I’m pretty sure that all you Android fans out there are celebrating right now. You know, since Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is now real and awesome. It takes the Android customization, looks and functionality to a whole new level and adds a lot of blue too. Sadly, we have no guaranteed date on when this release is going public and will be available as upgrades on other Android devices than the Galaxy Nexus.

So, if you’re dying to make your device look more like it’s running Ice Cream Sandwich and fool your friends in to believing that you work for Google, then here’s what you can do. First of all, root your Android device and use Google to search for CUSTOM Ice Cream Sandwich based ROMS available for your device. If that’s not a choice, then try if this Ice Cream Sandwich launcher works on your device. If that doesn’t work either then you should probably sell your phone and pre-order the Galaxy Nexus.

Wait, there is another option. Get the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich wallpapers, all of them. Yeah, and then apply them as your background and, I don’t know, be happy? Android Central has the complete package and you can download all of them from the source link. It’s time to get a bite of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Siri on iOS 5 Coming Soon

Some more interesting news regarding the Siri port to iPhone 4, well this is even better. Earlier, we had told you about a certain project that’s main goal is to make Siri, the iPhone 4S personal assistant, work on the iPhone 4. However, it was not very successfully since there was no way to connect to the Apple servers and Apple for sure wouldn’t let that happen. But, new reports and information has risen on another Siri port project that happens to work on any iDevice running iOS 5 and does connect to Apple’s servers, no problem.

Developer Jack (@Jackoplane ) has been working on this from quite some time and has now confirmed that Siri on iOS 5 will be available soon to everyone. When I say soon, I don’t mean next 2-3 days, it could be a week or even a month. Jack has managed to make Siri work on iOS 5 without any problems, lags or bugs, but he’s worried about the distribution part. He can’t obviously make it public as Apple is bound to take the tweak down. So, that’s why he’s working on a delivery method and has asked every one to wait.

Siri, is Apple’s greatest feat yet, it is even more magical than anything magic. You can say/ask a lot of things to Siri and it will reply as though it was another human being. It has a sense of humor, a slight attitude and respect. It is currently the most advanced Voice recognition software on the planet, but there are alternatives and apps for Android that work similar to this.

Running Siri on iOS 5 is pretty easy, according to Jack, but we are still not sure if it will work on all iOS 5 devices. This tweak needs Cydia and that means that you’ll have to JAILBREAK your device to have this working. You can see a screenshot of Siri working on iPhone 4 below and in the background you can also see the Cydia icon.

How many of you want Siri on your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch, iPad and iPad 2? This could also be a hoax. We’ll find out soon.

Asus has been trying very hard to shine in the Tablet PC market, but they never really got the chance. Either their products were badly advertised or they weren’t advertised at all. However, they’re planning to make a comeback with their newly revealed tablet PC, the evolution of the Asus Transformer and it’s apparently called Transformer Prime. Hope the decepticons don’t destroy Asus’s headquarter for having Prime.

This isn’t an official announcement, but rather a sneak preview of the product given by the chairman of Asus, Jonney Shih at the Asia D conference earlier today. Why is this a big deal? Well, it runs on the latest and first of it’s kind Tegra 3 quad core processor from Nvidia and will most likely come with the recently announced Ice Cream Sandwich. We don’t have the complete specifications of this tablet, but we do know that it’s going to be extremely thin at just 8.9mm and have a 10.1 inch screen. That’s everything that Mr. Shih gave the world. But, all will be made clear when it’ll be official announced on November 9.

In pictures, the Transformer Prime looks really really awesome, with an all aluminum body and that detachable keyboard it comes with. The Transformer 1 was somewhat of a success, because of its specs and the design. From what I’ve heard, the Prime might be a bigger success and will definitely compete with every other tablet in the market and probably win too.

Mr. Shih also spoke a little about the amazing Asus Padfone, the phone and tablet concept they showcased few months ago and acknowledged that it might see daylight in early 2012. That’s two new products coming from Asus’s stable. For now, watch the teaser trailer of the Transformer Prime.

The Tegra 3 is a very powerful processor, has amazing graphics and a very interesting 5th core that helps in saving battery life. Will we be seeing more tablets coming with the Tegra 3? What do you think? Transformer Prime or iPad 2?

So Google and Samsung announced the Galaxy Nexus, earlier today, and along with it they also pushed out the next big thing in the Android ecosystem. The Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. If you were expecting to see 200 new features or changes in this version of Android then you will be disappointed. However, this new version of Android does bring out some new and never before used features, operating system specific of course.

