Cinemagram app

If you have an iOS device, specially the iPhone 4, iPad 2 and the 3rd or 4th iPod Touch, then you probably like to use them for taking pictures and videos etc. You must’ve also heard of the app called Instagram, which lets you take photos using iOS device, apply filters and effects to it and then share it with your friends online. This app was so popular after it’s release that Apple finally named it the Best App of the Year 2011. Now, here’s another new app called Cinemagram, that does the same thing with videos and lets you create animated GIF from video.

Cinemagram is a new app that creates a hybrid between a photo and a video that is amazing to look at and very creative. All you have to do is take a short video with the help of this app and select the area that you want to create GIFs from movie video.. The app is super easy to use and has a beautiful UI. After you’ve downloaded the app on to your iOS device, launch it and go through the introduction process. The app has 5 tabs at the bottom that can be used to check out the popular images, latest images, create images, check your album and edit the Settings.

How to create animated GIF from video?

As soon as you check out the popular or the latest section, you’ll know how amazing this app is and what kind of things can be done using it. So, lets get on to the filming process then.

Create Animated GIF from Video

Select the capture button and record a short video, preferably 2-3 seconds, using the front or rear camera. It’s best if you record something that’s in motion or something around the subject is in motion.

Cinemagram create

Edit the video if you want, adjusting the length and hit Save. Now, draw the area on the video that you want to animate. Tap the screen once and start drawing. Make sure you draw only the area that you want to be animated! You can even pinch to zoom in to that area to make it easier.

Cinemagram share

You can choose from one of the 4 filters for the image, try them and apply them to make the result look much better. That’s it! That’s how you create animated GIF with the help of the amazing Cinemagram app. You can then give it a title and share it on the app itself or on Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter. It’s a really amazing app and I really enjoyed creating animated GIFs using it.

Here is a video teaser of this Animated GIF creator app:

Cinemagram is currently available in the App Store for $1.99, so if you’re in the mood to create some stunning hybrids of videos and photo, then you should definitely try this app out. Have a look at these samples here, to see what I mean!

shazam player

If you love listening to music on your iOS device then you must’ve realized by now that the app doesn’t have much to offer. It does, however, let you change songs, create playlists, forward, rewind, pause, shuffle and basic stuff like that. But, what if you were looking for an app that does more than that. An app that has much more features and also some unique ones that the stock music app doesn’t. I’m sure you must’ve heard of Shazam music recognition app for iOS and Android. Have you also heard of Shazam Player?

Shazam Player is a better music app for your iOS device, mainly because it lets you do more and know more about your music than the normal app. The most attractive features of this app would be the ability to get information on the track and the artist that you’re listening to, play YouTube videos and get instant lyrics of songs displayed to you as the song plays.

Shazam Player Features:

The most important feature that made me download and use this app from day was, is LyricPlay. You can use this app to perform karaoke shows as it displays the lyrics in sync with the song. And the whole app goes full screen, with only the lyrics shown on the display. Like to sing along to your favorite tunes? This is the app! The app scans your entire library and matches songs that have LyricsPlay enabled. There aren’t currently a lot of them, but there are enough (about 30,000) to keep you happy and help you learn the lyrics of your favorite song.

Shazam player LyricPlay

There are lists available for the top tracks available with LyricPlay and you can even buy tracks by directly going to iTunes via the app. You can watch YouTube videos of any track in the playlist, share what you’re listening to on Facebook or Twitter and get information on the song and the band/artist. And, if you want to know where the band/artist is playing currently, you can get tour dates and other information right within this app.

Shazam player features

Shazam player screen

Since this app was only recently released, the LyricPlay feature hasn’t been perfected yet and you may face unsynced lyric display. The developers are currently working on improving the app and fix such issues as fast as they can. Shazam Player is currently only available for iOS and is available for free in the App Store.

Do you know more such apps like Shazam player which shows lyrics along with song on iPhone or iPad?

