I’m sure you’ve heard and watched a lot of videos of Siri, the personal assistant for the iPhone 4S. It is amazing and like no other voice recognition software out there. I’ve already shared almost all the things that you can ask Siri and now, here’s a post on what commands can be used for Siri dictation.

Siri also has the ability to convert everything you speak into text, and it is very accurate depending on your accent. You can dictate a message, write notes, emails or anything without even using the keyboard. To help the task of Siri dictation easier for you, Jim Rhoades of Crush Apps has come up with a complete list of commands that you can use.

To activate Siri dictation, just hold the Mic button on the keyboard and start speaking. Using the list below, you can add a lot more to your text than just words and letters. Hopefully, we’ll have a working port of Siri on iPhone 4 or iOS 5 devices and try this too.

Say this …

… to do this

new line move to the next line (like pressing “Return” on a keyboard)
new paragraph to start a new paragraph
cap to capitalize the next wordFor example, saying:
I named my pet pig cap bacon

produces the text:
I named my pet pig Bacon

(interestingly, if you say “Kevin Bacon”, Bacon is automatically capitalized for you)

caps on … caps off to capitalize a section of textFor example, saying:
caps on twenty five ways to eat bacon caps off

produces the text:
25 Ways to Eat Bacon

all caps to make the next word all uppercaseFor example, saying:

all caps on … all caps off to make part of what you say uppercaseFor example, saying:
I am hungry all caps on feed me now all caps off please

produces the text:
I am hungry FEED ME NOW please

no caps to make the next word lowercaseFor example, saying:
I like no caps Mike

produces the text:
I like mike

no caps on … no caps off to make sure part of what you say is all lowercaseFor example, saying:
Our friends no caps on Steve and Tina no caps off live in California

produces the text:
Our friends steve and tina live in California

space bar to prevent a hyphen from appearing in a normally hyphenated wordFor example, saying:
This restaurant is first space bar class

prevents first-class from being hyphenated, and produces the text:
This restaurant is first class

no space to prevent a space between wordsFor example, saying:
This is the best no space tasting bacon ever

produces the text:

comma ,
double comma ,,
“quote” or “quotation mark” ”(although, if you need to place some text within quotation marks, using the “quote … end quote” commands may be more accurate)

Have you tried Siri yet? What do you think of its speech to text capabilities?

Tablets are definitely the fashion of today in the tech world. After netbooks, notebooks, smartphones, etc. it is the season for tablets and everybody is looking to buy one. Even though most people prefer the 10-inch factor of a tablet, some people seem to be having some problems with the bigger size as they are sometimes not able to fit in. Those people go with the 7-inch tablets.

Even in the 7-inch tablet market, there are several choices which can confuse you and that’s why, this post will tell you about the top 3 7-inch tablets available in India.

1. HTC Flyer

HTC is quite a reputed company when it comes to smartphones. But in the tablet market, it isn’t much big. But as always, their products are amazing and HTC Flyer is yet another one of them. The 7-inch tablet with its minimal white back cover, attracts a lot of folks and the specifications keep them checking this tab.

It has a LCD capacitive touchscreen. You can store a lot in this device because of 32 GB internal storage. GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microUSB are present in this tab. It has a 5 megapixels rear camera with auto-focus and geo-tagging and 1.3 megapixels secondary camera. Video recording is available in 720p. It has a 1.5 Ghz processor. It runs on Android v2.3.3(Gingerbread). The HTC Sense is definitely available. It has a 4000 mAh battery.

Talking about specifications, we don’t have much to criticize but when it comes to price, you may want to skip this tablet. The price of this tablet is around Rs. 39,500. I agree that the price is huge but the specs aren’t bad either. I would suggest you to see the other tabs and then take the decision. It may leave you in a dilemma but it is you who will have to choose the right thing.

2. Blackberry Playbook

Blackberry is just like HTC. Reputed in smartphones department and new in tablet department. The tablet from Blackberry is the Blackberry Playbook. Blackberry Playbook has received many reviews on the amazing performance. Certain great features make this tablet worth your hard-earned money.