The event was held in Hong Kong and Google’s new Nexus device, called the Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich were the main attractions of the show. The Galaxy Nexus S is the first phone to come with the new version of Android, so we’ll be referring a lot to the phone to explain some of the features of Ice Cream Sandwich.

First of all, Android 4.0 is a mixture of Gingerbread and Honey, which basically unifies both the mobile and tablet based operating systems in to one. Google wanted to have just one OS for both their mobile devices and tablets, just like Apple’s iOS. Thus, the new version gets lots of blue colors, you can see it everywhere, there will be no need for any physical buttons, but there will be virtual buttons, the UI has been completely changed, a new multi-tasker is now part of the onscreen capacitive buttons.

Google+ is everywhere, synced in to contacts, profiles, browser etc. A new phone app with more improvements that make it easier to use. Camera app has been given some new changes too, like continuous focus, zero shutter lag, single motion panorama mode and the gallery gets some much needed editing extras. Web browser get tabs, up to 16 at once!

New icons, lots of small additions to the looks and feels of certain Google apps, plenty of new apps. A new Roboto font has been adopted throughout, looks much cleaner and elegant, system has a native resolution of 720p and thus might require powerful hardware to run. So, people with low-end/average Android phones, don’t expect Ice Cream Sandwich to run on yours. New lockscreen, similar to one on Honeycomb, gestures throughout the system. You can just flick to remove applications and notifications from the Manage apps and notifications tray.

SCREEN CAPTURE is now native, you don’t need any specific app for that. Holding the power button and Volume down will take a nice screenshot of the screen. The Launcher now has two tabs, Apps and Widgets, folders can be easily created and removed, widgets can be customized. Notifications tray now also works from the lockscreen, oh, there’s also a new Face Unlock software for secure locking of your device, which did not really work at the presentation earlier today. Improved voice recognition, copy paste, error correction, text input and more.

The new Multi tasker is sweet! Say Open Sesame while holding the virtual Recent Apps button, and with a flick of your wand(finger), you can get rid of that game that is still running in the background. You can check how much data you’ve used off of your internet package and add limits and warning levels.

Android Beam

So what does this new beam support? Android beam is an NFC capability that’ll let you share almost anything with another NFC enabled device. You can share apps, music, contacts, videos, web pages, start multiplayer games etc. That’s Android beam and it would be awesome and innovative if NFC was actually famous. Maybe next year perhaps. And don’t forget to watch this video below.

Well that’s almost all the new features that you’ll see in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. If I’ve missed something, I’ll update it later, but you can comment and let us know anyway.

Today, finally at the Samsung-Google Unpacked event, the Galaxy Nexus was announced, the first mobile device of the Nexus family to run the Android 4.0 operating system. It was leaked several times before, but the official specifications are still quite different from the leaked ones. The Unpacked event has now ended and the announcement has given some good relief to the techies around the world. Since the new phone is the part of the Android and Galaxy family and it will very likely bring huge profits to Samsung as well as Google.

This phone consists of Face Unlock, which you can use to unlock your phone with your face(using the front facing camera). In this phone you would be able to share contacts, apps, directions, etc. very easily using Android Beam. Guess what, now there would very less use of the touch keyboard because this phone has Voice Typing, which enables you to enter text using your voice. Being a Google phone, the official Google+ App would be built-in.

Google claims Galaxy Nexus to be the first phone with a 4.65 inches high-definition sAMOLED 720p display which is quite big and the HD-ness makes it a lot more better. The slimness of the smartphones these days, make them more and more desirable. It is just 8.84 mm thick with a 4.29mm bezel. It runs on Android 4.0(Ice Cream Sandwich). The Galaxy Nexus has 4G enabled so you could have some awesomeness while browsing, watching movies on internet, etc.

On one hand, where the 4G makes browsing fast, the Dual-core 1.2GHz processor makes operating the phone faster. It also has a 5 megapixels camera with autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, geo-tagging and face detection. You can also record videos at 1080p high-definition.

This phone looks awesome with great design and the curvy and slim design. It has a hidden notification area in the bottom of the phone which lights up in green when you receive a new email, message or a missed call. The back cover is protected with some designed material to prevent it from slipping. It will be available on NTT Docomo and is expected to be available on Verizon as well.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus is going to hit the markets in November this year and it is definitely going to be quite a competition for recently launched Apple iPhone 4S. Not much word on the price, but it may be around Rs. 30,000(just a guess). You can check out the official website of this phone.

