Droid 2 a.k.a Motorola Droid X : Review

The much awaited Motorola Droid X a.k.a Droid 2 is outed and ready for review and other formal announcements about pricing and availability. The android 2.1 powered Droid X will be carried by Verizon like its earlier version. Coming to the package, the Droid X is undoubtedly one of the best Android Smartphone to have in already competitive field with the advent of iPhone 4 and EVO 4G.

A lot of similarities exist between the earlier droid and this Smartphone but there are lots of good features it has packed additionally within a year that needs a mention. The Smartphone features a 4.4-inch, FWVGA 854 x 480-resolution capacitive screen which again is “OK” if you overlook the ordinary screen resolution.

The new Droid gets some serious attention on improving its multimedia features. The phone has got a new  Blockbuster application, DLNA type app, separate HDMI dock and is loaded with a new MotoBlur kind of skin which helps you shift between various multimedia channels.

The 8-megapixel camera records video at 720p which again is a disappointment to me as HD video recording would correctly befit the big android Smartphone. Finally Droid gets the much needed multi-touch virtual keyboard and it preloads Swype when the keyboard is triggered for action.

Motorola Droid X  got a competitive processor this time around. With 1GHz ARMv7 processor sitting at its heart you must expect a snappy performance. The memory option is just 8GB and that again is a kind of a less in my opinion. The Smartphone also has kind of battery management software to keep your Droid running for long hours before the need to pack juice reappears.

Droid X Review Summary

Overall the new Droid packs a punch in few areas like multimedia and performance but suffers badly when coming to screen resolution and video recording when compared to its competitors. Motorola Droid X would be great competitor to Evo 4G head on but it being the gadget of the year like the one last is a big doubt.

The phone will run on Google android 2.1 when bought and can be updated to higher versions later. The other noteworthy feature of this device is the 8 megapixel auto-focus camera with flash and HD video recording.

The battery life is good enough to play full length movies on the projector, thanks to its 1,800mAH battery. Phone buyers will have 4 memory storage options to buy from which includes 4Gb, 2Gb, 1Gb or 16Gb.