It has a TFT capacitive touchscreen. It is available in three models of storage, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and microUSB are available. It has a 5 megapixels rear camera with autofocus and 3 megapixels front facing camera. Video recording is available in 1080p. It has a 1 Ghz dual-core processor. It runs on Blackberry Tablet OS. It has a 5300 mAh battery.

Well, this tablet has quite nice specifications and pricing is also done nicely. The pricing details are:

1. 16 GB: Rs. 27,990
2. 32 GB: Rs. 32,990
3. 64 GB: Rs. 39,990

For this tablet, my suggestion would be going for the 32 GB model because it costs OK and the specs wouldn’t make you feel bad after spending this much on your new tablet. If you are a Blackberry power user, you should try this one and you would definitely love it but if you are not, you may choose to wait till RIM announces some more additions to it.

3. Dell Streak 7

The third tablet of this post is Dell Streak 7. Dell is very famous in laptops and PCs business. Then they stepped in smartphones business and got some good reviews and after that they stepped in the tablets business which also gathered them some good revenue.

It has a TFT capacitive touchscreen. It has a 16 GB storage which can be expanded up to 32 GB using a microSD card. GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth, 3G, Wi-Fi and microUSD are available. It has a 5 megapixels rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and geo-tagging and 1.3 megapixels front facing camera. Video recording is available in 720p. It has a 1 Ghz dual-core processor. It runs on Android 2.2(Froyo). It has a 2780 mAh battery.

This tablet looks quite powerful but the operating system, Android 2.2 gives this tab a backward feel because nowadays every tab has Android 2.3 or Android 3. Nevertheless, the other specs can keep the customer attracted towards it.

The price of Dell Streak 7 is around Rs. 40,000. Dell Streak is yet to hit the stores in India. It will come in a month or so.

All of them were as good as any 10-inch tablet. If I had to choose one out of the above I would choose the Blackberry Playbook 16 GB version as the price is low and I don’t store much on my portable devices. Which one will you choose?

I’m not a photographer, but that doesn’t mean I do not love using cameras, specially something as amazing as this one. Yet, I don’t use DSLR cameras or such just because they have too many settings and I’m a lazy guy. For times like those, the Lytro Camera is a dream come true. This is the first camera in the world that doesn’t need any kind of settings or focusing or fiddling with buttons and knobs.

The Lytro Camera, unveiled by Lytro, has an anodized aluminum frame, an f/2 lens with 8x optical zoom, two buttons, a 11 mega ray light-field and is all fit into a nice to hold rectangular body. What’s so special about this camera? The Lytro camera can take living photos, that means, you can click a picture and then focus afterwards. This is a new way of taking and sharing pictures and is definitely going to cause a stir in the photography communities.

<Image Credit>

You wouldn’t ever need to focus while taking a picture, and because of that, this camera is amazingly fast and has no shutter lag. The two buttons on the camera will Turn it on and Take pictures. It turns on instantly and takes photos just as you click the second button, no waiting. This means that you’ll never miss a moment, it’s that fast and there is a video demonstration to prove that.

The Lytro is the only consumer camera that lets people instantly capture a scene just as they see it by recording a fundamentally richer set of data than ever before. Lytro cameras feature a light field sensor that collects the color, intensity, and the direction of every light ray flowing into the camera, capturing a scene in four dimensions. To process this additional information, Lytro cameras contain a light field engine that allows camera owners to refocus pictures directly on the camera. When the Lytro’s living pictures are shared online, the light field engine travels with each picture so anyone can interact with them on nearly any device, including web browsers, mobile phones, and tablets-without having to download special software.