Microsoft has been working a lot on polishing the developer preview of Windows 8 that it had released last September. In only 24 hours, it was downloaded over 500,000 times. Windows is the most widely used operating system on a computer and with Windows 8, things are going to get a lot better. The company just announced the final version of the Windows 8 beta and has called it the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. I have given Windows 8 beta download link at the end of the article, and in case if you are not interested in knowing what’s new in consumer preview version of Windows 8, you can skip directly to Download windows 8 beta section at the bottom.

Windows 8 consumer preview

Windows 8 Consumer Preview

A lot is new in this consumer preview than the developer preview, a lot of bugs have been taken care of and it’s much more complete with lots of new apps, features etc. The Windows 8 beta also has the new logo for the operating system that the company had chosen few days ago. I’m sure you’ll be dying with excitement to try out the new Windows 8 consumer preview. You can do so by using the official download links at the end of this page. Before that, let me tell you something more about the new consumer preview. How it’s better than the developer preview and how it will make your Windows experience better.

Windows 8 consumer preview apps

Quite honestly, Windows 8 developer preview had a lot of bugs, very less apps and crashed a lot. However, it had some plus points too. Everyone, I believe, loved the new Metro layout that Microsoft has chosen for it’s latest operating system. If you don’t remember, then you can read our review on the Windows 8 developer preview to see what the next OS from Microsoft brings to the table.

So, the Consumer Preview or the final Windows 8 beta, that was released few hours ago has plenty of new features and is almost ready for daily use. I’m going to talk about them in short and try to cover almost all that’s new with the consumer preview. The hardware requirements remain the same and there are two versions, 32bit and 64bit, that you can download and try out. Microsoft has finally gotten rid of the Start button, like it was rumored it would. Instead, the new layout has something called as the ‘Charms’ bar and four corner gestures that take care of all the tasks!

windows 8 consumer preview Charms

The Charms bar pops out from the right hand side of the screen when you point your mouse on the right-bottom or top corner. It has the Start, Search, Share, Devices and Settings buttons. Performing a right click in any app will bring the top and bottom options instead of the old Right-click options. Left bottom corner will bring up the start menu on non-touch devices that can be clicked to view all the apps currently installed. Oh yes, there are numerous new apps with the Consumer preview, so that’s another plus.

The Internet Explorer is still like the one in the developer preview, IE 10 I mean and then you have SkyDrive(Microsoft’s own cloud storage service), X-box Live and again, new apps.

Where to Download Windows 8 Beta:

Windows 8 Consumer Preview downloads

After reading all that, I’m sure you just can’t wait to download windows 8 beta version and try it out on your system. If you’re already running Windows 8 developer preview, then you probably can run this new version (build 8250). Below are the download links for both the 64 bit and 32 bit versions of the latest Windows 8 beta. Both are ISO files, so you’ll need to either burn them to a DVD or mount them on to USB. You can follow our tutorial on how to create a Windows 8 bootable USB and get it done.

  • Download Windows 8 Consumer Preview 64bit
  • Download Windows 8 Consumer Preview  32bit

Once you’re done installing, do let us know what you think of the Windows 8 consumer preview. Check out the official page of the Windows 8 beta to learn more about it and also find out what apps are available.

OLED vs. LCDThe year 2012 heralded the arrival of the OLED technology as LG and Samsung the two electronic giants from South Korea presented their huge 55 inch OLED TVs. The two television sets clearly stole the 2012 CES show held at Las Vegas in January as people held their breath to watch the picture perfect true to life images on large screen TVs. Now, for newbie, here is a small comparison between OLED vs. LCD, which will let you decide which is going to be your next TV technology.

What is OLED?

OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode and is made up of thin films of organic carbon based compounds which glow when electricity is passed through them. OLED TVs are the new flavor of the month and the intelligent marketing from the launchers of OLED TV has generated quite an interest among the viewers. Learn How OLed’s work.

A comparison of OLED vs. LCD shows that OLED has a clear edge over the LCD. OLED emits its own light and is far brighter than an LCD also unlike the LCD it does not need an external source in the form of LED backlights. The absence of LED backlights makes it thinner and more compact than the LCD devices. It is also weighs less and is more flexible as compared to the LCD. LCD Also because of its flexibility the OLED can be fabricated on plastic sheets. In fact there is a strong possibility that in future there may be roll up OLED displays. It is also easier to construct a larger screen with the OLED technology.

