Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 with RedSn0w 0.9.9b7

Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 with RedSn0w 0.9.9b7

Okay, so we’ve already told you about the latest iOS 5.0.1 update from Apple, meant for developers, which is supposed to get rid of the battery issues some users have been facing. If you’re a developer and have already updated to the latest firmware, then you should know that iOS 5.0.1 is jailbreak friendly. Why jailbreak? Well, to try out all those amazing jailbreak tweaks and notification center widgets available for iOS 5.

iPhone dev team developer MuscleNerd confirmed that the latest iOS 5.0.1 beta can be jailbroken by pointing Redsn0w to the iOS 5 final firmware.

So here’s how to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 beta using the latest version of Redsn0w. Download RedSn0w 0.9.9b7( Mac , Windows) and make sure you have with you the iOS 5 final ipsw.

  • Launch RedSn0w and make sure you’ve connected your device to the computer. Click on Extras>Specify Firmware and point it to the iOS 5 final ipsw.
  • It’ll identify it and not give any errors, then select Jailbreak and Install Cydia. You’ll have to put your device in DFU mode for this to happen.
  • Once your device boots up, you’ll see a white Cydia icon. Don’t panic.
  • Put your device into DFU mode again and then select Just boot tethered in RedSn0w to boot tethered. Now you should see the Cydia icon.
That’s done then. Your device is jailbroken. Remember, this will not work for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. You can also install the Semitethered jailbreak now, as that works on the latest beta too. Also, the iOS 5.0.1 beta expires on December 14, just saying.
