If you happen to be a music enthusiast and like to listen to new music, then you must have a music player tucked away in your pocket. Almost 60 percent chances are that it’s going to be an Apple music player, if not, it could be a Sony, Philips, Cowon or some other. There’s a very small chance that’s it going be one of Microsoft’s Zune player. And, for the same reason, Microsoft has finally given official word that all Zune products are henceforth discontinued.

Oh, and guess what? The Apple iPhone event is just about to begin. A coincidence that Microsoft all of a sudden decided to kill Zune products? I mean, it was reported earlier that Microsoft will be going to halt production, but there was not much information on when or why. Here’s the official statement on Microsoft’s Zune page;

We recently announced that, going forward, Windows Phone will be the focus of our mobile music and video strategy, and that we will no longer be producing Zune players. So what does this mean for our current Zune users? Absolutely nothing. Your device will continue to work with Zune services just as it does today. And we will continue to honor the warranties of all devices for both current owners and those who buy our very last devices. Customer service has been, and will remain a top priority for us.

As the statement says, users who already have bought or have ordered new Zune HD players, will be eligible for warranty and repair, but only till stocks last. The Zune software is not going to be affected for any user and more importance will be given to the budding operating system, Windows Phone 7.

Are you Zune HD owner? What are your thoughts on this move by Microsoft? That too on the day Apple is releasing a new iPhone.

Note: You can see  Apple iPhone 4th October event live here.

Okay, when I say watch Apple iPhone 5 event live online, I don’t mean live streaming, because Apple has never let that happen. Never in the Apple keynote/event history has Apple ever streamed them live online. And it’s the same this time around too, but there are lot of places that will literally stream the event, live blogging style. Many blogs such as Engadget, Wired, MacRumors etc will be live blogging from the event so that we loyal Apple fanboys aren’t sitting at home cutting ourselves.

Today is October 4 2011 and this is most likely one of the most anticipated events of the year 2011, with people all over the world eagerly waiting for Apple to announce the next iPhone. There have been lot of rumors that it might just be the iPhone 4S, but there have been even stronger rumors and leaks and some vaguely confirmed reports that it could be the iPhone 5. All we can do now is hope that we won’t be disappointed, neither by the product being launched or Tim Cook’s keynote. No Steve Jobs this time.

Here are some of the websites that will be covering the whole event live, obviously our dear old Engadget is top on the list so do follow them;

If you’re lucky enough, Apple will post the keynotes as soon as they’re done at their official Apple Events page. So, adjust your clocks to the following Time zones if you’re not in the same zones as listed.
07:00AM - Hawaii
10:00AM - Pacific
11:00AM - Mountain
12:00PM - Central
01:00PM - Eastern
06:00PM - London
07:00PM - Paris
09:00PM - Moscow
02:00AM - Tokyo (October 5th)
How many of you are excited? Any thoughts about what you think is going to happen at the event?

Imagine you’re travelling out of the country or state and do not want to be tied up with the stupid roaming charges for every call you make or text message you send. You’d obviously want to use a local SIM card and not bear any roaming charges. However, there aren’t many smartphones around that have the feature to accommodate dual SIMs. Though, there are many accessories that will turn your mobile phone into a dual SIM one, not many of them are easy on your devices.

Here’s a product by the makers of the Rebel SIM, that wirelessly adds another SIM to your smartphone. Yes, the G-Mate Dual SIM Bluetooth kit enables your device to have a second SIM and use all it’s features without having to switch SIM cards. The best part, it works on both iPhone and Android devices. Since it works over an active bluetooth connection, it works perfectly on both iOS and Android. A second SIM card is really going to boost your smartphones performance as you can use it for it’s 3G access or when you’re out of credit on one or the other just stops working.

You will however, need to jailbreak your iOS device and install a certain app for the G-Mate Dual SIM to pair with your device. Once, both are paired you can launch the app and use it’s interface to sync all your contacts so that you can use the second SIM right away, and that too over your first SIM. For more instructions on how to set the whole thing up, follow the instructions over at Rebel SIM. You can also watch this video to see it in action.

The same goes for almost all the Android mobile devices that have Bluetooth. You can also use this on tablets and iPad. Now, this is where I’ll be talking about the price of the G-Mate Dual SIM Bluetooth Kit, which is not cheap. It’ll cost you about $110. If you believe you need this very badly, then you can order yourself one from over here.

