How to Get Free Google Voice Account for India and Any country in the world

How to Get Free Google Voice Account for India and Any country in the world

Google voice is one free service from Google which will let you make free voice call in U.S.A. This service is currently available only in U.S.A. In this tutorial I will be sharing how you can get Google Voice account and number if you are in any other country including India.

To get started with first you need a U.S.A based incoming number to verify your Google voice account. To get a Free U.S.A based Incoming number, read my previous tutorial on How to get Free U.S.A. based incoming phone number.

Getting started with Google Voice Account:

If you will try to open Google Voice website from any other country apart from U.S.A you will  be prompted with message that Google Voice is not available in your country. To get rid of this issue, you need to use a U.S based proxy. You can either take help of any of  these free VPN service ( Do check which VPN service offer U.S based IP) or you can use proxy software like HotSopt hotshield and Ultrasurf.

In this tutorial I used combo of HotSpot hotshield and Ultrasurf. <Download Hotshied> <Download Ultra surf>

Install Ultrasurf and Hotshield. Start Hotshield and after that Ultrasurf.

Google Voice Account:

Now you are on a U.S based proxy site and you can access Google Voice website. <Link>. Now use your Gmail account to login to your Google voice account and follow the  steps mentioned to get a Google Voice account for yourself.

Select Google Voice Number:

First step is to select a Google voice number for yourself, which you can do by adding a word or your desired number. Follow screenshots:

Set Pin number for Google Voice account:

Next step is to set a PIN for your voice account so that you can use voicemail feature of Google Voice account.

google-voice-pin-number

Add a forwarding phone:

In this step you need to add your incoming U.S mobile number which we already got using my previous tutorial. That number will also be used to verify your Google voice account, so make sure you enter the number which you have and keep your softphone open, as you will be receiving a call on your phone to verify.

us-phone-number

Verify your Phone:

Now on the next screen you will see a code and link to call on your phone. Click on the link and you will be receiving a phone on your softphone. You need to type that code after accepting the code and instantly your Google voice account will be activated.

verified

That’s it and now you can make free phone call to U.S.A and receive call from U.S.A for free using your Google voice account.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in comment form and if you like this tutorial, don’t forget to stumble and share it on Facebook with your friends.

Is there any way to make free calls from/to UK ;)

  • Mani Viswanathan October 4, 2010, 11:59 pm

Nice trick. Bookmarked for future reference (Since I will be trying it out when I’m free :P)

  • Rohit October 5, 2010, 12:03 am

    Very informative post.
Just one thing I’m confused about, which number do I give my US friends to call me ?
The GVoice number or the IPKall number ?

  • Rohit October 5, 2010, 12:09 am

And how do you enter the code on X-Lite ?
I got the call, I received the call, and I enter the code. Then what ? Should I hang up or should I wait for it to hang up automatically ?

  • Prabal October 5, 2010, 12:11 am

Harsh, Thanks a lot for sharing this post. Really Useful !

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 12:17 am

It will be disconnected automatically and your GVC account will be activated..!!

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 12:17 am

    @Prabal
Thanks..I hope you got your GVC account by now.. :)

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 12:18 am

    @Rohit
GVC number..Watch out for next post where I will be sharing how you can make call it be diverted on your GTalk account instead of that incoming no…

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 12:19 am

    @Mani
You should try this.. DIY stuff are really fun to do.. :)

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 12:19 am

@Guna Is your Softphone open.. You are supposed to receive a call on your Softphone number and you have to dial those two codes which you get at last step to verify yourself..!!

  • Rohit October 5, 2010, 12:21 am

    Okay.
Thanks a lot, I finally got myself a number.
So can I uninstall stop using the proxy after I get the Google Voice number ?
And when I make calls from X-Lite are they free or are they charged ? If charged, do I recharge the sip account or the Gvoice account ?
    Sorry. I’m just too confused.

  • Kunal October 5, 2010, 12:24 am

    That’s cool.
I was wondering when will this Google Voice be launched in India.
    All thanks to proxy!!
    Nice trick Harsh.

  • Rohit October 5, 2010, 12:29 am

    I was stuck there too.
The trick is, pick up. wait for 14-15 seconds, then dial the code, you’ll be done.
Do not hang up. Wait for it to auto hang up.

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 12:33 am

    Hey Rohit
I understand your questions and it was confusing for me at initial point but yes here are things:
    1. You can stop using proxy site/software now.
    2. You can uninstall Xlite but you need to change your Google voice setting to forward call and sms to Gtalk

  • Prabal October 5, 2010, 12:42 am

DUDE , it WORKS for INDIA also .. free :D :D Luv CAG..
    wooooopie.. :) :)

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 12:45 am

Kunal even I was waiting for GVC to launched in India, but seems like it will take some time, but no worries now you can use it by using this little trick :)

  • Prabal October 5, 2010, 12:46 am

To all, free CALLS to INDIA also .. Enjoy .. :D Luv u CAG :) :)

  • Rohit October 5, 2010, 12:49 am

    Thanks a million man.
    Last Question:
Gtalk with voice would support free calls to US ?
and one more thing. IpKall and Tpad says inactive numbers are deactivated within 30 days, so wouldn’t uninstalling xlite automatically deactivate the Tpad sip account ?

