The New iPad : Everything You Need To Know

The latest to join the queue of the cool tablets flying on the market shelves is the new iPad that Apple rolled out a few months back. The new iPad, iPad3 or third generation iPad…call it by whichever name you wish to, it is undoubtedly one of the coolest gadgets that has become the choice of millions. Now, here is my hands on review of the New iPad after using it for months. I’m sure it will help you to make a decision on to buy it or not to buy.

The new ipad

Frankly, I love the latest gadgets and when it is from Apple, I just can’t resist and finally end up buying one. The latest entry in my gadget world is the new iPad.  Ask me to describe this new gadget in one word and I would say, ‘fabulous‘. I might sound crazy but frankly most share of my hard-earned money goes in buying the gadgets. Before buying the third generation iPad, I was using iPad2 from last 8 or 9 months. After using both the tablets I actually can easily distinguish between the two and share my viewpoint . Though, the new iPad is almost similar to iPad2 lookwise but it comes fully loaded with new features that make it one of the stylishly desirable tablets.

Here I am sharing the positive and negative aspects which I have figured out while using the new iPad that will surely help you to take a decision if you are planning to buy one.

Key features of the New iPad

  • Apple A5X (dual-core with quad-core graphics) processor that make it faster than iPad2 that has A5 processor.
  • One of the groundbreaking features of the new iPad is Retina Display with  2048 x 1536 pixels.
  • It has 4G LTE cellular technology that will allow you to browse internet and download files at superfast speed.
  • Mobile users will be excited to see the inclusion of 4G LTE cellular technology, which offers faster mobile downloads.
  • Another exciting feature that I like in new iPad is its 5 mega pixels/1080p rear camera which is a huge improvement over the iPad2 camera.
  • It is available with 16GB, 32GB, 64 storage capacity unlike iPad which is now only available in 16GB.
  • It is first tablet with Bluetooth 4.0 also known as Bluetooth Smart Ready which will help you in faster data transfer between devices.
  • 10-hour battery life, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n connectivity, 1GB RAM,  1080p video recording at 30fps, , four and five-finger swipe gestures are the other notable features that enhance the overall user experience.

Adding feather to the cap Apple has announced the upgraded operating system – iOS6 that will bring cool features like Siri : Apple’s voice-activated personal assistant, FaceTime over cellular networks to the new iPad.

The new iPad Vs iPad 2 ?

How is the new iPad different from iPad2 is one question that you all might be curious about. Frankly, I was keenly interested in knowing how it  is different from iPad2 when its design is almost similar. No doubt, the new iPad is thicker and heavier than iPad2 but its features like amazing features make it stand apart from iPad2.

I was quite amazed when I started using new iPad for the first time because the text was razor sharp, colors were quite rich and everything was perfectly detailed because of retina display. Second thing that really blowed me away was its blazing speed while playing games and doing multitasking ; thanks to A5X chip with quad-core processor.

The new iPad Vs iPad 2

In addition, iOS6 update which is coming this fall will bring features like Siri and Facetime calling over cellular network promising to enhance the overall experience. These two upcoming features will only be available for the new iPad and iPhone 4S users.

Another feature that you might not be aware of is the amazing dictation feature which helps you to convert your words into text. Simply, tap the microphone icon on the keyboard, say what you want to type and it does the typing for you. It was exciting to learn about this cool feature and it was a fun moment to see my new iPad converting my words into text.  Though, if you are an existing iPad2 user and looking to sell it to upgrade your tab to iPad3, I suggest you to wait and stick to iPad2, unless you are complete gadget freak.

Cons of New iPad

  • It is slightly heavier and thicker than iPad2.
  • Its reflective screen doesn’t work well in outdoors.
  • There is no Flash support in the web browser.
  • The iPad misses out the standard USB port like its predecessors. Same goes for its non replaceable battery and memory card slot.
  • There is no GPS receiver in the Wi-Fi version
  • Personally, one thing that bothered me much is that the ‘oh so cool’ tablet becomes uncomfortably hot at times.
  • If you are interested in basic iOS apps like weather, stocks, clock, calculator, voice memos then you might get bugged up not finding them on your new iPad.

Is it worth buying third generation iPad?

