There are plenty of apps available on the Mac App Store, but there aren’t quite a lot of Windows apps on there. Certain users who’ve recently moved over to the Mac, will definitely miss some basic Windows applications. Now, there are ways to make your Mac desktop or laptop run Windows OS altogether, but I’m pretty sure many of them don’t want to try that. Also, there are many games and useful software that are only Windows compatible, hence, the need to use them may arise.

SO, if you’re looking for an alternative way to run all those useful apps and tools without installing Windows on your Mac, then look no more. This useful app available on the Mac App Store, called WinOnX, will let you run Windows software on Mac OS X without having to install Windows on your system. There are loads of apps available for Windows, but not so many for Mac, plus most apps that are used by all of us aren’t available for the Mac. Take for example, Windows Live Writer. It’s a great blogging tool and many bloggers use it, wouldn’t it be nice if you could run it on your Mac as well. It’s very easy to install and start using WinOnX.
- Download the app from the Mac App Store.
- Download the .exe setup file of the Windows application that you want to run.
- Look for the downloaded files using the WinOnX app, install it and use it like you would on your Windows machine.
That’s pretty much it. No need to install Windows using Bootcamp or run it as Virtual system, this method is far simpler and works as explained. We cannot assure if all those Windows games work, but the other software should run fine. And since this is such a useful app, it’s not free. You would have to shell $4.99 for the app, but it’s definitely worth the money. Also, you’ll need to be running Mac OS X 10.6 or greater to run this app.
