3 iPhone Puzzle Games That Test Your IQ

For those who love iPhone Puzzle games you will find almost an endless supply in the Appstore. Puzzle games are great for casual gamers and I have singled 3 which are the best in the Appstore.

iPhone Puzzle Games

1. Doodle Fit by Gamelion Studios:

Doodle Fit is a game in which you must fit different shaped blocks so that it matches the large outlined shape on your screen. The game will start out very easily by giving you shapes such as a square and rectangle but as you progress you the shapes become more difficult such as insects and letters. There are a total of over 100 different shapes that are divided into 4 levels and the game offers hints for those who need a little extra help. Doodle Fit features amazing chalkboard graphics and upbeat music and is available for only $.99

2. Slice it! by Com2uS:

In this game you must try to slice equal sized shapes into the required number of pieces. Each of the sliced pieces will be graded by accuracy and if there is a large difference between the sizes then you will have to redo the level. You will be given 1-5 stars for perfect cuts or a 5 stars which will give you a hint. These hints can be used in the later levels when you are stuck and there might be many of these occasions in the 60 levels available. Slice it! features a nice paper background with fun music and is only available for $.99

3. Cut the rope by ZeptoLab.

In this game there is a rope that is dangling with candy. You must cut the rope in the right place while dodging different obstacles such as spiders or air guns so that the candy lands in the monster’s mouth. The rope will bounce around realistically and features a fantastic physics engine. Cut the rope has some really cute graphics and has 100 brain boggling puzzles for only $.99!

SpeedUpTV for iPhone App review: iOS Multimedia Gamechanger

SpeedUpTV, from mix1009, is likely to be the video player and multimedia file manager on every iPhone very soon. This full-featured video player does everything iOS users wish the native app did and so very much more.

SpeedUpTV gives users complete control over their multimedia experience on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.  Its video player features are its strongest draw, but the developers of this application went above and beyond to offer users many more value-added features.  The app allows users to watch videos at a variety of speeds, from .05x to 2.0X original speed.  In addition, it functions as a viewer for multiple file types, supporting most image files, and has a built-in folder management system which includes security features like password protection.

SpeedUpTV

SpeedUpTV App review:

The controls are simple, intuitive, and elegantly designed for a great user experience.  The video player controls are similar to those of the native app, giving users a feeling of immediate familiarity despite the many added features and increased functionality.

SpeedUpTV completely replaces the need to use the native app, and makes organizing and viewing other file types a breeze.  One of the multitude of awesome add-ons is the ability to transfer files using the USB cord.  I would like to see this app support some sort of wireless sync, though I would use the USB transfer more—it would just be the icing on the cake for this already fantastic application.  After having the application and using it for a while, I found that the number of features included in the video player alone were even more practical than I’d first imagined.  Scene browsing and slo-mo were perfect for educational videos; the fast forward modes were great for speeding through parts of recorded lectures I wanted to quickly review.  It’s an excellent app for students, and the entertainment functionality should be obvious for anyone who uses their iOS device for watching vids for fun.

The graphics are perfect for a utility like this—non-intrusive and serving the function of the app while providing an aesthetically appealing format.  Playback is excellent, and there’s an added bonus built in with the mult-speed option—the tone of the audio doesn’t get distorted at faster and slower speeds.  This may not seem like much, but when you don’t have to listen to the dull roar of slo-mo audio or the Chipmunks-like squeak of sped up voices, you realize what a great addition this really is.

SpeedUpTV is a new app and if it does well (and it will, offering all this for only $2.99) it’s only going to get better.  It requires iOS 4.0 or later, so if you’re rocking the right device, check out SpeedUpTV app.

3 iPhone Games that Tell Legendary Stories

Some stories are timeless, and some of the best mobile games build their own storylines around the stuff of myths and legends.  Timeless stories capture the imagination; when translated into an interactive game, these stories come alive and allow players of all ages to immerse themselves in a classic tale.