Thanks man. You did a great job.
Looking forward to more such cool posts.

  • Prabal October 5, 2010, 1:06 am

Sorry for wrong information only 1-2 minute balance for india, but still CAG is best. :D

  • Pranav Jain October 5, 2010, 1:14 am

    Hi Bro,
Great trick , keep posting interesting DIY like this they are fun to experiment :)
And I was luking for some SIP for local calls within country
Can some SIP provide cheap calls then our local network providers like Airtel etc. ?

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 1:17 am

That free call is because of free credit of $.10 which you get when you sign up for GVC.

  • Jaydip Parikh October 5, 2010, 10:45 am

Harsh ! Really great tutorial. It took lot many time of mine but finally I got the Google Voice number. So Gr8. thanks for sharing such a nice tricks.

  • Pardeep October 5, 2010, 11:03 am

Thanks for sharing nice post.it vry useful.

  • Chetan October 5, 2010, 12:47 pm

Umm..! I didn’t understand quite of what you did in above tutorial?

  • techandlife October 5, 2010, 1:46 pm

Nice post Harsh. But I wonder what happens when Google eventually rolls out Google Voice worldwide – as they must do at some point. You’ve linked a US Google Voice number to your Gmail account. I wonder if in future you’d be able to change this to your local Google Voice number – or if you’re now stuck with the US number.

  • Akshay Khurana October 5, 2010, 1:55 pm

Google is no God, nicely tweaked Harsh. ;-)

  • Tanveer October 5, 2010, 5:03 pm

Hey Harsh nice idea to follow this tutorial to use Google Voice but i am wondering what happens when Google know about this trick? Permanently account banned or Permanently IP banned haa??

  • Mahesh October 5, 2010, 5:47 pm

I got a # from IPKall, but when I try registering it with GVC, I get the following error: This number is already being used on two other Google Voice accounts. Forwarding numbers cannot be shared across more than two accounts.

    Any solution?

  • Nasif October 5, 2010, 7:01 pm

    Hey harsh,
What should I put as domain in softphone settings ? sip.tpad.com or sipx.tpad.com ? Please help…

  • techyworld October 5, 2010, 9:47 pm

    Thanks for sharing nice post

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 11:28 pm

    Nasif it would be sipx.tpad.com

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 11:29 pm

Mahesh this is a known error..I would suggest try and try again.. It sounds funny but many people got it done after 19th attempt..Else wait for couple of hours and try again..!!
This is the same error which my frd got today while I was helping him…

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 11:30 pm

I don’t believe so..We are not hacking into their system..We are just using a part of system which is available..!!!

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 11:31 pm

You can change your number :)

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 11:32 pm

Chetan do let us know which part you couldn’t understand…

  • Harsh Agrawal October 5, 2010, 11:32 pm

That’s great Jaydip. Now don’t forget to read this tutorial and set everything for your Gmail and gTalk:

  • Mohammed Tanveer October 6, 2010, 9:28 am

  • vsr October 6, 2010, 11:18 am

Can i use my local Indian number?

  • Saket October 8, 2010, 11:44 pm

Nope you cant use your local indian number for now until google voice is released to the international public.

Btw, Harsh I was wondering if there is any cheap call forwarder service available? Coz it would be great if i can forward that us no. To my mobile no.

  • chaitanya October 11, 2010, 1:45 pm

i tried all the steps. When i enter the forwarding phone number, the one that I got from ipkall.com, google voice registration shows an error message that says this number is already being used on two other accounts and cannot be shared further.
    WHat shud I do now?

  • chaitanya October 11, 2010, 2:43 pm

    Hey harsh,
I tried to register on google voice, did everything u mentioned, but when entering the forwarding phone on GVC, it says tht this number is already being used by two other accounts and cant be shared further. You have also mentioned somewhere tht u got it in 19th try, i think i did so many and with a gap of an hour or so, but no luck!!!

  • Shael October 13, 2010, 7:33 pm

Yup, me too.. says that all the numbers are being used on two other google voice accounts.. sigh.. after all that effort.. is there any way around this part?

  • Daya October 17, 2010, 1:34 am

First of all, thanks Harish for sharing this post. It worked for me well..Yippee I got a GVC at last..but not before the same problem as Chaitanya and Shael..

@ Chaitanya and Shael: I too faced the same problem, I was able to register it only after signing up for Tpad and Ipkall for 3 different gmail ids which I already had! Luckily , the IpKall number for my 3rd account was free..Try signing up for different gmail ids if you have patience!

  • sanam October 18, 2010, 11:11 am

    Hi,
I installed HotSpot hotshield and Ultrasurf as mentioned above. But whenever I try to open my Google voice account it say ” Not available in your country”. Why is this ? I cleared all the cookies and tried but problem persisted. Though I haven’t received Google Voice Account Invitation. I just created new account and tried through this new account. Is the invitation necessary ?
