The newly launched iPhone 4S has better audio quality and louder speakers than the iPhone 4, which was a much needed improvement. The iPhone 4 speaker isn’t loud compared to other phones in the market and that is not a good thing. It’s only obvious that you’ll now try to look for ways to make your iPhone 4 sound as loud as the iPhone 4S. Well, there’s an App for that.

MyTunes is a free iOS app that works best with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and 3rd/4th gen iPod Touch and helps make your music sound better. If you thought that this app could change the overall sound quality and volume of your device, you are mistaken. And, since this an app that’s still under development, don’t be alarmed when it suddenly crashes, lags or doesn’t open at all. I’ve experienced few bugs myself, but the overall experience certainly makes this app worth the download.

There’s something else that’ll make you want to download this app, it’s developed by SRS Labs. I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of them, the guys who brought us the SRS WOW audio enhancer for Windows. They already have a hardware audio dongle for the iPhone and iPod Touch that enhances and increases the volume of your device. But, this is another achievement for the team as it’s one of the very first audio enhancer app for the iPhone that actually does improve sound quality and is pretty close to the hardware dongle. Check out some screenshots from the app below;

The built in Equalizer works quite well and delivers good quality music to your ears. You can select various presets or create your own custom ones.

The Player looks like this, I know it’s not the best looking, but it does the job. You can select the SRS button to get access to other settings like turning on the WOW effect, Equalizer, Normalize Audio etc. To get access to all the settings and features, you’ll have to make an in-app purchase of $4.99. But, you can test all the features for ten minutes before you make the purchase.

This app doesn’t let you play videos, only regular MP3 or AAC tracks will work properly. Also, this app isn’t intended for iPhone 3G or iPad, though an iPad specific app is under development. You can try this app for free and let us know how it worked for you.

Download MyTunes by SRS from the App Store.

When it comes to speaker volumes and how loud your mobile device is, the iPhone 4 literally sucked. As an iPhone user I can guarantee you, that unless you have your earphones with you, listening to music in the open is pointless. Also the speaker phone, is just as bad out in the open, unless you’re in a peaceful and quiet place. The volume is even worse with earlier versions of the iPhone or iPod Touch and the iPad too. Apple always insists that it’s best to use earphones, well, no wonder.

However, recent developments, with the inclusion of the new iPhone 4S, have led us to believe that Apple could have improved the volume in the new iPhone and added a louder speaker. There have been numerous reports on the internet stating that the iPhone 4S does sound a lot louder than the iPhone 4, but we are not sure if it’s just new software or new hardware. If I’m not hallucinating, it sounds like my iPhone 4 has become louder since the iOS 5 upgrade. But, then again, I haven’t used an iPhone 4S yet.

Our friends over at iDownloadBlog conducted a very scientific test, approved by Apple(not really) and found out that all the reports and assumptions are indeed true. According to them, there is a significant boost to the speaker volume in the iPhone 4S, about 6 decibels more. You should check out the video below to see for yourself;

One of the main reasons, for Apple to boost the volume could be Siri. Yes, since you need to hear what the personal assistant has to say, if you’re in the public, you would obviously need better volume output. If you were looking for another reason to upgrade to the iPhone 4S, here’s one more on that list.

What do you think? Better speaker and volume matter or not?

Last month, Amazon launched their very first tablet, the Kindle Fire, which can pretty much do everything a tablet can. It was said that this tablet will take on all the other tablets, including the Apple iPad, and rule them all. That did not turn out to be true, but then again, it’s hardly been a month since it’s launch and it’s not even available everywhere.

Kindle also launched two other products on the same day, the Kindle Touch and the revamped Kindle Reader. The most important factor that could give these tablets a winning streak is their price. However, if you were planning to get yourself a cheap and good tablet that runs on Android, then this is the right choice for you. Why do tablets sell? Well, there are lots of things that matter, like the brand, quality, features, price etc. If you were wondering how to buy the Kindle Fire or Kindle Touch in India, then you can get one from IndiaPlaza, who is currently selling both the products.

Remember, there is going to be a price difference here in India. Whereas the Kindle Fire sells for $199 in the United States, in India it’s going to cost about $300. Yes, about $100 more than the original price. But, anyways, that’s still cheaper than most branded tablets such as the iPad, Galaxy Tab, Motorola Xoom and others. Kindle Touch 3G and Touch WiFi can also be bought from here and they cost about Rs. 7500 and Rs. 13,500 respectively. You can also check out the Aakash Indian Tablet, which costs just about $50.

Since these products have to be shipped from the U.S, the normal delivery time is about 15 days. It could take more time or you could even get it earlier.