Naked King” is a free game from ActOn that takes the iconic image of the emperor stripped of everything and builds a delightful castle defense strategy adventure around it.  Instead of a king duped by unscrupulous advisors, however, this Naked King has lost his clothes by force.  He needs to reclaim them—not to mention his crown—or he’ll be late for a very important date.  It’s not just any date, either. It’s a wedding date with a princess.  Don’t worry, warriors, this isn’t much of a romance.

“Naked King” is first and foremost about defending, improving, and fortifying one’s own castle while reducing the enemy castle to rubble in each progressive stage.  The enemies are pretty easy to spot, being a fantastic array of monsters, with some challenging extra-monstrous bosses thrown in.  To emerge victorious (and fully clothed), players start by producing food using worker units, increasing resources until they can build an army consisting of knights, snipers, heroes, wizards, and more.

Hero of Sparta II” is $4.99 and from Gameloft that tells a new tale in a legendary setting.  The dedication of the Greek city-state of Sparta to a culture of combat is historical fact, but it’s been raised to the status of legend.  “Hero of Sparta II” mixes history with myth by adding a liberal dose of Greek mythology, and then sets the player loose in this fantasty hack-n-slash as the warrior Argos returns from the Underworld.  The Spartan warrior faces a new set of challenges and ever-more imposing enemies, inviting players to unleash their own inner warrior in incredible combat scenes.

Ikaros” is a $1.99 and from Riverman Media LLC that takes the famous myth of a young man who builds his own wings in order to fly and transforms it into an addictive game experience.  Beautiful 2D animation complements the well-designed gameplay.  Ikaros, better known as Icarus to much of the world, must escape the island of Crete.  In order to do so, he takes flight—but it is a risky endeavor.  Limited flapping ability means that players must time their landings in order to progress.  Along the way, they’ll gather treasure in order to fill Ikaros’s Flight Meter.  In the myth, of course, Icarus does not succeed—but in the game, players have a chance to rewrite history.

Whether it’s one man against gravity, one man against the world, or one man and an army against a mob of pants-stealing monsters, these three games know how to entertain.  iOS mobile apps can be the perfect portal into a more magical, mythical world for players who want to exercise their imagination.

ContactsXL 3 +: iPhone Contact Manager Application

This is a guest post by Mike. If you would like to write for CallingAllgeeks, check our Adsense revenue sharing program.

Doesn’t seem sometimes that the iPhone address book ought to be able to do a lot more than it does? Apparently Jonathon Teboul thought so too, since his name is now on an exciting contact manager replacement in the AppStore.

ContactsXL 3 + Sync is not your average contacts manager.  And it’s not just a pretty skin for the mediocre native app.  When they say it’s full-featured, they mean it.  It’s past time for an app like this, but ContactsXL 3 + Sync makes it worth the wait.

Not only is this contact manager chock full of features, it’s surprisingly streamlined.  Searching for contacts is made infinitely simpler when you can search by using any info you know on the contact card.  Simpler yet?  Set up “smart groups.”  This sweet add-in lets you create rules for as many groups as you want—the awesome part is that the manager will auto-place contacts into groups based on these rules.  Cut down the time you spend managing your contact list and let smart groups do it. Want to find your contact without scrolling a boring list of names or messing with the virtual keyboard? Coverflow, an animated gallery of contact pics, is a unique and fast way to find who’s on your mind.

Another slick feature: Facebook integration.  Add your friends list to your contacts, and let ContactsXL 3 + Sync handle syncing their info to your device.  It’ll also let you check out their profile from a link on their contact card.  The T9 dialer surpasses the iPhone offering too.

Not only is the user-interface designed for maximum intuitive functionality, it also looks good.  Contact pics aren’t just beautifully displayed in Coverflow, they’re also right beside each contact’s name in the address book.

An app that looks good, works great, and offers a ton of features you won’t be able to live without? You’d expect it to be pricey, right? Well, ContactsXL 3 + Sync weighs in at only $0.99… What are you waiting for?

Do let us know if you use any other iPhone app as iPhone contact manager?

3 Free iPhone Games You Should Play For The Weekend

No matter what genre players prefer, there’s a free app in the App Store that will hit the spot.  And with so many fantastic free games just waiting to be played, why would players confine themselves to one genre anyway?  Variety is the spice of life, and it’s also a great way to spice up an iPhone’s game folder.  Check out this list of the very best of the best free iPhone games to find one that’s just right—or try them all out.

