And here I was waiting for the iPhone 5 to be announced! Shocking news hits the world today, Apple’s CEO and one of the most powerful men in the world, Steve Jobs, has resigned from the company. The man who got Apple Inc. back on it’s feet during it’s dark days and has a major role in making it a very successful and one of the top companies in the world, even more wealthier than the US government for heaven’s sake.
Steve Jobs has decided to resign from his post as CEO and let acting-CEO Tim Cooks to take over as permanent CEO. He has posted his resignation letter to Apple’s Board of Directors asking to make Tim Cooks as the CEO of the company, whereas he’ll still be around as the company board’s Chairman.
If you remember, it was Mr.Jobs who turned around the the falling Apple Inc. and made it in to something else, with a basket full of successful products and softwares like Macintosh, iMac, iPod, iPhone, Macbook and iPads. He’s known to have been one of the most influential people in the world and the world looks up to him when it comes to innovation, creativity and leadership. However, it’s not like he’s dying or quitting Apple. He’ll still be watching over the company from his Chairman seat and still ordering his team to take the company ahead.
He’s had some issues with his health as well and is known to take lots of medical leaves for operations such as Liver transplant. He was also diagnosed for Pancreatic cancer, which was later treated. This news surely doesn’t mean that something has gone wrong with his health as he has clearly stated that he will be watching over the most valuable company in the world.
Below is his complete resignation letter as posted on Apple blog;
CUPERTINO, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)— To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:
I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.
I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.
As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.
I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.
He has and will remain a great icon and idol in the tech industry, transforming the way we use technology, it’s application and much more. We wish best of luck to him and his life ahead. We also hope the iPhone 5 will be released soon and won’t face any delays due to this!!
