We told you yesterday on How-to get the Facebook for iPad, which was nicely hidden within the iPhone app. There was this nice little trick that could bring it from the dead and at first it worked, but then Mr. Mark realized that his iPad app was leaked and started blocking it all together. So, the app turned out to not work for people who tried to perform the hack today and also it wasn’t allowing users to log in. It had been blocked.

So, if you’re stuck with the beautiful Facebook app on your iPad and aren’t able to use it, then follow this tutorial to make it work again. To do this, you’ll need to have a jailbroken iPad. That’s all you need. If you haven’t jailbroken your iPad 2 then follow this tutorial here. If you don’t have Facebook app installed on your iPad, then download the Facebook for iPhone and sit tight, I mean follow the steps below;

  • First of all, you’ll need to make your way to Cydia>Sections>Tweaks and search for an app called FaceForward. If you don’t see it the first time, it’s best that you hit the refresh button. You should be able to see it now.

  • Select FaceForward and then Install it. It’s a really small file and will only take about 7 seconds. Once it’s installed, it’ll ask you to Restart your SpringBoard. Do as it says and your iPad will go blank and get back to the Homescreen.

  • Now, Open the Facebook App and you should be able to login without any problems.

Facebook will probably patch this hack in future updates, but until then you can enjoy the amazing Facebook app for iPad.

Are you using the Facebook app on your iPad yet? Have you tried this trick?

Looks like now Apple is on an iOS update spree, last week the OS X Lion and other updates and now another iOS firmware update. Apple just released iOS 4.3.5 for iPhone 4, iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone 3GS and iOS 4.2.10 for iPhone 4 CDMA, which fixes a certain security issue. It was also only a few days ago that Apple released iOS 5 beta 4 which brought along a major OTA update to iOS 5.

iOS 4.3.4, which was also released last week, had patched the popular Jailbreak method from JailbreakMe. And this new update has nothing much to say about itself, but points that it fixes a certificate verification issue with the previous one. Along with this update, Apple has also released iOS 4.2.10 for the Verizon iPhone 4, which also corrects the same certificate verification problem. There’s not much information on these updates. All of the updates can be directly downloaded from Apple’s servers. You’ll find the direct download links down below.

However, this version can be jailbroken using the latest RedSn0w tool, but will only boot tethered. All you have to do, is point RedSn0w to iOS 4.3.4 and your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1 and iPod Touch 3G/4G will be jailbroken.

If you don’t want to lose your untethered jailbreak, then you should probably stay away from this and the last update.

Opening Zip and Rar archives are a great way to reduce the file size and share them with your friends. But it can be a bit of hassle if you don’t have any software installed to open archive files and if it is from unknown sources, it is better not to open them on your PC or find any tool to open it without downloading it on your computer. To solve this problem, we came across an excellent Google Chrome extension, Gdocs.

Gdocs is a useful Google Chrome extension which enables users open Zip and RAR files right inside the browser via Google Docs, without even downloading the file. Installing the extension is pretty simple and straight forward. Just head over to the download page and install the extension. After installing the extension, you will notice another option in the right click menu, “Open with Google Docs” which will help you extract zip files and open those file formats which are support ed by Google Docs. You can download any specific file you want to.

To open any archive, just right click on the link and click on Open With Google Docs and it will give you the preview of the entire archive and the number of files in it.

This will open the archive file in Google Docs. Now, you can either download the file to your PC or save It on Google Docs if it supports that format. However, the extension only works with direct links and not any redirecting links. For example, if you try to use it on any rapidshare or any other free file hosting link, it will not open that file.

Nonetheless, GDocs is a useful extension which every Google Chrome user should try if they work with archives a lot.

cocoon-1Online security is one of the most important things for users browsing the web. This is because when we browse, many websites leave cookies in order to serve targeted advertisements. Those cookies can easily infect the computers with viruses and malwares, and may access our computers without our knowledge. To protect users from this, we came across an excellent addon for Firefox, Cocoon.

Cocoon is a useful security addon for Mozilla Firefox which helps users browse the web securely and protects your privacy. Installing Cocoon is simple and easy, all you have to do is sign up for an account and you will receive the download link in your inbox. Open the link, create an account on Cocoon and install the extension. After the extension is installed, a new toolbar will appear in Mozilla Firefox where you can login to your Cocoon account and manage different settings.

The extension protects your privacy by blocking websites from collecting data from your browser. When you browse after logging in to your Cocoon account, the websites collects data from Cocoon’s computers rather than your own PC. Apart from that, users can easily create multiple email addresses using Cocoon to protect them from spam. You can easily manage those created accounts and delete them easily if you are not using them. One thing which I like about Cocoon is its portability. You can easily access your browsing history on any computer by logging in to you Cocoon account. All you browser settings are saved online so that it can be accessed anywhere you go.

If you are a Firefox user and really care about the websites you browse, you should give Cocoon a try.