People generally organize themselves by making notes about the stuff they have to do. Most people use notes for writing shopping lists, to-do lists, as a reminder, for passing on a message, plan their schedule, and much more. Well, whatever the reason may be, notes are a really effective way to organize yourself. I, myself use notes to jot down some topics to write blog posts. But, don’t you think it would be really great if you could carry these notes around with you wherever you go?

Being an avid Android user, I checked out the Android Market to find the different notepad apps that are available for Android. Well, below are some of the best Android notepad apps I could find.

One of the best features of this app is that you can pin your notes to the home screen using the sticky notes widget.

The ability to share pictures while chatting with your friend is handy and very useful. You can share screenshot, flowcharts or other pictures directly through the chat. That’s however, not present in Google Chat on the web. When you sign in using GMail and start using Google Chat, all you can do is voice chat and video chat.

GChat Pix is a very useful Google Chrome extension that lets you share pictures using the Google Chat window and just by dragging and dropping it. It works and does the job very quickly indeed. When you drag and drop any image, GChat Pix will first upload the image to it’s server and then provide a link to the image, which will appear as a image when you send it to the Google contact. That means, the contact on the other side will only receive the link, whereas you can see the thumbnail.

For obvious reasons, like security, the image will only be hosted on GChat Pix’s servers for 24 hours. You can directly drag and drop into the chat window, doesn’t matter if it’s popped out or not. It’s almost instant, well, that depends on your internet connection. This is only a Google Chrome extension so don’t try it on other browsers. After the installation, you should see a new icon in your address bar.

Just drag any amount of images over to the chat window and wait for the links to appear, then hit send. As simple as that.

Once you send the link, the contact can view it or them by clicking on the link. Fast and easy way of sharing of images in Google Chat web client. You can download GChat Pix from the Chrome web store.

Let us know what you think of this useful Google Chrome extension.

We’ve all wondered why Siri is only limited to the iPhone 4S. Well, turns out it’s not.

The Siri Assistant feature is one of the most outstanding features of the iPhone 4S and trust me, it is awesome and funny. When Apple introduced the new iPhone, people were really excited about Siri. It’s one of those features that grows to become a game changer and even though there have been similar software like this, there hasn’t been anything as good as Siri. I recently wrote about certain Siri alternatives for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, but none of them will actually have a conversation with you.

I’ve been actually waiting for this development, Siri being ported to an iPhone 4. It was mentioned earlier by iH8sn0w that Siri is not technically A5 processor dependent and since the iPhone 4 has the same RAM as the 4S, it could be made to run on it. Siri for iPhone 4 is then, a reality. The port is the successful work of developer Steven Troughton Smith, who’s been working with 9to5Mac on the porting of Siri to iPhone 4. He has now, successfully managed to port the whole Siri voice command system, with all the required files, to the iPhone 4. Watch the video after the break, if you don’t believe what I say.

As you can see in the video, it’s not as smooth as on the iPhone 4S. It doesn’t work as well either, but come on, this is just the beginning and it’ll certainly get better.

Siri on the iPhone 4 can recognize spoken commands in both the standard Siri view and the keyboard Dictation view. The only issue at this point is that Apple is not authenticating (obviously) commands to its servers from iPhone 4 hardware. The Siri port to the iPhone 4, at this point, also has the ability to speak back to the user. You may notice Siri and the iPhone 4 acting very sluggish in the above video. The issue here is not Siri, but is that a special GPU driver for iPhone 4 is needed; and it is obviously not included in the iPhone 4S binary cache – where the Siri files are located.

All that shows that the iPhone 4 can run Siri, and Siri for iPhone 4 may come out soon enough, if Apple decides so.

UPDATE: Like we told you, the performance of Siri on iPhone 4 was quite sluggish, but now it has been improved. And it works just as it works on the iPhone 4S. However, it still can’t respond properly since Apple has not given access to it’s server on the iPhone 4. Check out the new video with the improvements.

Siri, the personal assistant on the iPhone 4S is the next big development in mobile technology. We have to agree to that, but it’s not limited to the iPhone 4S alone. I recently posted on how the iPhone 4 can also run the elusive personal assistant and I also gave some Siri alternatives for the iPhone 3GS and 4. Of course, Android users may have been wondering when they’re going to get something as awesome as Siri, well, they already have.

Speaktoit is an Android app that works exactly like Siri, if not better, and can understand what you say to it. It’s also really smart and has an avatar or a face. This app is the best Siri alternative for Android, and I’m sure it’ll make all you guys happy. The personal assistant works really well, which you can see in a video later on. For now, let’s talk about what Speaktoit is and can do.

The Speaktoit Assistant is a virtual buddy for your smartphone that answers questions in natural language, performs tasks, and notifies you about important events. The Assistant saves you time and makes communication with gadgets and web services easier and less stressful.

