All those iOS fanatics out there who’ve been enjoying their iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 with the developer version of iOS 5 beta have something new to try. Although, the iPhone 4 has no untethered jailbreak yet for iOS 5 beta, developer iH8Sn0w has just released an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS running on the old bootrom.
iOS 5 beta was originally released only for the developers, but there has been ways to get it even if you weren’t a developer and try it. I’ve tried and I must tell that iOS 5 is a huge improvement over iOS 4 and I can’t wait for the final version to be out this fall. iOS 5 beta has already been jailbroken too, days after it’s release, and now the iPhone 3GS gets an untethered jailbreak thanks to iH8Sn0w. iPhone 4 users must still make do with the tethered jailbreak for iOS 5 beta that was released by the iPhone dev team few days back.
In case you’re sporting an iPhone 3GS with the old bootrom and are running iOS 5 beta, then you can use Sn0wbreeze 2.8[Beta 2] to untethered jailbreak your iPhone. ih8Sn0w tweeted earlier today about this development, but since iPhone 3GS running the original bootrom are rare these days, you’ll have to be really lucky to have one.
The only other way of jailbreaking your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS is by using the redsn0w or sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 1, which only tethered jailbreaks your iDevices. According to sources, there won’t be any untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 beta since it’s pointless as it’s only a developers version. Once the final version will be out, even the untethered jailbreak should be. Until then, don’t forget to tethered boot your iOS device if you want to enjoy Cydia and other cool stuff.
