We know how useful jailbreaking an iOS device is, but iPad 2 users never got the opportunity to experience it. You must’ve heard from your iOS friends how much they’re enjoying the freedom of buying applications and tweaks thanks to jailbreaking. If you’re stuck with an iPad 2 then you’re in luck. Earlier today, a certain tester/hacker leaked the much talked about iPad 2 Jailbreak that developer @comex was working on which uses the PDF exploit.
It was shared few weeks ago that Comex was working on anusing the PDF exploit that he’s known for. It was back in 2007 that he used the PDF exploit for jailbreaking iOS devices and has been known for it ever since. JailbreakMe 3.0 was supposedly going to be released soon enough to jailbreak iPad 2 using the same PDF exploit. Unfortunately, someone performed a dictionary attack and got hold on comex’s PDF exploit and leaked it on the internet providing download links and a tutorial on how to get it done.
Comex seemed unhappy about this and recently mentioned on twitter that someone had leaked his work, a rather buggy jailbreak into the wild. The leaked jailbreak for iPad 2, is hence only a buggy version and may not work properly if you’ve got a copy of it on your hard-disk. Also, Comex’s jailbreak doesn’t require you to connect your iOS device to a computer, it rather works by opening your Safari browser on your device and downloading the exploit. Here’s how to get the jailbreak running on your iPad 2, running on iOS 4.3.3 or lower. But, do not blame us if something goes wrong!!
- Open Safari on your iPad 2 and then download this PDF from this website.
- Now reboot and you should see a Cydia Icon on your homescreen.
- That’s it, simple as that. It could take sometime for your device to boot since it’ll be running the patch.
Also check the video after the break;
Again, only try this if you’ve got at least 4 iPad 2’s at your disposal, because this isn’t the official release and could be boogie trapped with lot of bugs. Of course, you could also wait for Comex to release the official jailbreak, which after this incident, shouldn’t be that far. This jailbreak will only work on the iPad 2 Wi-Fi only devices and not Wi-fi+3G devices, as far as I know, but if you got it working on your Wi-fi+3G iPad 2 then do let us know.