I won’t deny that the new iPad became irresistible to me because I was overtaken by the hype and after using it for sometime I have concluded that it definitely has met my expectations. No matter how strongly we talk about bad side of the coin, fact remains that it is loaded with impressive features. As of now, the biggest USP of the new iPad is its magnificent Retina display but the promising features like Siri and Facetime over cellular networks are sure to make you love the new iPad.

Worth buying third generation iPad

Why should you buy the new iPad?

From my personal experience I am writing down the reason why you should buy it or who should buy it.

  • If you are the one who is more cautious about image quality between standard-definition and high-definition images then you should go for the new iPad. This is one reason I bought this cool gadget.
  • It has one of the fast processor with quad-core graphics that will let you enjoy the thrill and excitement of different games.
  • If speed matters to you a lot then this new tablet from Apple is an ideal choice. The new iPad is 4G enabled device that will offer browsing at amazing speed. Go for the one which works on either AT&T’s 4G network or Verizon’s 4G network for fast connection anywhere.
  • It is good for those who love to keep their music and video data stored. Unlike iPad2 that has 16GB storage capacity, the new Apple iPad is available in 16GB, 32GB or 64GB capacity. However, I preferred 16GB for the reason that I don’t have too much of music and video data.

Why buy the new iPad

New iPad Price in India

The new Apple iPad was made available in India in the month of April. The pricing of different models in India are listed below.

The launch of iPad3 in India effected the prices of iPad2 going down to Rs 24,500 for 16 GB Wi-Fi model. You can order it online from Croma store, Vijay Sales or official Apple store in India.

To sum up, I  being a gadget freak would any day suggest you to go for iPad 3 if you are planning to buy one. High-resolution Retina display, faster processor, significant visual improvement over iPad 2 were the compelling features that persuaded me to buy the new iPad.

Won’t say that its good in all perspective as some of you might find it expensive in comparison to iPad2 which is a strong low-cost choice. But trust me the money you spend on buying this new Apple tablet is genuinely worth it!

It almost feels like you are playing the actual game on a real table. Hungry Shark Part 1 HD

A rather gory yet exciting game where you get to control a shark in the Antarctic and have the goal of satisfying its appetite by feeding it with fishes and humans, ultimately helping it become the most formidable predator of the seas. This game is undeniably addictive and simple to play yet it requires quick thinking and action on the part of the player. This is one of the few games that I continually play and the excitement almost never seems to go away! You can literally play this game for hours without ever getting bored. There are also various achievements that can be unlocked by completing 10+ challenges. The Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover Security Flaw

Security is an issue everywhere, on the internet, on your mobile device, on your tablet, on your computer and even in your personal lives. Well, at least on mobile devices and such, there is something called as Password. But, even those passwords aren’t very protective and can be bypassed with hacks such as the one I’m about to share with you. I’m sure you’ve heard of the Smart Cover that Apple made famous with their iPad 2, well, it turns out that they can let a user bypass the Passcode lock and enter the homescreen.

Sounds scary doesn’t it? As 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman discovered, the iPad 2 Smart Cover has a loop in the security and can let users access their Passcode locked devices without needing to entering any code. How bad is that? However, this method will not let you use or open any of the applications once inside the iPad, but imagine if you left an important email or personal file open. People do normally keep their apps open, such as emails, messages, photos or something else. It happens all the time, I’ve experienced it myself. I’ve left apps open and forgotten about it. Once you leave the iPad idle for 30 seconds, it locks itself. Now that’s an opportunity.

There is a simple method on how to do this, and lets find out how you can do it. Be advised, that this is not something cool. It’s literally like breaking in to another’s personal data and can lead to gruesome battles or even death. Here’s how to do it. Remember this will only work if you have a Smart Cover.

  • Lock your device, then hold the iPad’s Power button until the “slide to power off” switch appears
  • Close the iPad’s Smart Cover. This will lock the device again.
  • Open the Smart Cover and select  ‘Cancel’. Baam!! You have successfully bypassed the lock screen.
Check out the video after the break:

What do you think? Hope Apple addresses this issue real soon.