Viewing Angle

Poor viewing angle has always been the downside of the LCD TVs as only the viewer sitting directly opposite the TV can see a perfect picture. Those not directly opposite get a somewhat “off” picture as the colors and picture quality are compromised. On the other hand with a viewing angle of 170 degrees the OLED TV can be viewed from any angle as the picture and colors remain uniform.

The Contrast Levels

The deep black level and the contrast of the OLED TV are far more superior than an LCD. The maximum contrast ratio of an LCD TV is 10,000:1 while the new OLED launched by Sony has a whooping contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. The OLED TVs produce deep rich blacks because they do not require any external lighting and use less power to produce the black levels. Black levels had always been unsatisfactory on the LCD TVs and they also consume more power when generating black. Although there has been a marked improvement in the black levels of the latest LCD display but the inconsistency persists in off axis viewing.

The OLED TV boasts of a richer, more accurate, brighter and more realistic color palette. Although the color accuracy of the LCD TVs is also excellent but colors on OLED are more natural. This is because of the difference in the two technologies; each pixel in the OLED TV gives of light in three colors re, green, and blue and is capable of accurately reproducing every color under the sun. In the LCD TV colors are produced by manipulating the light waves and although the colors are quite impressive but are no match to the spectacular range of the OLED.

Refresh Rate/Response Time

Another area where the LCD TV is squarely beaten by the OLED TV is the refresh rate and the response time. OLED TV exhibits exceptional refresh rates and response time with the response time being a mere 0.01 milliseconds as compared to the 8 to 12 millisecond response time of the LCD. The refresh rate is also super quick and the end result is a smooth picture without any lag or blur which makes sports viewing, action movies and video games a treat for eyes.

Power Efficiency

As the OLED TV produces its own light, it is more power efficient; in fact the OLED displays at present have the lowest power consumption. The LCD requires backlights making it consume power however its consumption is less than that of the plasma TVs.

Burn-In and Longevity

This is where the romance with OLED  Vs. LCD TVs ends. Although nothing can be said for sure as the OLED technology is relatively new but there are chances that the OLED will suffer from burn-in and longevity issues. The tried and tested LCD TVs have no problems regarding the two areas and emerge as clear winners.

Price is another issue of the OLED TVs, being new they are quite pricey but hopefully with technological advancements budget friendly OLED TVs will appear in the markets.

Here is a video which shows display difference between OLED vs. LCD :

So, which is going to be your next TV? OLED or LCD display TV?

best Siri alternative

Since the release of the iPhone 4S and it’s amazing personal assistant Siri, everybody with an iOS device wants to get their hands on something similar. There are many options available on the internet and there are ways to even run the original Siri on older iOS devices. However, the battle for the best Siri alternative is still raging and I think I may have a winner. Of course, you will never find any app or jailbreak tweak that will bring you the complete functionality and interface of Siri, but something is better than nothing isn’t it?

The app in question today is called EVI and is a product of True Knowledge and the speech is powered by Nuance, the same company that powers the voice search in Siri. So, you must already think that Evi can do stuff that Apple’s Siri can. You’d be wrong! Because Siri has far more capabilities and can understand much more than Evi. However, this app is available for both Android and iOS, which makes it one of the best Siri alternatives out there. Evi is, as they say, a similar personal assistant to Siri, but not the same.

Evi : The Best Siri Alternative

After installing Evi on your iOS device or Android phone, you’ll be shocked to hear all the things that the one eyed personal assistant has to say. The voice recognition is pretty awesome and it works great in any country, however, it’s not really good with finding services in anywhere outside the United Kingdom. But, according to the developers, such services will soon be available for other countries too. I tried finding for some restaurants nearby and I was given some recommendations on Yelp!, which doesn’t work very well in India.

