It is official folks! Google has indeed launched a native Gmail app for iOS devices, as it was stated by TechCrunch writer M.G Siegler yesterday. The official Gmail app for iPhone and iPad is now live on the App Store and you can download it for free. iOS users had all the other native Google apps, but the one thing that was missing from the list was this and now it’s finally here.

The Gmail App, according to me, has been better developed than the Google + app and it works and looks great while showing your unread emails and such. As soon as I fired up the app, there popped an error message stating “no valid aps-environment entitlement string found”, which did not harm me in any way, but did startle me for like a second or two. Google decided to stick with the black and white appeal for this app too, and it works quite well, expect for the part where I couldn’t really notice the buttons.

It’s fast, easy to navigate around, looks good and is really smooth, although I do believe that the stock iOS mail app is simpler. It has push notifications and alerts, specifically designed for iOS 5. You can attach photos directly while writing an email, by using the attach button, a feature that wasn’t available in the stock iOS mail app. The view of this app is better on the iPad, with the ability to see all your emails and navigate all on one page, you can also read emails in threaded view. Pull down to refresh is also something new in the Gmail App for iPhone and iPad. Check out some screenshots below:

The Gmail app then, is certainly better than the stock app on your iOS device, but would you really replace the latter? The Gmail app can only show your Gmail inbox, whereas the Mail app in iOS can be configured to deliver email from various services. But, as a Gmail only app this is certainly a must have.

UPDATE: If you just tried to download and try this app, you must’ve been greeted with an error saying that it cannot be found in the App Store. Well, apparently, after some time of use, the Gmail App started giving some problems, such as the push notifications don’t work, there’s no option for multiple logins etc. Hence, Google has removed it from the App Store and soon will replace it with a better working app.

Grand Theft Auto, popularly known as GTA has been the flagship series of Rockstar Games which have made them earn millions and billions of dollars. Last week Rockstar Games displayed the GTA V logo on their homepage with the date 2/11/11 displaying below it which promised that the trailer would be released on 2nd November 2011. Since then, the excitement grew bigger and bigger. Everybody waited for the trailer and the countdown on Rockstar Games official site made the excitement grow more.

On 2nd November, as promised, at 9:30 pm, the 1:24 minutes trailer was unveiled. The trailer also revealed that GTA V would be set in San Andreas, my favorite place in GTA. The trailer revealed a few things more. Wikipedia says, “It is also revealed in the trailer that there will be the return of aircraft, which include Jets, blimps, and propeller planes. There also might be a chance of dogs and other animals in the game, as seen in the early seconds of the trailer.”

There are not much details available from the trailer but the analysts must be getting ready and watching the trailer again and again to find out more from the game. I don’t think that the game has any chances of getting released this year so we may have to wait some months to get our hands on the game. Have you seen the trailer yet? If no, then don’t wait. It is given below. Check it out.

Graphics are great as usual but we would have to wait to actually know about the story line and the protagonist of the story. But it definitely will be an interesting wait. GTA has been a great series and GTA V needs to take to the next level. They should announce more details to relieve the much excited viewers and users.

I think that the trailer is great and the game would be greater. Just some more wait and more details would be coming our way.

Duke Nukem is a legendary game! If you are a geek or a gamer or were at one point of time, then you definitely must have played this game. This was one of the first FPS games to be played by millions of people when no one cared about graphics or visuals. If you remember then, this game has a really weird story. Aliens have attacked the city of Los Angeles and are stealing the girls for breeding, the only person who can stop them is Duke. Now, Duke Nukem 3D, after it’s PC launch earlier this year, is finally available for download on the Android Market.

Trust us when we say that this a weird game, because there isn’t a game like this since it’s launch in early 90′s. The developers on the game Machineworks Northwest had this to say about the game.

If you’ve never played a Duke game, this is your chance to see why he’s been a fan favorite since 1991, with over 18 original Duke Nukem games since that time. Duke Nukem is not the typical faceless hero — he’s an in-your-face hero who has a personality that doesn’t quit. Yes, it’s a B-movie plot, but that’s what makes it fun!

