Q. When I restart my computer the language bar appears in the taskbar. When i remove it, it reappears again when the computer is restarted. How can I remove the language bar for good?

Language Bar How to Remove the Language Bar from Windows XP

If you don’t know what the language bar is (that’s it in the screenshot above), it’s a component of Microsoft XP (installed automatically) that manages speech recognition and handwriting recognition for tablet systems. Very, very few people use it, of course, and for most of us it just takes up space. Getting rid of it is normally easy, but some users have problems getting the thing to go away. Here’s how to make the language bar begone for good!

First, if you’re lucky, turning it off the normal way will work: Click the little down-arrow in the language bar, then click Settings. On the “Language Bar” tab uncheck all the items and click OK. Click Advanced and put a check next to “Turn off advanced text services.” Click OK and it should be gone for good. Reboot and find out.

If it comes back when you reboot, try this: Click Start then Run then type Regsvr32.exe /u msimtf.dll

After that, do Start > Run again and type Regsvr32.exe /u msctf.dll

Reboot.

That’s the nuclear option to get rid of the thing if the first tip doesn’t work. If that doesn’t get rid of it, send me an email!