Fruit Ninja Lite

Fruit Ninja Lite gives players a chance to test their speed and concentration in a very unusual dojo.  This casual but addictive game has the ninja trainee slashing fresh fruits in mid-air.  As the lite version of a paid app, Fruit Ninja Lite’s features are limited.  But there’s something ever so satisfying about slicing a flying ripe watermelon in half before it hits the ground, and players will be kicking themselves if they pass this fun little free game up.

Goal Battle

Not all free games are just limited previews, though.  Thankfully, some developers have gone all out on their free offerings, and Goal Battle is an excellent iPhone soccer game.  Tight focus, fantastic 3D animation, and gorgeous game play complement Goal Battle’s central attraction: online multiplayer mode.  Players pit their personalized characters against other online players, in a one-on-one goal-kick scoring battle to prove who has what it takes.  It’s a game artfully designed to unlease every player’s competitive side.  Leaderboards track whose scoring abilities are ruling the field, but these are secondary to the heady rush of competing against another player in real time, goal for goal.  Watching one’s opponents progress makes perfecting goal kicking skills that much more enjoyable.  And to really make an impression, players customize their characters to best express themselves or their team spirit.

MyPet CUBY

Looking for a complete change of pace?  My Pet Cuby is a virtual pet that goes about his adorable day in players’ iPhones.  It’s a lot like other virtual pet game options—players keep Cuby’s happiness meter up with pets on the head, games of ball, and of course, by giving him his favorite delicious snacks. But Cuby has a few tricks that are all his own, too.  Players are rewarded for keeping their little pal happy when Cuby demonstrates delightful tricks.  He can sing and play guitar, and horse around with a paper airplane.  And keeping Cuby 100% happy means in-game rewards, like new outfits and environments for the little guy.

This is only a small selection of the free games available in the App Store.  Players can round out their game selection with RPGs, first-person shooters, farming simulations, and practically any other type of game they can think of.  Three of the best are profiled here, but don’t stop there!  Players should get the most from their iPhone gaming experience not by finding the perfect game, but by finding five… or ten… or twenty games that they can’t put down!

Finger Stomp iPhone App Lets You Make Street Music

Do you remember when you were young, and you could entertain yourself with something as simple as beating on a trashcan or drumming on a hub cap in your garage?  Well, the makers of the new iPhone app Finger Stomp have succeeded in bringing back all the old-fashioned fun of banging on junk and put it in the palm of your hand.

Finger Stomp

Long-time users of the iPhone have most likely seen the many beat-creation apps released throughout the years, but few can match the authenticity of Fingerstomp.  When you first open the app, you’re placed in a dimly lit garage with a variety of metallic objects which, when touched, produce a sound similar to the virtual object’s real world counterpart.  In addition to the starting equipment, Finger Stompallows users to customize their own personal stage by selecting from 22 different objects and two backdrops, including the original garage stage and a basketball court.

Now here’s the fun part: users are able to not only coordinate the sounds to produce original, quality-sounding beats, but they can then record those beats for later listening and even export them.  For those who need a little bit of help with their rhythm, the game offers a practice mode in which players can follow along to a number of pre-made beats using the many objects at their disposal.  Additionally, sounds can be tweaked by the user to fit just about any style.

There are plenty of rhythm games out there on the iPhone, but the main problem with many of them is the poor touch response, which often makes it difficult to produce any kind of complicated beat.  Fortunately, this is not the case with Finger Stomp.  Users will enjoy the amazing responsiveness of the interactive touch controls, which not only provide instant feedback but also allow beat-makers to use up to three sounds at once, which is ideal for producing intricate, multi-dimensional beats.

As far as graphics and audio go, Fingerstomp is a huge success.  Whether it’s the authentic-looking, fully-animated objects and realistic backgrounds or the high-quality sounds produced by each item, the game delivers on all fronts. To add, the inclusion of the Drum Meister beat engine ensures that every beat produced will be totally fluid and achieve exactly what the user has in mind.