If you’re an Android phone user and love to play games on your device, then you should definitely download this. It doesn’t have amazing graphics as such, but the gameplay is pretty awesome and you’ll have a laugh while playing it. As you can see in the screenshots above, the game is pretty awesome. It is not free though, as you’ll have to produce at least $0.99 to purchase this game. Also, it comes with only Episode 1, thus you’ll have make in-app purchases to buy the extra episodes, which again are for $0.99 each. So, overall, if you don’t have the money, don’t buy it, but if you do, then you most certainly should.

3 months ago, Nokia announced the new series in Symbian phones. The series was named Symbian Belle. Three phones were announced in this series: Nokia 600, Nokia 700 and Nokia 701. Due to some unknown reasons, Nokia 600 was cancelled. This phone was expected to hit the stores before the end of third quarter of 2011 but we didn’t saw that. People thought that the phone has been delayed but sadly, at least for some people, the phone has been cancelled.

The cancellation of this phone began when Nokia removed all the pages it had dedicated to Nokia 600. The videos of Nokia 600 announcement from Nokia’s official Youtube channel were removed. Nokia didn’t left even a single clue to show that they had ever announced a phone named as Nokia 600.

On 2nd November 2011, Nokia made it official on their Facebook fanpage by posting this as a reply to question on cancellation of this phone:
The thing is, after careful consideration, we have decided not to ship the Nokia 600.
Check the comment thread – Link

Nokia 600 was tagged as ‘the best Nokia phone’ by many people. A lot of people were too much excited for this phone. Nokia 600 received a lot of appreciation. It had quite amazing specifications which made many people a fan of this phone. It was one of the first Symbian Belle with Nokia 700 and 701. Now, there are just two of them.

The rumors are that operators denies to buy enough phones from Nokia and that’s why they scraped off Nokia 600. Well, there is no official post from Nokia informing about the reason of the cancellation. And I don’t think we would get any of it.

The cancellation has definitely disappointed a lot of folks all around the world and this disappointment might take them away from Nokia to other brands. Let’s see whether Nokia can save themselves by the Windows Phones and Asha Phones.

There are one or two options that you can think of whenever there’a big file that you want to share on the internet. Certain services like Dropbox, Box.net and others help you do that, but all of them come with a minimum file size limit. Usually it’s not more than 250 – 500mb. There are other services that allow you to upload larger files, but only some of them are free. However, most people don’t use these services and prefer getting their data via email or a flash drive.

WinZip is one of our favorite tools when it comes to compressing data, including images, videos etc and they bring to us the all new ZipSend and ZipShare services that once again make sharing large files simpler. Whereas ZipSend can be used to send files and attachments via email up to the size of 2 GB, ZipShare helps you share large files with your friends on Facebook. Both of these can and are really very useful in our day to day lives.

To send large files up to 2 GB via email, you’ll have to first sign up with ZipSend and then download an application called WinZip Courier. There is a catch, as always, which says that only Pro members are allowed to send files as large as 2GB, but a normal user can send files as big as 50MB. You’ll have to shell $9.99 every month for a Pro account, so unless you send tonnes of email with attachments of 500MB – 2GB, then you don’t really need a Pro account.

ZipShare is another such web app started by Winzip, this being more interesting. Using ZipShare, one can upload and share large compressed files with their friends on Facebook. All you have to do is visit ZipShare, Login with your Facebook account and upload the files that you want to share. The maximum limit for a file is 20MB, and that’s not bad at all. You’ll be given a download link for the file that you uploaded, search for your Friend on the webapp and hit the Post button. But, there is a catch here too. Anyone can view and download the file that you uploaded, unless you send it just to your friend using Facebook messages.

Good applications don’t you think? Do give them a try and tell us what you think!

When Apple introduced the iPad 2, GarageBand was one of the showcased applications that created a lot of buzz. Why? Because the app is awesome and very useful people who love to create music, you don’t have to know how to play an instrument if you have this app on your iPad. The ads also showed off how you could create, produce music, record and even plug in your instruments to the iPad, it was an instant hit. The only bad news, the app wasn’t universal, and only available for the iPad 2.