The curtains have been removed, the device has been unmasked and the specifications have been announced. We were pretty much well informed about this new Motorola Droid that has become the part of the Razr family. Remember the impressive invitation that Motorola sent to out to it’s well wishers? Yes, the Faster, Thinner, Smarter, Stronger event has come to an end and the questions answered.

Motorola’s new toy, the Droid RAZR, is now official and part of the very famous RAZR family, one of the hottest selling products of the century. However, this particular RAZR doesn’t have the traditional flip mechanism, but darn it’s slim. Motorola is claiming that their new Droid Razr is the thinnest smartphone in the world with a thinness of just 7.1 mm. That’s of course at it’s thinnest point, because it does have a slight bulge on the top and thus look kind of similar to the Droid X. It also does live up to it’s other characters such as ‘Faster’, ‘Stronger’ and ‘Smarter’.

The Droid RAZR, is made of Kevlar fiber for maximum strength and corning Gorilla glass for scratch and fall resistant display. It has a 4.3 inch qHD Super AMOLED Display that’s surely not going to fit in some hands. It runs Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 and has some nano coating of some sort that makes the phone water resistant. The internal hardware consists of a dual core 1.2 Ghz processor, an 8 megapixel camera that can do 1080p video recording, has 1GB of RAM and lots of storage(32 gig).

Apart from that, you may also dwell yourself in a rather big basket of accessories that include the Lapdock, earphones, Bluetooth attachments, wireless keyboards and more. There’s also a rather interesting Cloud feature that comes with is phone, called Moto Cast. Using this, you can wirelessly stream all your photos, videos, music and data from your laptop to the phone. Doesn’t improve security, but does the job.

Sanjay Jha, Chairman and CEO, Motorola Mobility stated;

DROID RAZR by Motorola is a testament to the innovation and design possibilities that stem from a strong partnership between Motorola Mobility and Verizon Wireless. We set out to design the best smartphone on the planet and delivered DROID RAZR which is thinner, smarter, stronger than any device on the market.

According to the press release, the Droid Razr will be out next month and available on Verizon for $299. Pre-orders for the phone begin October 27 and can be done by visiting this link www.droiddoes.com/droidrazr.

Everybody knows about the Apple-Adobe relationship, it’s not one of those joyous relationships that one would like to be in. Apple doesn’t really like Adobe for the fact that their Flash Players are very vulnerable to malwares and attacks of that sort. That didn’t, however, stop Adobe from tailoring some nice looking apps for Apple’s iOS devices.

We already have the Adobe Photoshop Express and the Photoshop Touch Apps for iPhone and iPad respectively, and now they’ve also included the much needed Adobe PDF Reader. Yes, that’s right. Adobe released their very useful and famous PDF Reader application for iOS, that can open e-books, portfolios, encrypted pdf files and is also free. This is not the first PDF related app that Adobe has released for iOS devices, prior to this they had also released a CreatePDF app that can create PDF files from regular documents.

Adobe Reader is the free global standard for reliably viewing and sharing PDF documents across platfoms and devices. Easily and efficiently access the widest range of PDF file types—including PDF Portfolios, password-protected PDF documents and Adobe LiveCycle rights-managed PDF files. Now available for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, Adobe Reader offers fast, high-quality interaction with PDF.

The Adobe Reader app on the iPhone works perfectly. Once you fire it up, it’ll quickly take you through a Getting Started pdf file, which tells you how to use the app. There’s a scroll bar on the bottom, that acts as a way to skim through pages, you can pinch-to-zoom, select and copy text, choose between continues, single page and automatic views and search for text in the pdf.

So, how do you add files to Adobe Reader? Well, whenever you come across any file on your iOS device that has the ‘Open in’ option, it’ll automatically be added to the reader. That’s it. We’ve also wrote about 5 PDF Reader Applications for iPhone other than this. Do check them out too.

I know it’s pretty pointless to stack a mobile phone next to the mighty Canon EOS 5D, but even crazier things have happened. Apple stated on their iPhone 4S event that this is best camera currently available on any mobile device, you know, with video stabilization and 5 lenses and stuff. So, to find out how awesome the new iPhone 4S camera actually is, Robino Films, mounted it next to the EOS 5D Mark II and started filming.

The Canon 5D Mark II costs about $3000, whereas the iPhone 4S costs much much lesser. I don’t know if it’s right to perform such a test because both of them are in a completely different league, but the end results of this test made my jaws drop. There is some difference between the videos recorded by both these cameras, but it’s nothing much. Apart from warmer colors, slight blur and some scrolling black lines on the billboard, the iPhone 4S will certainly amaze you.