This game can be classified as a strategy game with a very different touch to it. The game has various levels and each level has a different task, you have to complete the challenge in a certain time slot to advance to next levels. Players basically have to build a road ordered by Caesar and in the course of buildings you have to complete tasks like building different structures or even harvesting materials. The game will start with a slow pace but as you keep on advancing the game will pick up its pace from level 3. The demo version of the game has only 5 levels, meaning you have to purchase the full version of Roads of Rome app ($2.99) to play more levels.

Pee Pee Boy

Pee Pee Boy

As the name suggests, this game is truly one of its kind having a bizarre touch to it. You must be thinking that I am joking but guys this is a game for real. 4 Ways How iPad can Help Students Perform Better in Schools

It is by no doubt a fact that consumer electronics and gadgets like PCs and Tablet devices have also revolutionized the education systems in Schools, colleges and universities. Now students don’t have to carry bundle of books with them, rather a single gadget is good enough to carry all of their course and stuff. In the recent times we have seen that Apple’s highly popular tablet iPad has increasingly become popular amongst educators and people attached with academia. So today I will be outlining 4 uses of iPad that can eventually help students excel in their educational institutions.

An Instant Source of Reference

image

This is by far the best way a student can employ iPad in their studies, there are loads of iOS apps that can help a student to find facts, definitions and statistics. Apps like Qwiki, Britannica Encyclopedia and Wikipedia offline are perfect examples of how you can use iPad as a referencing tool.

Notes Taking

image

Another department in which iPad acts as a perfect tool for students, though there are loads of Note taking apps available on iTunes app store but some of them are really useful and helpful. Apps like Evernote, Simplenote and Plain text are ideal iPad applications for taking down notes while student are sitting in a class or taking lectures. All of these note taking apps that I have mentioned houses the capability of synchronizing and transferring text pieces from one device to another.

Managing Assignments & Classes

image

Time Manager on your iPad is very necessary if you happen to be a student because so much is going around and keeping track of all the things is difficult. I personally like InClass app, it is a perfect time managing apps for students that can help them to put things in order. Moreover, apps like Producteev and Wunderlist are also good quality To-Do managers that also allow users to share and sync tasks amongst various devices.

Digital Books

The obvious use of iPad for a student is that he/she can keep their entire books collection whether course books or reference books on iPad. Students can place loads of books on iPad and can take them along anywhere. Students can add notes or any kind of annotation on these digital books without being concerned for damaging the book. Evernote App for iPad Updated: New UI and Text Editing

When it comes to taking notes on an iOS device, the only best alternative to the stock Notes app is Evernote. It’s used by almost all iOS users and is one of the best note-taking apps on the App Store. The app is also available on other platforms and that makes it really useful. It’s also available on the Mac App Store and on Windows too.

Evernote is also available on the iPad, but it wasn’t as good as it’s iPhone or iPod Touch version. Hence, they’ve released a new updated version specially made for the Apple iPad that brings along some awesome new features. To start with, the new updated app receives a complete user interface overhaul. The new app shows all your recent notes on a single page as snippets, so you can zoom in check one single note or zoom out to browse through all the notes.

That’s not it! There are a  lot of other new changes as well that makes the app even more worthy and a must have app for your iOS device. Rich text editing is another important feature that will make Evernote ever more useful. You can now edit your text, make it bold, italic, underlined, highlight text, make lists and more. All just with a tap of button. There’s also the option to include URL’s in your notes and creating heading texts.

In other new features, you can now search within a note for words/text and an all new Slideshow view in Images. There are few more minor changes too, that you can read about. Hit the source link to check them out.

You can download Evernote for iPad from the App Store for free. Don’t worry it’ll work just fine with the iPhone and iPod Touch and all the features will still available other than the new UI for iPad. That’s exclusive!

Google plus app for iPhone Updated for iPad: Not really

Google plus which created lots of buzz in last couple of months and so far people are loving it. With the evolution of Smartphone’s, no social networking website can ignore the need of a dedicated app for different OS. As it is, Google+ app on Android and iPhone is awesome and yesterday Google updated the plus app to make it compatible with iPad. Though no doubt this iPad compatible app sucks to the core.

So far I have used Google+ app on my iPhone and I’ loved it. Specially huddle feature is awesome. Though when I installed Google+ app on my iPad yesterday I was shocked to see it’s not truly compatible with iPad. Probably Google never thought of targeting all iOS device. More over when I compare Facebook app for iPad with Google+ for iPad, Google+ stands no where. Facebook app for iPad is probably my first choice of place to use Facebook. Though it has not been launched officially but here is how you can get Facebook on your iPad. More over, by launching an iPad compatible version, I believe Google+ have done more damage than good.

