Today I bought iPhone 4 Factory Unlocked in India. This Factory unlocked 16gb iPhone 4 cost me INR 45000 or $960.

I had an option to but jail broken iPhone 4 16 Gb for INR 41000 but because of my bad experience with Jail broken iPhone 3GS I opted for Factory unlocked one.

Somehow I still miss the look and design of iPhone 3GS compare to iPhone 4. iPhone 4 doesn’t look as good as iPhone 3GS. Still being an Apple fan, I had no option but to go for iPhone instead of any other phone. If not iPhone, I would have gone for Nokia N8 which is scheduled to launch next month.

Here I’m sharing unboxing images of iPhone 4:

I will be sharing lots of iPhone tutorials in coming days. If you need any particular iPhone tutorial, you can request  from contact page. Don’t forget to Follow us on Twitter @callingallgeeks or Join our Facebook page to keep yourself updated.

When I switched to Windows 7 few months back, the only thing I didn’t like about it was the large Start Menu icons. So, I changed them back to small icons in few simple steps.

If you also want to change the large Start Menu icons, follow simple steps below:

1. Right click on Start Menu and go to Properties.

2. Click on Customize.

From the list, find “Use Large Icons”, uncheck it and click OK.

And you are done.

Today Google team announced the launch of Gmail voice for Gtalk users. This means now you can make voice call from your computer to any phone number. Calls to Canada and U.S number will be free but call to other countries will be chargeable. Here are call rates for other countries.

gmail-free-call

This new service is going to give stiff competition to current popular Skype which let you call to any phone number from your Pc.

How to Get Started with Google Voice from PC to any Phone Number?

This service will be rolling out in phases and first one to see this will be U.S Gmail users. You need to install Voice and Video chat addon to use this service.

Under your chat list you will see Call phone, click on that and dial phone number and start talking.

Here are some excerpts from Official announcement:

if you have a Google Voice phone number, calls made from Gmail will display this number as the outbound caller ID. And if you decide to, you can receive calls made to this number right inside Gmail (see instructions).
We’re rolling out this feature to U.S. based Gmail users over the next few days, so you’ll be ready to get started once “Call Phones” shows up in your chat list (you will need to install the voice and video plug-in if you haven’t already). If you’re not a U.S. based user—or if you’re using Google Apps for your school or business—then you won’t see it quite yet. We’re working on making this available more broadly—so stay tuned!

Here is cool demo video done by Gmail Voice team showing how calling has changed over time:

Personally I liked the idea of making free calls to U.S and Canada based free number. And I will wait to see this service getting rolled out in my country ASAP.

Do share your views about this New feature from Google team?

In a recently discovered phishing scam, Apple iTunes users have been reported to have lost thousands of dollars through their PayPal accounts which are linked to their iTunes accounts. Although the scam is being termed as a security loophole, reports are suggesting that the iTunes authentication system has not been compromised, but rather it is a standard phishing scam, many of which have been around for years now.

hackeditunes-400x249
“Sources close to Apple tell me iTunes has not been compromised and the company isn’t aware of any sudden increase in fraudulent transactions,” wrote John Paczkowski of Digital Daily. PayPal is announcing that it will be reimbursing the money lost to users via this fraud and also said that the problem is occurring from the ‘iTunes side’.

Apple, on the other hand has maintained a short view that the company knows that the problem is occurring. “Among other new security measures iTunes now requires more frequent re-entry of a customer’s credit card security code,” the Apple spokesperson said. “But if your credit card or iTunes password is stolen and used on iTunes, we recommend that you contact your financial institution and inquire about canceling the card and issuing a charge-back for any unauthorized transactions. We also recommend that you change your iTunes account password immediately.”

This is the second time in a few months that online fraud cases have been identified with respect to iTunes and losers losing their precious cash and information. This event also follows the tightening of Apple’s ID accounts, which are shared by iTunes.

View Sonic, world leader in making LCDs and other display devices is stepping into the tablet market and will be showing off its latest 10-inch tablet which runs on Google’s Android operating system and also an Intel based tablet which will dual boot Google Android and Microsoft Windows. All of this will be unveiled at the upcoming IFA.

The former of the above mentioned devices would be called as ViewPad 7, effectively resurrecting the long abandoned ViewPad brand from the Californian manufacturer. The last ViewPad device which was rolled out by View Sonic was released in 2002.

The ViewPad 7 will have 3G and Wi-Fi capability, and will have front and back dual camera interface for 3G video calls as well as normal video applications. Also, the ViewPad 7 will have GPS, a Micro SD card slot, Bluetooth, G-Sensor and USB connectivity along with a 10 inch screen size and will dual boot Windows and Android.