Apparently Apple realized that it should make it available for every iOS device rather than keeping it tied to the iPad. Thus, Apple, today announced that the GarageBand app will hereupon be available on iPhone and iPod Touch as well, making it available on all Apple products. Yes, you’ll have a smaller display, but that doesn’t really matter when you can make sweet music and probably be the next Justin Bieber.  Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing stated;

GarageBand on iPad has been a big hit and we think customers will love using it on their iPhone or iPod touch. The innovative Multi-Touch interface combined with Smart Instruments makes it easy to create great sounding music, even if you’ve never studied music or played an instrument before.

If you’ve already purchased GarageBand on your Apple iPad, then you don’t have to pay for it, but if you haven’t, you’ll have to spend that $4.99 you saved for candy. This is worth the money though! The updated app now works on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad, iPad 2 and iPod Touch(3rd & 4th Gen).

We love Siri, even though we haven’t used it, we are in love with it. It’s like the love you have for a Ferrari, well, not so much, but it’s close. Since the iPhone 4S hasn’t embraced me yet, I haven’t got a chance to use and ask Siri silly things. But, we’ve already shared with you a whole list of all the things that you can say and ask Siri. We also shared one big list for all the Siri Dictation commands that you’d require to write a text message, email etc.

Siri was brought in to this world to make things like typing and looking for information, setting reminders, alarms etc easier and faster. It was also to turn your iPhone 4S in to a friend to keep you company when you’re alone and stranded on an island. If you already have purchased an iPhone 4S, then you certainly must be trying out different things to ask and tell Siri to do. There are a lot of things to be honest, so that’s why you should probably get yourself the “Talking to Siri: Learning the Language of Apple’s Intelligent Assistant” Ebook right away.

This ebook for Amazon Kindle is written by Steven Sande and Erica Sadun of The Unofficial Apple Weblog and is currently available on the Amazon store for $4.99. You can also read this on your Kindle app for iPhone and work on improving your Siri speaking skills. Here’s what this ebook will teach you;

Tutorials show you how to set up Siri in your preferences, and how to manage the interactive conversations you have with your voice assistant. You’ll learn how to perform tasks by topic: such as checking the weather, doing math, or looking up information on the web.

  • Creating notes
  • Searching for contacts
  • Going shopping with Siri
  • Creating reminders and checking your calendar
  • Replying to text messages and sending mail to groups
  • Searching Wikipedia
  • Monitoring the Stock Market
  • Performing dictation
  • The lighter side of Siri
  • Siri security
Thus, you can learn the ways of Siri and become the master! We definitely suggest that you should get this book if you can’t figure out what to or how to talk to Siri.

Till now, any one can buy an unlimited SMS pack from any provider like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and many others and send unlimited SMS/Day. Personally I use Airtel Unlimited SMS pack which gives me unlimited SMS/month. Though I don’t think I ever crossed sending 100/SMS in a day time. Though back in my School days or college days, I guess 100 SMS/day was not a big deal, but thanks to Whats app, BBM, iMessage and now Samsung ChatOn messenger, I mostly rely on GPRS data to send SMS to my friends.

Here is a good and bad news for people who are in love with unlimited SMS, TRAI (Telecom regulatory authority of India), is imposing a new rule by next week, which will limit the maximum no. of sending SMS to 100/Sim. In plain word, even if you are using any unlimited SMS pack, you won’t be able to send more than 100 SMS in a given day.

This new rule will be helpful for users to fight against promotional SMS and specially if you are frustrated with promotion messages even after signing up for, do not disturb service, you might notice a record drop in such messages.

This new 100 SMS regulation from TRAI has been one of the most talked topic from last couple of months and in a statement, TRAI notified all telecom provider to implement this rule from 27th September 2011. As a customer, this might not be acceptable for many, as they are paying for the service to enjoy the free unlimited SMS service.

Though for Indian users, if you are someone who needs to send more than 100 SMS/day, you can try using Dual Sim phones or you can take help of our FREE SMS archive and find most suitable website for your need:

This new PDPS (Per day per sim) rule is going to be happy and sad news for many, I would love to know your opinion on the same. Does 100 SMS/day limit is going to bring any change in the way you use your mobile phone? Would you be moving to whatsapp or any other smart phone integrated messenger, to stay in touch with your friends via text.

