The much awaited jailbreak for iOS 5 beta is now live. Redsn0w has been updated to jailbreak iOS 5.0b1 on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad 1. However, the jailbreak is tethered at the moment and will require you to use Redsn0w every time iPhone restarts.
At the moment the iOS 5 jailbreak is available for Mac users only but a windows version will be released soon too. The WWDC event has come to an end and the jailbreak release is in great timing for developers to play with since they are free now.
Once again we are warning all iPhone unlockers to stay away from iOS 5 since their baseband will be irreversibly upgraded if they upgrade iOS 4 to iOS 5. You must also save your SHSH using TinyUmbrella so that it is possible to downgrade back to iOS 4 later.
So here’s the list of devices which support the iOS 5 jailbreak:
- iPod touch 3G
- iPod touch 4G
- iPad 1
- iPhone4 (GSM)
- iPhone4 (CDMA)
No jailbreak for iPad 2 so far.
Please note that you still need to have a valid UDID registration and redsn0w will not hacktivate your device on iOS 5 beta 1. We have already posted a guide to install iOS 5 beta and will also be posting how to jailbreak iOS 5 tutorial soon.
You can download redsn0w version 0.9.8b1 for Mac here.