Here are couple of screenshots of Google+ for iPad and I suggest you to better not install Google+ app on your iPad until Google releases a fully compatible iPad version of Google+.

Google-plus-iPad

Gogole=Plus-iPad=Compatible

You can download Google+ for iPad here. If you already using Google+ app on iPhone, I suggest you to update to latest version as new updated version is more faster and come with settings for Huddle. Do let us know your feedback and review of Google+ for iPad.

MyPad: A Perfect Alternate Facebook App for iPad [Review]

Facebook has no doubt turned out be an essential part of our online activities, no matter how hard you try but getting away from Facebook craze is a bit difficult these days. You pick up any portable device or a smartphone and you will find a Facebook app designed specifically for it. But there is an exception for the Apple’s highly popular tablet device iPad, till now there is no official Facebook app for iPad, unless you try this little trick.

So if you are searching for an app that will provide you with the perfect Facebook experience on your tablet device then I have lined-up a perfect application for you. Here is a brief look at it:

MyPad App Features

MyPad app

MyPad is a graphically rich and a slick Facebook app designed for iPad that not only allow users to use Facebook seamlessly rather it also helps them to connect directly to micro-blogging platform Twitter. If you are an avid user of both Twitter and Facebook then you will find this app perfect recipe for your appetite. Amazingly the app’s interface have no resemblance to Facebook’s original interface, meaning that if you are tired of Facebook’s original interface then this app will be a welcoming change for you.

Load the app and you will notice a nice little sidebar housing all the categories from Facebook. All the contents for a any icon are displayed on the screen’s right side, the interface is dynamic and shifts and adjusts itself according to the user interaction.

Using MyPad App

mypad interface

Attaching a link or a photo, writing a status update on MyPad is pretty simple and easy. You can also configure MyPad to publish contents to your Twitter account automatically. App’s photo viewer is also pretty cool, you can view photo albums in a slide show and also download these photos in a flash. Though there is no option of tagging the photos but even then you can play around with your photos. Event is the other useful feature of the app that I liked, just click on a date and the event for the whole week will pop-up automatically.

Well I really loved this app, mainly because of its interface and fast speed. The free version of the app will be having ads, but if you prefer ad-free version then you can download it MyPad+ from App store for $0.99.

How-to Use WhatsApp on iPad and iPad 2 with WhatsPad

Certain apps have certain limitations, for example, by default WhatsApp doesn’t work on an iPad or iPad 2. WhatsApp is a cross-platform messenger through which you can text, send pictures and videos over the internet. It’s not however, a free application and isn’t available for the Apple iPad either. Now though, there’s a Cydia tweak that will make it work on the iPad.

whatsapp on iPadWhatsPad is a Cydia app that can be used to make WhatsApp messenger work just as it does on an iPhone and you’ll be able to send and receive data, texts etc. Since, WhatsApp is not natively available for the iPad, you’ll have to download it using iTunes and then use iPhone Configuration Utility to install it on the iPad.

How-to Install WhatsApp on iPad

Download iPhone Configuration Utility from here(Mac and PC).

Purchase and download WhatsApp from iTunes, then open the configuration utility. You will see your iPad listed on the left-hand side. Select your iPad, then look for the Applications tab on the right hand side and click on Add. Point it to your WhatsApp ipa file that you just downloaded, usually located in iTunes Media>Mobile Applications on your hard drive. Once you find it, scroll down in the Configuration tool and you should see a Install button. Click on it and WhatsApp will start installing on your iPad.

After installation, open Cydia and look for WhatsPad in the Big Boss repository. If you don’t find it, hit refresh or reload Cydia. Install WhatsPad, a small file, and then open WhatsApp. Voila!! It’s running.

You’ll have to activate WhatsApp before you start using it, so remember to use a number that works because the activation code will be sent to you via SMS. That’s all there is!! Since the app is designed for iPhone and iPod Touch, you could use FullForce Cydia app to force it to utilize all the pixels on your iPad screen. This will work on both iPad and iPad 2 models and WhatsPad is a free app.