That’s it. Photography is not going to be like before. The Lytro Camera comes in three colors and with 2 storage options, 8GB and 16GB.  Prices start from $399 and go up to $499. That’s really cheap for a camera that can take living photos. You can pre-order the Lytro camera on their official website and it will be shipped to you in early 2012. The software is currently only available for the Mac, but it’ll be soon available for Windows. Ren Ng, the founder of Lytro states;

Light field photography was once only possible with 100 cameras tethered to a supercomputer in a lab. Today it’s accessible to everyone in a camera that’s small and powerful, but incredibly easy to use. Our goal is to forever change the way people take and experience pictures, and today marks our first major step.

Watch the demo video from CNET after the break.

Are you shocked right now? Amazing technology isn’t it? I bet you want to own one right now.

Security is an issue everywhere, on the internet, on your mobile device, on your tablet, on your computer and even in your personal lives. Well, at least on mobile devices and such, there is something called as Password. But, even those passwords aren’t very protective and can be bypassed with hacks such as the one I’m about to share with you. I’m sure you’ve heard of the Smart Cover that Apple made famous with their iPad 2, well, it turns out that they can let a user bypass the Passcode lock and enter the homescreen.

Sounds scary doesn’t it? As 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman discovered, the iPad 2 Smart Cover has a loop in the security and can let users access their Passcode locked devices without needing to entering any code. How bad is that? However, this method will not let you use or open any of the applications once inside the iPad, but imagine if you left an important email or personal file open. People do normally keep their apps open, such as emails, messages, photos or something else. It happens all the time, I’ve experienced it myself. I’ve left apps open and forgotten about it. Once you leave the iPad idle for 30 seconds, it locks itself. Now that’s an opportunity.

There is a simple method on how to do this, and lets find out how you can do it. Be advised, that this is not something cool. It’s literally like breaking in to another’s personal data and can lead to gruesome battles or even death. Here’s how to do it. Remember this will only work if you have a Smart Cover.

  • Lock your device, then hold the iPad’s Power button until the “slide to power off” switch appears
  • Close the iPad’s Smart Cover. This will lock the device again.
  • Open the Smart Cover and select  ‘Cancel’. Baam!! You have successfully bypassed the lock screen.
Check out the video after the break:

What do you think? Hope Apple addresses this issue real soon.

After the Apple iPhone 4S launch and the tragic loss of Pioneer Steve Jobs, it’s Google’s time to rank high in search results. Why you ask? Well, they just revealed Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and also launched the Galaxy Nexus. The new upgraded and revamped mix of an operating system looks pretty good and gets some new and interesting features as well.

But, what all those Android users are searching for right now, is if their Android device can run the new operating system. Well, if you happen to own one of Google’s very first Android device, the Nexus One, then you’re in for a surprise.

A complete port of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus One is on it’s way and if you don’t believe that, you can check out the video at the end of the post. The Nexus One is Google’s first Android device and is about 2 years old now, but it still can run things, including Ice Cream Sandwich. Well, it does have some problems though, as the hardware is outdated and stuff. This is a direct port of the Android 4.0 SDK, so obviously there will be lot of bugs. Even the Settings app crashed. So, yes it’s not perfect, but it works.

Soon, there will be a proper build for the HTC Nexus One, most likely coming from the same developer who has pulled off this maneuver. It would be great if other such Android phones got the latest upgrade too, but we must wait. The Google Nexus S, predecessor to the Galaxy Nexus hasn’t got the update yet, but yes it’ll soon and then it may start rolling out to compatible high-end devices. For now, check out the video of Android Ice Cream Sandwich on Nexus One.

Any Nexus One owners smiling right now? We will update you when a Custom Ice Cream Sandwich ROM is available for the Nexus One.

Pretty amazing if you ask me? What are your opinions on this camera? Would you buy one?

One of the most important and highlighted features of the new iPhone 4S is Siri, in a word, it’s breathtaking. It’s one of a kind and has an attitude. Now, there are many alternatives and apps for Android and other devices, but none of them gets even close to what Siri can do. Although this is an iPhone 4S only feature, developers are working really hard to get Siri working on iPhone 4 and iOS 5.

As Siri is the key feature here, Apple’s new television ad for iPhone 4S, the first TV ad for that matter, is solely based on Siri alone. There is no mention of anything else, nothing about the camera or the new processor. The ad is then to the point and will obviously attract many users, well, Apple iPhone ads always do, don’t they?

