as :
“There has been a new wave of malware attack that has started affecting BlackBerry and it has originated from Poland. The aim is to extract banking passwords.”
Trend Micro,a security research firm reported a Zeus Trojan specifically targeting Blackberry devices. Virus notes the keystroke while user using Mobile banking and thus steals the personal information like passwords etc. Amit Nath, Trend Micro’s security manager in India and SAARC elucidated the virus mechanism. Zeus trojan “does not display any graphical user interface that can prompt users about the infection. Instead, it removes itself from the list of applications. The virus can view, delete and forward text messages, block calls, change the administrator on the device and block phone numbers. It allows the hacker to change the telephone number the device sends all the data to in the event that it gets shut down.”
This time Trojan specifically known as BBOS_ZITMO.B waits for to be installed, once installed it disappears, sends “App Installed OK” message to a botnet administrator then takes control over SMS function of Blackberry device. Now the device is infected and malware is ready to perform operations. These operations are commanded by botnet administrator. The actual phone user remains completely ignorant of these commands. In case the virus is apprehended and kicked out the administrator can hand over command privileges to a new administrator number, with the Set Administrator command.
Malware can carry out following commands:
Hiding SMS and sending it to Administrator without any knowledge tp user.
switch the phone on or off remotely.
How a secure platform like Blackberry was cracked is not easy to say, although Research in Motion has nothing uttered about the present scenario but the strong chances about the potential cause of breaching the security may be installing out-of-the-box applications.
So be warned and precautious while executing transactions and other banking options through the mobile phones and do not forget to update the virus database of your antivirus.
Blackberry hasn’t released any official info on this, but they seemed to have secretly pushed out an update for the Blackberry App World. Some of you Blackberry users out there may already have been subjected to notifications regarding the update, those who haven’t can either download it via your phone by checking for updates or you can download latest version 18.104.22.168 from the Blackberry website.
Many of you may not have received the updates, because it only started rolling out earlier today. RIM had removed the App World for a while before releasing the updated version. Blackberry did not give out any change log either, so I can’t really tell you whats new with this new version. What’s left to do is, go over to the Blackberry App World and update to the latest version 22.214.171.124 and find out for yourself.
You could also try and refresh the App World to see if you get the upgrade option, or connect your Berry to the PC and download it via the desktop software.

Angry Birds was and still is a huge success, but to be honest I’m kind of tired and bored with flinging birds at pigs, even though it’s really addicting and hilarious. Although, Angry Birds is available for almost all software platforms now, BlackBerry users still haven’t got a taste of this game on their business phones. Of course it is quite understand that a Business person wouldn’t really enjoy flinging things at smiling frogs, but come one.. it’ll surely help you take the edge off all that work as a business man.
Rovio hasn’t yet developed any version of Angry Birds that would run on the BlackBerry’s OS, and thus another developer took things in to their own hands…or slingshot. A company called Smarter Apps has stolen the idea from Angry Birds and brought out a new game called as Angry Farm. BlackBerry users can now rejoice and make the other Angry Birds counterparts jealous. What’s different in Angry Farm? The name should explain it, but to elaborate, the story begins when the Farmers leave the farm only to attract foxes. The farm animals have to stop the invasion by destroying the foxes that are placed on/inside farm structures and drive them away. The animals that you can fling include chinckens, pigs, goats and cows. What fun!!
You can download this game for your BlackBerry device from the App World for $4.99. Requires BlackBerry OS version 4.6 and above.