Are you a music lover? Love listening to music? Can’t live without music? I’m sure if you’re such a type of person, then you’d obviously want to listen to new music, instead of listening to the same old tracks over and over again. The process to find new music, new albums, tracks by your favorite bands or new and upcoming bands, is not easy.

You literally have to scavenge the internet in search of new music, then find out if you like them and if they’re of your favorite genre. We all know that people who can’t live without music, like me, are really lazy. So if I’m on a mission to look for new music, the process usually involves asking friends, googling, checking the top lists and etc. At the end, I’m left with about 10 songs. Wouldn’t it be awesome if there was an app to do all the work for you? Well, there’s an app for that and it’s called GimmeMusic.

GimmeMusic is an iOS application, that is available for free on the App Store, which gives you a new list of songs every day or whenever you launch the app. It doesn’t discover music based on what you like, instead it just gives you a list that has some new songs. If you don’t like a song, you can just swipe to delete it and move on. If you liked a song, you can either listen to it on the app, check out more songs by the artist or buy it from iTunes. So, it’s not going to discover your type of music, but it does discover some nice tracks, I got some slick tunes from Rapture when I first fired it up.

Since this app is free, what it does is really great. You don’t have to pay for streaming songs or anything and you don’t have to manually search for music. The app keeps adding new songs to the list, so you can listen to them and decide yourself. A really useful app for any music lover on the face of the Earth, with an iOS device of course.

Download GimmeMusic now and tell us what you think about it.

You know those times, when you’re in a situation where you badly want to take a picture but can’t because it’s not allowed or because your camera will make a noise. Well, now you can accomplish such secret missions using your iOS device and become a successfully spy or even get recruited by the FIA. Here’s a new jailbreak app for iOS devices called SpyPhoto, that lets you take pictures without anyone knowing about it and over any running app. You don’t even have to launch the camera app to get this done. Pretty cool right?

There’s one drawback, however, as sometimes the images may not be saved to your photo album. But, the developer is working on it and the updated version should be out pretty soon. For now, let’s talk about this tweaks features and where to get it from.

SpyPhoto is a cydia app, hence requiring a jailbroken iOS device, so if you’re device is not jailbroken, then you should probably get to it. That said, you’ll need to navigate to the BigBoss repo or look for recent changes in Cydia to find this tweak. Let’s talk about it’s features then. This tweak lets you take photos using finger gestures such as double tap the status bar etc. It basically uses the Activator function to get that done.

You not only have the choice to choose either the front or back camera, but also to use it over any app. For example, if you’re sitting with a Mafia and he’s in disguise, then you can start playing a game and use the gesture to get his photo taken, without anyone noticing. Go to the cops and you’ll be rewarded well, I hope. Two different gestures can be set for both the back and the front camera. Cool features don’t you think? Watch the app in action after the break.

Oh, last, but not the least. SpyPhoto is a paid cydia tweak and costs $1.50, which I believe is pretty good. So are you getting this app? Spy anyone?

Song recognition apps are a must on any smartphone as it really helps you recognize music that you like. However, if you have a limited number of times that you can track a song, then that is not cool. So, if you’ve been using the free version of Shazam, you’d know what I’m talking about.

If you haven’t figured out what I’m talking about, I’d like to help. Shazam is one among the best song recognition applications used around the world that finds and matches music by listening to it. If you’re out in a club, party or a place were music is playing and you really like the song, but don’t know the artist or the name of the song. What do you do? Well, you can turn on Shazam and it’ll tell you what song is playing, all you need is a working data connection. That’s it.

The free version of Shazam, until now, let you tag only 5 songs, you’d have to purchase the paid version called Shazam Encore to enjoy unlimited song tagging. But, now they’ve added unlimited song tagging on the free version too, which is pretty awesome. Another such app, which provides unlimited song tagging is SoundHound, which is also pretty good.

Now with unlimited tagging. Shazam for more music, more lyrics, more everything. No limits.

Shazam for Android has always been free, and now iOS users can enjoy the unlimited freedom that the updated version provides. If you’ve already updated then you should see that you have unlimited tagging enabled by default. You will, however, notice ads now, which is not a biggie. This is one of those applications that you should always have on your iPhone, as you never know when you’d be treated to awesome music and will want to know what’s playing.

You can download Shazam for free from the App Store.

If you haven’t tried Shazam yet, I bet you’re one of those who ransack their friends hard disk for new music. Grow up.