The ad kicks off with the Siri interface and with users asking Siri various questions such as “What does a weasel look like?” and ” Do I need an Umbrella in New York this weekend”. It is quite a fast paced ad with a voice saying ‘Say hello to the most amazing iPhone, yet’ at the end of the ad. Watch the ad after the break, it has some good music too;

So what do you think? Is this the most amazing iPhone yet? Have you been successful in talking to Siri?

It’s been almost over a week since Apple released the final version of iOS 5 to the public, and almost everyone has gone ahead and upgraded their devices. Not many have jailbroken their iOS devices yet, mainly because there is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 yet. But, no matter, this post about this amazingly awesome jailbreak app for iOS 5, will definitely make you go all tethered jailbreak on your iOS device.

Yes, I can guarantee you, that after watching the demo video for this new jailbreak tweak called IntelliScreenX, you will or will want to jailbreak. IntelliScreenX is a notification center Cydia tweak, that adds a ton of new widgets on to your Notification tray from Twitter to RSS feeds and much much more. When I say ‘much more’, I actually mean about 15 widgets in this single tweak. Yes, it’s pretty impressive, but it has another amazing features as well, that all the iOS 5 users are really going to like.

IntelliScreenX can be accessed from the iOS lockscreen! That is awesome and also one major missing feature in iOS 5, because every time you want to check your Notification Center widgets, you have to unlock and then view them. This Cydia tweak fits perfectly in your Notification Center and adds various widgets such as an in-depth weather reporter, RSS feed reader, Twitter widget, Email widget, Facebook widget, System utilities, Power buttons and much more.

You can do many things from sending a tweet from the Twitter widget, updating your Facebook status to opening and reading email directly from the notifications. There’s also small little feature that lets you collapse a list of notifications. For example, you can collapse a list of 17 emails so that you’ll have space to see the rest of the notifications. Check out the complete demonstration by the developers after the break.

This tweak is not yet available on Cydia, but they have promised us that it will be in the coming week. So what do you think of this jailbreak tweak. I believe it’s a must have iOS 5 jailbreak tweak and this should give you enough reason to perform that jailbreak. We will update this post when the tweak goes live on Cydia.

The much awaited Ice Cream Sandwich(Android 4.0) phone was announced very recently on 19th October 2011 and created a huge amount of appreciation as well as excitement throughout the world especially to the techies. The only news on availability of Samsung Galaxy Nexus on its launch was that it would be hitting the stores in the next month, November.

There was no word on the pricing of this Android 4.0 phone and that’s why the top sites came up with huge guesses and many of them failed, as usual. Making things easier and better for all, Samsung has revealed all the pricing and availability details that were required. Read on to find out.

As already told above, Samsung Galaxy Nexus would be coming to market in November. It will firstly come to United States, Norway, Japan, Canada and United Kingdom. The carriers which will are used for this phone are Verizon(for United States), NTT Docomo(for Japan), Three, Vodafone and O2(for United Kingdom).

  • The price range in United Kingdom for Samsung Galaxy Nexus is from £429 to about £515.
  • In United States, the cost will be around $800.
  • In Denmark, the cost will be around 4400 DKK.
  • In Finland, the cost will be around €649.
  • In Sweden, the cost will be around 5500 SEK.
  • In Netherlands, the cost will be around €649.

Sadly, the price and availability for India hasn’t been revealed but if we convert the United States price to Indian Rupee, it shows Rs. 39,840 which may be the real cost but we cannot be sure yet for that. We have to wait some more for Indian pricing details.

If you want to know about the phone, click on the link. If you see the specifications, you will know that this phone is great and quite worth of your money. As a techie, even I was looking out for this phone for a long time and the announcement really made me excited and the specs, especially the Android 4.0 has made it a desire for a lot of people out there which may include you as well. Try to wait if you can, otherwise you may try ordering it from US in November itself.