Sometimes logging into websites becomes a very hectic and a painful task, so Mozilla Labs have launched an online system in its beta phase called as BrowserID that will eventually make this painful process of logging into websites a piece of cake. Here is a run down of this innovative tool:

What is BrowserID?

Basically it’s a cross platform web-based tool that allows users to login onto any of the supported websites with just a simple verification of a pre-designated email ID. This means that you don’t have to remember or type passwords again and again, if the site you are trying to login supports BrowserID then you can get-in with just a single click.

BrowserID A Better Way to Sign In

Mozilla has in detail explained that how this new innovative online system works, the system holds good for all the developers, end users and any kind of identity providers. Moreover, best part is that it’s a universal login system that is valid for all the web browsers and supporting websites.

How to Signup?

You can signup for the website using FavoriteBeer, a demo site tagged with BrowserID. Just open the site and click on “Sign-in”, a signup process will initiate that you will have to complete. You just have to verify you email address and then you are all set to go. The process is same for all the BrowserID supported sites.

For the techie readers, the BrowserID uses what is called as Virtual Email Protocol, a procedure that a user employs to tell a website that they control a particular email ID through any of the available internet browser.

Though you can find numerous offline password manager softwares but most of these don’t work as they are suppose to. So BrowserID will indeed be a great alternative to the existing password systems.

Portable Hard Drives are not unknown to people these days. Portable Hard Drives are now available with much higher storage and much better features. That is the reason I decided to write this post. To help you guys to choose the best portable hard drive available in India. This topic was in my mind from the last week. I surfed the web, I read many articles and then I read a “Hard Drives Comparison” in a tech magazine. I had all the information I required to write this post so that’s why you are seeing this post.

It isn’t just the thing of today that people want more. People definitely want more and the storage is definitely not left when people want more. People want more storage and that’s when these portable hard drives come into play. They are cheaper, elegant and of course more portable than the internal hard drives. Portable Hard Drives can give you different options from 250 GB to 1.5 GB. The best hard drives providing companies would be SeaGate and Transcend. It certainly took me sometime to browse and search for the top 3 portable hard drives available in India but I am able to present you with them. Read on!

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro

Seagate, as mentioned above, is one of the best portable hard drive provider and this portable hard drive is totally a mixture of OK price and high features. The price, in my opinion, is just a little higher. I assume Seagate is just using its brand name to price a little higher. Moving on, this portable device is certainly a great buy when you are looking for a trusted portable hard drive. Below are the specifications.

Drive Capacity : 500 Gigabytes

Dimensions : 80 x 15 x 127 mm

Weight : 174.5 grams

Connector Type : Mini USB

Docking : Yes

Warranty : 3 years

Price : Rs. 5,999

Other than the price, Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro is a top-class portable hard drive which should be the first choice if you are searching for a portable hard drive.

Transcend StoreJet 25H2

Transcend StoreJet 25H2 is my favorite hard disk from the ones I considered for this article. It definitely defeats the hard disk listed above because it gives 500GB more drive capacity(as compared to the above one) for just Rs. 1660 extra. Transcend StoreJet c0mbines reasonable price and amazing features. All of it can just force you to buy this hard disk. Keep reading for the specifications.

Drive Capacity : 1000Gigabytes(1 Terabyte)

Dimensions : 80 x 22 x 128 mm

Weight : 258 grams

Connector Type : Mini USB

Docking : No

Warranty : 3 years

Price : Rs. 7,360

Seeing the specifications, this hard drive is totally a must buy. The price is fine and the specifications are great. So, buy this one if you have the budget and are looking for such a hard drive.

Silicon Power Stream S10

This one is a nice hard drive. Not too good and not too bad. My opinion about this hard drive was, when I read the specs for the first time, that this hard drive is below average. But after reading some reviews of this hard drive, I found out that it performs a lot well than expected. The low and affordable price just adds to the plus points of this hard drive. Value for money is great. The specs are nice as well. See them below.

Drive Capacity : 640 GB

Dimensions : 78 x 16 x 133 mm

Weight : 149.5 grams

Connector Type : USB 3.0

Docking : No

Warranty : 1 year

Price : Rs. 4,550

The best things in Silicon Power Stream S10 in my opinion is the 640 GB capacity for Rs. 4550, USB 3.0 and the lightweight, 149.5 grams. The only thing which I found bad was less warranty period. The 1st and 2nd hard drives in this list have 3 year warranty as opposed to 1 year warranty for this hard drive. But, I guess the price covers it all.

So, those were the top 3 portable hard drives below Rs. 8,000. My pick is Transcend StoreJet 25H2. Which is your favorite in these three? Which one would you like to buy? Do comment.

Apple has, quite surprisingly, released iOS 5 beta 4 in such a short period of time. The last update, iOS 5 beta 3, was only issued about a week back, maybe more and there’s already a new one. Apple, earlier today, seeded a new beta of iOS 5 to the developers, which brings the much awaited over-the-air software updates to iOS.

