Earlier today, Sony Ericsson went ahead two new phones for their Xperia line-up, and named them Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro. I will be talking about the phones later, but many of you when you read the title or then first few lines of the post will wonder if I’ve gone mad and probably comment saying ‘This is old news, old phones’ or something like that. I won’t be surprised, because it happened to me too. Fortunately enough, this isn’t old news!!
Sony Ericsson has named it’s latest edition of Android phones as Xperia Mini and Mini Pro, I’m pretty sure those names ring a bell. Don’t they? Yes, the Xperia X10 Mini and the Mini Pro were also given the same suffixes. It’s confusing don’t you think? Anyways, lets leave that behind and concentrate on what the Xperia Mini and the Mini Pro has to offer. The Xperia Mini Pro is the obvious one to be given the slide-out keyboard.
I’m a big fan of the Xperia Series, well I only liked the X1, but that’s not the point. All the Xperia phones, the Xperia Arc, Play, X10 and all of them are really good phones and also good looking. That’s however not the case with the Xperia Mini and Mini Pro.
What Sony Ericsson has tried to do here is rebuild the X1(my opinion) and give it a new look. Both these phones come with a 3-inch screen and despite their compact form are quite thick, similar to the X1, but are styled according to the new range of Xperia phones.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini and the Xperia Mini Pro
The Xperia Mini looks similar to the Xperia X10 Mini, but performs much better thanks to some good hardware. The Xperia Mini Pro also looks similar to the X10 Mini Pro but is bigger and again more powerful. Both of these phones have the exact similar hardware and specifications, the only dissimilarity is that the Xperia Mini Pro has a front facing camera and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Following are the specifications:
- 1 GHz Processor
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS
- 3-inch Reality Display with Bravia Engine, 320 x 480 pixels
- 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD video-recording capability
- 512MB of RAM
- 320mb Internal storage expandable to 32GB via microSD
Both these phones will be available some time in August 2011. No word on the pricing yet, but looks like they won’t be cheap. We’ll update you soon if we hear anything.