Evi screen 1

You can talk to Evi in plain and clear English and it should understand without any problems. During the first days after it’s launch, the performance was not so great because of the server load. Now though, it works great every time I try. You can ask it questions about things, definitions, answers to math problems, time and weather in various places and much more. If Evi doesn’t understand you, then you can simply type in your question and get the answers.

The most astonishing thing is the voice recognition, and the way it understands normal spoken and conversational English. Below are some screenshots of the app in action:

Evi voice recognition

Evi weather

If you speak clearly in to the microphone, the speech is very accurately recognized. Although, it still will not recognize names and places very well. Evi is currently available in the App Store for $0.99 and in the Android Market for free. I would definitely recommend you to try out this amazing app.

Have you tried Evi yet? How’s your experience with it. Do you have recommendation for any other best Siri alternative which works with older iOS phone?

Chrome properties

The Android Market is growing everyday and is slowly catching up with Apple’s App Store. And like you all know, with Android comes more freedom. Apple product are always limited, but of course you can get rid of those limitations if you wanted. Android OS is supported on some many phones, such that there are feature phones that do not have Wi-Fi etc but can run the OS. On such phones, it isn’t easy to download apps using the Market app, because it would be super slow over the Data connection, unless you have 3G. So, today I’ll be showing you how to download Android apps to PC from the Android Market.

A lot of people own low-end Android phones that doesn’t come with Wi-Fi or even 3G, in such cases wouldn’t it be nice to download applications to your computer and then transfer them to your device. Yes, you can do that! Thanks to a new Chrome browser extension, Android users can download apps from the Android market to their PC. There is not much to do here, just download them apps and install them on your device. Normally these low end phones do come with memory cards, which can be connected to your PC.

Download Android Apps to PC from Android Market

  • From Chrome browser, go to this link and install the extension.
  • You’ll get an error about SSL Error Warning. Don’t worry about it. Here’s what you should do to get rid of it. Right click on Chrome icon, select properties and navigate to Shortcut tab. Now you’ll have to add this parameter ” --ignore-certificate-errors ” at the end of the target box.

  • Now, go to the Android market and look for the app that you want to download. Click on the Icon at the end of the address bar to start downloading the apk of that app to your PC.

Updated: Apple has started sending out invites for March 7th Apple event which is happening in San Francisco. Though, there is no official confirmation about this event, if it’s going to be an iPad3 event or Apple might release something awesome.  This event will take place at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in S.F.

iPad 3 Launch event

We can expect iPad 3 to hit market before end of March in U.S and April in other countries. If you will notice the above official invitation, you might realize home button in iPad is missing.  (Hint?) Anyways, it would not be wise to speculate anything for now, as event is just a week away. We will update you with the latest update on iPad 3 Launch event, meanwhile join us on Facebook.

Even after the launch of iPhone 4S there are many rumors going on about Apple, but this time its not about iPhone, its about an iPad 3. It is supposed to be released in October 2012, which, of course is a major rumor. According to Susquehanna Financial analyst Jeff Fidacaro, the device is headed up for production. Fidacaro says:

Since our last month supply chain checks we are now seeing 600,000 to 1-million iPad 3 builds showing up on the plan for the fourth quarter of calendar 2011. Apple was supposed to produce between 11 million and 13 million iPads during the fourth quarter. Now, that range stands at 12 million to 14 million.

iPad builds
The Apple iPad3 will have a thinner and sleeker design, which will also support full touchscreen HD display with a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536. It will have a lighter battery to reduce the weight of the tablet and is going to be much more costlier then iPad 2′s battery plus it will have longer battery life. The camera is going to be much better than the previous version of tablet, it will feature an LED light and a 5 Megapixel camera with 1080p or 720p video recording quality of up to 60 frames per second.
iPad 3
It is also expected that the iPad 3 will have a wireless charging technology, which will be able to charge the battery and transfer data wirelessly.

Some of the features that are being predicted are :

  • A6 Processor
  • iOS5
  • 3D feature and Retina Display
  • Cloud Computing
  • Better Camera
  • Fingerprint proof screen

Release Date :

There is no official date for the release of iPad 3, but according to rumors, it will release in early 2012 or perhaps March 2012. The iPad was also released on March 2010, hence there could be a possibility that it will come in March of 2012. The main reason of delay of this tablet was the failure of Retina Display, due to some legal issues from the main competitor of Apple, “Samsung”. Now it is being said that all the legal issues are solved and iPad 3 productions has already started in China.