This test was conducted in a proper way, with both the cameras on similar settings. Well, sort of, because the iPhone 4S doesn’t really have that many settings as compared to the F-22 cockpit on the Canon.  Now, of course the 5D won, why won’t it? It’s got 21 Megapixels and some crazy optics, but it only beat the iPhone 4S by few frames. If you’re a wannabe movie director or a hard working filmmaker with limited funds, then you should try your hands on the iPhone 4S. But watch the videos below to clear all your doubts;

iPhone 4S / Canon 5d MKII Side by Side Comparison from Robino Films on Vimeo
Now, this one is not a comparison. It’s just a short film shot by the professional film editor Benjamin Dowie and it is AMAZING.

So, what do you think?

If you happen to be one of those unlucky users who experienced the unfortunate BlackBerry Messenger outage that took place last week, then you’re in for some free gifts. Well, technically it’s only free apps that you’ll be getting, but that’s still something. The BBM service outage turned out to be pretty nasty, affecting almost all parts of the world, for up to three days in some.

RIM, commented that this whole mess had something to do with a core-switch that did not work and a failed back-up. Now, none of the Blackberry users want to hear all this do they? They just want their texts to be delivered to all their friends in the network. Finally, almost after a week, all the services are back to normal and RIM has sent their apologies to everyone who’s using it’s services. RIM Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis said in an official statement;

Our global network supports the communications needs of more than 70 million customers. We truly appreciate and value our relationship with our customers. We’ve worked hard to earn their trust over the past 12 years, and we’re committed to providing the high standard of reliability they expect, today and in the future. We are grateful to our loyal BlackBerry customers for their patience. We have apologized to our customers and we will work tirelessly to restore their confidence. We are taking immediate and aggressive steps to help prevent something like this from happening again.

In addition to the apology, RIM has also promised to give Blackberry apps worth $100 to every Blackberry Customer who faced the outage. That’ lovely isn’t it? But, do Blackberry users normally have or use any apps other than BBM? I’m not so sure, maybe they do. Anyways, here’s the list of the apps that you’ll be getting:

  •  SIMS 3
  • Bejeweled
  • N.O.V.A.
  • Texas Hold’em Poker 2
  • Bubble Bash 2
  • Photo Editor Ultimate
  • DriveSafe.ly Pro
  • iSpeech Translator Pro
  • Drive Safe.ly Enterprise
  • Nobex Radio™ Premium
  • Shazam Encore
  • Vlingo Plus: Virtual Assistant

Also, Enterprise customers of RIM, will be provided with one month of free technical support. Well, that’s it. So, RIM is really sorry that you couldn’t reply/send texts during the outage.

When Apple finally started the pre-orders of the iPhone 4S, they announced that the phone will hit stores on October 14 and it’ll only be on contract. They clearly stated that unlocked iPhone 4S will be sold starting in November, next month. The unlocked iPhone 4S will not work on CDMA, that’s a bit of a downer, but it’ll still have Siri. It’ll also be more expensive than a On-contract device. Currently AT&T, Verizon and Sprint are selling the iPhone 4S.

However, certain reports are beginning to rise that say that some people have already got unlocked iPhone 4S from Apple Stores in the United States. According to 9to5Mac, the developer behind the recent Siri port to iPhone 4, Steven Troughton-Smith, happened to buy a so called Off Contract iPhone 4S and discovered that it worked with T-Mobile. That means that he is in possession of an unlocked iPhone 4S and it isn’t November yet. So, what’s all the fiasco here?

Although Apple says that they will begin selling unlocked, contract-free iPhone 4S units in the United States in November, we have learned otherwise. Select Apple Stores in the United States have begun selling contract-free versions of the iPhone 4S, which our friend Steven Troughton-Smith was able to both verify and purchase.

Well, apparently, Apple is selling Off Contract phones at certain Apple Store in the U.S, which doesn’t require you to sign any contract, but does require you to pay the retail price. And the retail price starts from $649 and goes up to $849 depending on the storage. Many others from MacRumors forums have also reported that upon restoring their retail iPhone 4S, iTunes has turned out with the “Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked” message.

So, maybe you can get your hands on one of these Off Contract iPhone 4S by paying the retail price and see if it’s true. It’s always best to get an unlocked iPhone, since you’ll have to freedom to change carriers anytime you want.