UPDATE: Looks like TRAI has heard all our hearts and has decided to increase the free SMS limit from 100 to 200. Here’s an official statement;

The authority has received representations from some of the service providers and consumers to increase the limit of 100 SMSes per day per SIM. The authority has considered these representations and decided to increase the limit of 100 SMSes per day per SIM to 200 SMSes per day per SIM.

Google announced the latest iteration of Android, the Ice Cream Sandwich at the Samsung and Google Unpacked event last week. They also announced the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the first ever phone to come with Android 4.0. However, the SDK was released to developers, since it’s an open source OS, and was right away ported to an old Google Nexus One. The Nexus S will be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich and it has been confirmed, but the Nexus One has been pushed aside.

In case you happen to own a Google Nexus S and can’t wait to try out Android Ice Cream Sandwich, this post will definitely help you. Also, if you can’t wait till the official release of Ice Cream Sandwich for the Nexus S, then you should definitely give this a try as it can be used for daily usage. Remember, there will be bugs as this is a direct port of the SDK and users with heart conditions shouldn’t try this.

Before we begin, the first step to a successful Custom ROM installation is to backup your device, all the data that you need should be backed up. This process is going to erase and Factory reset your Nexus S, but will also let you experience and show-off Android 4.0. You also need to own a Google Nexus S that must be rooted, have an unlocked bootloader and have Clockwork Mod Recovery installed. If you haven’t done any of that, you can do so by download and running this batch.exe file, while your device is connected to your Windows PC and USB debugging is turned off. Make sure you run the file in administrator mode. Once you’ve done that, your Nexus S will be rooted, have an unlocked bootloader and CWM recovery ready.

  • Download the latest build of Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S from here.
  • Copy/Paste the downloaded zip file to the root of internal storage of your device.
  • Turn of your device and hold the Volume Up button with the Power button to enter CWM Recovery mode.
  • Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik and finally “Install zip from sdcard”.
  • Select choose zip from sdcard and scroll down to the zip file that you copied and hit the Power button.
  • The installation will start and your phone will reboot to Ice Cream Sandwich
  • Enjoy!!
That’s it. You’ll now be running Ice Cream Sandwich. It may be a little slow after the first boot, so you will have to reboot once more to make it run smoothly. Some apps may crash for the first time, but they should be alright later on. Face Unlock and NFC may not work properly.
Do try this out and let us know how you find Ice Cream Sandwich on Nexus S.

Nokia recently announced their new range of Window Phone 7.5 devices at the Nokia World 2011 event. The show stopper was the Nokia Lumia 800, a beautifully designed Nokia N9 running on Windows Phone Mango. The Windows Phone 7.5 mobile OS from Microsoft has been adopted by Nokia, Samsung, HTC and few other companies, but it’s still not widely used. However, this doesn’t mean that people aren’t using the OS, many are and we actually dig the Metro UI and simplicity of it.

Recently, Microsoft officially started rolling out the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango updates to the LG Optimus 7 and the Samsung Omnia 7 phones worldwide. However, there are a lot of other phones out there from HTC, Samsung etc that are still running on WP7 and are waiting for the update. Well, your wait is finally over, because soon you too will be receiving the update for your devices. Microsoft has promised that all and any mobile device running Windows Phone 7 is compatible and will receive the latest update. Eric Hautala, General Manager, Customer Experience Engineering of Windows Phone 7 stated;

In addition, we’re now delivering Mango to 100 percent of eligible phones around the world, regardless of carrier.

The updates have already started being delivered for the Samsung Omnia 7, and soon enough every other Windows Phone 7 device will be treated the same way. You will receive a notification on your mobile device asking for permission to download and install the latest Mango update. Remember to backup your device before the process. Also, you may receive another notification for an upgrade in firmware, but this is only applicable for devices on certain carriers, so don’t panic if you don’t get it.

The latest Mango update will bring a lot of new features to your mobile device including better copy-paste, music player and other bug fixes and new customization settings. So be sure to upgrade when you do get the notification. You can go check this site for more information on when you’ll be receiving those updates.