That should answer most of your questions, but I’m sure it doesn’t. Siri has taken the mobile market by storm and it’s certainly going to revolutionize how we use our mobile device, but should Android users be left behind? No. Hence, if you happen to be one, then head over to the Android Market and download Speaktoit right now. It’s a free app. And how is it similar to Siri?

  • You can have a conversation with Speaktoit in your natural voice. And most probably it’ll understand.
  • You can ask it to send emails, texts, look up information, post to Twitter, check you in places, update your Facebook, find news, look up traffic, look up weather, call people, take notes, add things to your calendar, translate foreign languages, help you find nearby places like bars and much much more.
  • You can add a custom Avatar or choose from the ones provided. It’s like talking to a person, only it’s a cartoon character and has a robotic voice, but whatever. It’s still pretty awesome.
  • Changes and improvements keep happening based on user suggestions.
Check out the demo video now;

Speaktoit app will soon be available for iOS and Blackberry too, so if you’ve been looking for a Siri alternative, this is the best one out there, yet. You can download Speaktoit for Android from the Android Market.

The new Apple iPhone 4S is all about the iCloud, storage in the cloud. And that’s what all the future devices are going to go for, because it’s safer, there’s less chances of your data being stolen and it’ll probably last forever. You don’t have to worry about your storage device fail. Yes, cloud storage is the new future and everybody has been at it.

We’ve already seen how soon DropBox got the fame it needed, then there’s Google’s cloud based Chromebooks, Microsoft’s Skydrive, Apple’s iCloud and now there’s Box.Net. If you’re an iOS user and have recently upgraded to iOS 5, then you can take advantage of iCloud. It’s true that you only get 5 GB of free cloud space, but i suppose that should be enough for a few hundred songs or photos. But, what if you want to store thousands of photos and HD videos on the cloud, that’s going to need a lot more space. Sure you can buy more storage from iCloud, but what if I told you that you can get 50 GB of storage for nothing.

Yup, that’s right. If you’ve heard of Dropbox, then you must’ve heard of Box.Net. Both are similar kinds of services that provide online storage space for your needs. Recently, Box.Net made it clear on their blog that anyone who possess an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, is eligible for 50 GB of  Cloud storage. For free. They’ve also increased the maximum upload limit of a file from 25MB to 100MB.

To get access to 50 GB of storage, all you need to do is, head over to the App Store and download the latest Box.net app for your iOS device. Once the app is installed, Sign up for a new account and you should be presented with this once in a lifetime offer.

This offer is valid for 50 days from the start date, which was October 12. So don’t you worry, you’ve got plenty of time. That’s 47 days left. So, go on and download the app right away. Sorry Android, Windows Phone 7 and Symbian users, you’ll have to stick with your memory cards for now.

Wacom, for those who don’t know, is a company that manufactures pen-based touch input devices for graphic designing and other computer related products. Recently, well yesterday, the company held a Press Event in New Delhi to showcase and launch their new Bamboo series of products, which include the Bamboo Stylus, Bamboo Pen, Bamboo Pen and Touch and Bamboo Fun.

All these products are interactive tablets and input devices that help users to actually feel what they’re designing. They also launched the Bamboo Wireless kit, which can turn the Bamboo Fun and Bamboo Pen & Touch to wireless input devices. These devices are compatible with both Windows and Macs. However, the most important and useful product that was launched at the event, is the Bamboo Stylus.

The Bamboo stylus is a perfect stylus replacement for those regular stylus that you get on some touchscreen devices. The newly announced Stylus gets new colors so that it can go well with your attire. Suppose you’re carrying an iPad 2 clad in a Pink Smart cover, wouldn’t it be awesome if you had a pink stylus too? No, I do not like pink, I’m just saying. It comes in other attractive colors like white, blue, green and orange. The stylus comes with a much softer nib that makes the touch experience easier. You can use the stylus along with the Bamboo Paper app for iPad and write notes, create pictures, maps, face sketches, the new design for Batmobile or other such things.

Our Verdict

Since the CallingAllGeeks team was invited to the Press Event, we were presented with a Bamboo Stylus as a takeaway. We tried it out with our iPad 2 and I did manage to design a new car for Ferrari. You can also use it to perform other regular tasks for which you’d normally use your finger. As this Bamboo Stylus works awesome with capacitive touchscreens too, it’s always a pleasure on the iPad. It’s nib is thinner than most other competitors out there. The stylus itself feels classy, you know, worthy of the price and the use.

At Rs. 1700, it’s definitely worth a buy if you like to use your iPad to draw things and specially if you have the Bamboo paper app. Also, if the nib ever wears, which it might, then you can get replacements for just $5(3 nibs).