We will keep you informed with more Apple related news and rumors as soon as we hear more. In the meantime, tell us what are you expecting in the iPad 3?

Before I tell you about what you can expect at this years MWC, let me list the blogs who’ll be covering this event live.

Mobile World Congress 2012 Live Blogs

These are some websites where you get live coverage of latest happening at MWC 2012 :

The event lasts for 3 days and begins on February 26 and the blogs have already started covering all the product launches and press events. Here’s what to expect from the Mobile World Congress 2012.

What to Expect at Mobile World Congress 2012

Sony, HTC, Nokia and Samsung are all going to announce some new mobile phones. There have been many leaks of the Xperia U, Xperia P and Pepper from Sony, all of which will be running the Android 4.0. HTC is supposed to announce a bunch of phones too like the Endevour and the Ville, the former powered by a quad core Tegra 3 processor. Nokia will be announcing some more Windows Phone devices and the world version of  AT&T Lumia 900 called the Lumia 910. Then there’s the Lumia 610 and the new 808 Pureview.

Samsung has already announced the Galaxy Ace 2 and the Galaxy Mini 2, but there’s going to be more and maybe even a new tablet. LG will be showcasing the new range of L-series phones, the insane Optimus 4X, the Galaxy Note competition Optimus Vu, the Optimus LTE Tag and the Optimus 3D MAX ( Cube ).

Windows 8 could also be announced for tablets by Microsoft, as rumors suggest. Because, we’ve seen a lot of Windows 8 action throughout last year and even this, so don’t be shocked to see some Windows 8 tablets.

A lot more companies are going to announce new products, so that’s not all of it. You can check out the 2012 mobile world congress live blogs to keep yourself updated with all the latest news, products and much more!

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

The Mobile World Congress 2012 has officially kicked off and Samsung has already announced two new products. The Samsung Galaxy Beam and the the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. We’ve already talked about the Galaxy Beam, so here’s a little on the tablet. Remember the original Galaxy Tab 10.1 that was announced last year? This is it’s successor, but comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream sandwich. Samsung has named the tablet as Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and is the first new tablet to be announced in 2012.

Samsung states that the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be suitable for home and office use as it sports a large 10.1 inch display. Below are the complete specifications of this tablet.

Specifications of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

  • A 1 GHz Dual-Core Processor
  • 10.1″ WXGA PLS TFT display with 1280×800 resolution
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • Android 4.0(Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • A rear 3 Megapixel Camera and a front VGA camera for video calls
  • The rear camera can record at full HD.
  • 3.5mm Ear Jack
  • Samsung’s TouchWiz and Live Panel user interface
  • A-GPS and Glonass
  • Bluetooth v 3.0, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Wi-Fi Direct
  • 16/32GB of internal memory expandable via microSD (up to 32GB)
  • Standard Li-ion 7,000 mAh battery

The tablet will be available in both Wi-Fi + 3G and only Wi-Fi models, however, the shipping dates haven’t been confirmed yet. But, the United Kingdom will be the first to get the tablet, followed by a worldwide launch. Samsung, now has a hoard of tablets that users can choose from. A 7 inch tablet, the older 9 inch, the new 10.1 inch and perhaps new ones will be added to the list.

The new tablet has been basically launched, in my opinion, to take on the upcoming Apple iPad 3, which is rumored to have a Retina display and some other amazing features. So far, the Galaxy tablets from Samsung haven’t been able to dethrone the iPad’s reign and I don’t think they ever can!

There’s no word on pricing too, but we’ll update you with more details on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 as soon as we know.  There isn’t a lot new with this tablet, except for 3 inches of more display and Android 4.0 ice cream sandwich. Also, this tablet will replace the old Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. What are your thoughts on this new tablet? Do you think Samsung is just trying to get back at Apple and introducing tablets with similar specifications.