The last update was released to the developers on July 11, but this new update doesn’t bring much new things to the table. However, it does bring something quite important and useful for all iOS users. Remember, Over the Air Software Updates, the easier way to update your firmware without the need to download those 700-800mb ipsw files. As of now, that’s about the only new thing with this update, which isn’t heavy at all. To update your iOS 5 beta to beta 4 all you need to do is go to Settings>General>Software Update. If you can’t see the update then you could also download it from the developers site. You can also download iOS 5 beta 4 with the Direct Links provided at the end. This is how the OTA updates look like:

<Image Credit>

To support the OTA update, Apple has also released an update for iTunes 10.5 beta. The beta 4 is required to perform the over the air update, without which you’ll have to resort to your developers account or the direct download links. The amazing thing about the OTA update is it’s size. It only weighs 133 mb, whereas the regular .ipsw file is around 800 Mb.

Google Plus, Google’s recently announced social network, is currently being tested by select users as a beta project. In what is common with web-based software, the beta version of the platform was released to testers with limited features as well as basic security and privacy features. According to various reports online, a significant flaw in the privacy settings has already been identified.

Content Exposed Through Resharing

Like most of the popular social networks these days, Google Plus is designed to allow users to share and reshare content. The platform is equipped with a unique component known as Circles, a feature that allows users to separate their friends by criteria such as relatives, co-workers, and classmates. Unfortunately, all the content you share with your circle can be shared with the people in their circle, essentially meaning that your status updates, photos, videos, and other content can be exposed to complete strangers.

Since the beta version apparently does not have an option that allows you to restrict who reshares your content with others, those passing along sensitive information could possibly have concerns over this feature. However, Google has come up with a quick fix to counter the early critics. A BusinessInsider article showed that the company included a dialog box explaining to the user that the original post was shared with an exclusive audience and warning them to share the content responsibly. While disabling the reshare feature may have been a better move in the eyes of some observers, whether or not this approach will suffice when the project goes live is something that remains to be seen.

Big Deal or No Big Deal?

The Google Plus flaw was reportedly first spotted by Tim Bradshaw, journalist and Digital Media Correspondent for London’s Financial Times. According to Bradshaw, this flaw is no where near as serious as the hole that resulted in Google having to shell out a hefty sum to settle a legal dispute over the Buzz privacy fiasco. The Plus issue certainly does not seem to be a big deal at this point when considering that the product is being tested and such flaws can easily be addressed before the official launch. Additionally, while Google should certainly be held responsible for making sure users know how the platform works, it is ultimately up to the user to know just how public social sharing can be. Regardless of what mechanisms are in place, anything you share online can technically be shared with others.

Google has been trying to make a huge splash in the social space for some time, and may finally succeed with Plus. Due to its less than stellar track record, all eyes will certainly be on the internet powerhouse every step of the way. There does not appear to be any major privacy concerns in the early goings, but hopefully for Google’s sake this is not a sign indicative of the search giant getting in the way of its own success once again.

In past, we covered few tools and extensions which can be used to convert different web pages to PDF files so that they can be read offline. Today, we came across another useful tool, JoliPrint which can help users convert different web pages and blog articles into simple PDF files. The reason why many people prefer to do this is because these days, many blogs are using so much ads that its not convenient for the user to read the content.

Using the tool is really simple and straight forward. If you want to convert any blog post or web page into PDF file, just paste the URL of that website in the field provided and click on “JoliPrint It” button and it will start the conversion process.

Once the web page is converted into PDF, it will give you the option to either download the PDF file or share it on different social networks including Facebook and Twitter or email to any friend or family.

If you like this service, you can install its browser extension so that you don’t have to open the site every time you want to convert any article to PDF. There are many cloud services available online which can be used to make backups online. But the main issue with most cloud services is that they offer very less storage space. To get rid of this problem, we came across an excellent service, Cloud.CM.

Cloud.CM is a free which enables users to store and backup their data online so that you can access the files anywhere and from any PC or smartphone. With Cloud.CM, users get storage of up to 5GB and any file type can be uploaded with ease. You can even stream uploaded audio files using Cloud.CM media player. You can even link different social media networks with you Cloud.CM account

Using the service requires you to create an account which is free. Simply fill in the details in the registration form and it will create your account. Once the account is created, you must verify it as well so make sure you type the correct email address.

Once the registration is complete, you will be redirected to your dashboard where you can easily setup your profile, update documents, music and other files. One thing which I really like about this service is that you can add your friends and other Cloud.CM users to your friends list and share different files with them. You can even access the files uploaded by other users given that they share them with you.

In order to upload the files, click on My Files icon in the taskbar and upload any type of file you want.

This is not it, you can even do video chat with your online Cloud.CM friends, join different chat rooms to talk to people from different parts of the world. If you want to upload different files on the go, you can install Cloud.CM android app which allows users to manage their account anywhere they go.

In conclusion, I must say that Cloud.CM is an excellent online service which people can use to store and share files in the cloud and want to access them on the go.