It is also hoped that the Windows included with the ViewPad 7 will be regular Microsoft Windows 7 rather than Windows Phone 7 which will be released in the coming weeks.

The official statement regarding the specifications of ViewPad 7 from View Sonic is as follows:

The ViewPad 7, a 7″ Android tablet with 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, access to thousands of applications and front and back-facing cameras will be previewed for the first time in Europe. The ViewPad 7 also features assisted GPS, a Micro SD card slot, Bluetooth, G-Sensor and USB connectivity, making the device a compact lightweight companion that has a lot to offer. ViewSonic will also be previewing a new Intel-based 10-inch tablet with dual boot Microsoft and Android operating systems.

Do you think that features of Windows 7- Android Tablet are enough to attract you? Do share your views.

I laid my hands upon the iWebcamera Application for iPhone yesterday and was totally amazed. This is one of those applications that not everyone needed, but they will still appreciate it. Let’s take a detailed look at it.

What does it do?

This application will allow iPhone users to use the mobile device as a wireless webcam with their computers. Works both on Windows and Mac computers. Drivers have been released for Windows(XP, Vista & Win 7) and Snow Leopard.

How to get started?

You will first need to purchase the iPhone app from the App Store. It cost me $4.99. Once you have purchased and installed the application on the iPhone, you will need to download the drivers for your operating system from here.

Post installation, connect your computer and iPhone to the same wi-fi network. I connected my iPhone and Macbook to the home router. Did not check it with an Ad-hoc connection, but that shouldn’t produce a hiccup either. The iPhone app will switch its status from “Waiting” to “Connected” once an app on your computer starts receiving the video stream.

As the developer specified, iWebcamera won’t work with Apple’s iChat and Photo Booth for some reasons. This is not this app’s fault. It should work with most other video chat applications. Just head to your chat client’s preferences > Video Settings > Under Camera Sources select “drahtwerk’s iWebcamera.” Once you reach this step you should already be able to see through the eyes of your iPhone.

Streaming video from iPhone to Skype on Macbook

The iPhone app has a very minimal interface and is very much user-friendly. There’s isn’t much to choose from, which falls in place with the habits of an Apple user. A tap on the green button will pause video stream and status light turns amber. A tap again and you’ll be streaming again. You can choose from two video qualities, high-res and lo-res. Anyone can get it to work, be it a ten year old or your mom.

While laptop users won’t largely benefit from this as our macbooks and laptops usually ship with in built webcams. However, those with no in built webcams or desktop users will surely like it. It’s just great to have the ability to move your webcam freely around yourself. I was able to use my iPhone to show people around my room while on Skype, without moving the computer. Like I said, this is a very practical application and I am totally enthralled with its ability.

The best part I liked and which I keep mentioning again and again is the seamless connectivity. You just need to connect to same networks and the app does the rest. Usually, connecting phone cameras to computers is a tedious hack. But here you are, with a webcamera for one-fifth the normal price. You have two advantages. Firstly, you save some money and secondly you get to put your iPhone’s small but efficient lens to more work. Next in our to-do list is look for some nice iPhone stands to keep the cam stable as we video chat. :)

Verdict:

It’s a recommended buy. The app does what it promises. The updated version for iPhone 4 and iOS4 has been sent to Apple and should land in the App Store soon. I tested it on an iPhone 3G running iOS 4.0 and it worked perfectly.

Before you make the purchase, please note that this app will only stream video to your computer and not any audio. While, you’re chatting you will still have to use your computer’s microphone for voice inputs.

Let us know how you like the idea of being able to use your iPhone as a wireless web camera and if you are curious too to lay your hands upon the app.

If you are the one who is waiting for a new touchscreen iMac then you would be glad to know that Patently Apple revealed some applications made by Apple in Europe that gives a hint that what we can expect in future iMac.

According to the patent, it seems that iMac will run on both iOS and OS X. The switching between the two OS will be interesting according to the direction of screen. When you will use your iMac in upright direction, it will run OS X and while keeping the iMac horizontal it will switch to iOS. Thus you can use it according to your requirement.

Another way is to use touchscreen that is when you want to switch from OS X to iOS then you will need to grab iMAC to 505 left and right as soon in patent figure. These points have advanced touch sensors which sends signals to processor and thus you can easily switch between the two OS.

Apart from this the pantent also revealed about a touch-based MacBook that can be converted into “Tablet Mode”. According to Patent:

The display could also be oriented for touch input. For example, the display 1130 may be rotated and laid flat against the keyboard 1134, with the backside of the display facing down against the keyboard so that the display screen is facing up, in an orientation for touch input.