In the end,Fingerstomp has everything you need to synthesize your own quality custom beats using the same kinds of sounds utilized by the band Stomp. The app store price of $2.99 (iPad) may be a little steep for those iPad users on a budget, but the iPhone version is just $.99. In my opinion this app is a must-have for old-school fans of hip-hop, rap, and street music.

Starfront: Collision iPhone Game Review

If you loved Starcraft for the PC and Mac you’ll love Gameloft’s latest incarnation for the iTunes Apstore. Starfront: Collision is an RTS game that takes the player onto the planet Sinistral, where an epic battle begins over control of the rare Xenodium crystals.

Starfront’s game mechanics are very similar to any RTS game. You’ll begin each map with only a few units and will need to mine for resources to build up your home base. Once you start collecting enough resources you’ll be able to build more structures, and subsequently train and upgrade battle units to destroy your enemy.

A big chunk of the game will be spent in the campaign mode with up to three playable races. You will begin as the Consortium. They are humans who land on Sinistral to mine for the Xenodium crystals. Soon you will take the role of the indigenous insect-like Myriad who is trying to stop the Consortium. Finally the advanced-robotic Warden race will appear to try to manipulate things in their own favor.  Each race is equally balanced and will have different set of upgrades and army units that will give them their own unique feel.

Controls are intuitive and easy to use. Just tap on the screen and drag to pan the area and pinch your fingers to select multiple units. After you select your units you can tap to force them to attack or tap and hold for them to move without attacking. There is also a sidebar that will be used to build structures. Actions were performed with ease and I was surprised that I could do everything on my iPhone as if it was a computer. Some of you may be worried about the iPhone’s small screen as it does hinder gameplay. But Gameloft ingeniously created the controls so that nothing seemed cluttered at all.

In addition to the campaign mode, there is also a single-player skirmish mode and an exciting multiplayer mode. The skirmish mode will feature seven different maps for you to play against any of the three races. Multiplayer mode was my favorite and can support up to four players on of five different maps.

The graphics are stunning and vivid. Starfront takes advantages of the iPhone’s Retina Display and presents beautifully 3-D rendered environments. Gameplay is not laggy and is incredibly smooth which makes me wonder how they fit everything into such a small package. As with other Gameloft titles, music design is excellent and features an orchestra soundtrack that makes the gameplay feel epic.

Starfront: Collision is a must have for RTS fans. The game is intriguing and exciting and with multiplayer options it raises the gameplay value immensely.

Currently, Starfront: Collision is available as a free download but players can only play one campaign mission. If you want to continue playing you will have to shell out $6.99 via in-app purchase but with that price you’ll unlock all the campaign missions (17 in total), skirmish mode and the online multiplayer mode.

iPhone/iPad Game App Review: Dead Space

Dead Space™ is a sci-fi action game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. This game features enough blood and violence to make any FPS gamer satisfied. While some people stated that this game was frightening, it was far from it. However, blood drenched corpses will fall from the corridors and the dark atmosphere should be enough for some of the more casual gamers to tremble.

You are Vandal who is left alone to fend for himself as menacing alien beings called Necromorphs try to attack and eat you for dinner.  If you have experience playing any third person shooter for the iOS device then you should have no problem navigating through this game. You will use the left side of the screen to either run, or walk and the right side of the screen will be used for aiming and controlling your point of view.

Those who are familiar with the console version should see recognizable abilities and weapons. You will have several weapons such as the plasma saw along with gadgets like the kinesis and stasis module.  Kinesis will use some kind of laser type force to pick up and throw objects that you normally couldn’t do with your own strength. And the stasis module is also available and will allow you to form a force field around a Necromorph, essentially paralyzing it and leaving it open for you to gleefully kill.

The game offers eleven exciting chapters which should take from anywhere between 4-10 hours. The game is full of suspense and you might notice your pulse rising just a bit. The graphics are beautiful and the sound effects are really realistic. Those who actually watch the cut scenes will also be satisfied with the voice over’s. This game is really an excellent FPS game and those who are a fan of them will definitely need to check this game out!. The cost of this game is $6.99.
