vista vs leopard How to Fix any corrupted system file in Windows VistaWindows Vista has an inbuilt utility called System File Check which checks your system files in case anything gets deleted accidentally or on purpose, it automatically replaces it with the original and makes your system as good as new.
I got to find out how useful this really was when I, upon insistence of a friend reluctantly installed a Vista theme that replicated Leopard environment on Vista. It was “Vista OS X Tranformation Pack” available at GUImods.com, although it warns that uninstalling it might be a problem and they have nothing to do with it, incase my processor gets deep fried!

As usual, I snuffed at the seemingly benign threat and proceeded with the installation, I played around for some time and finally decided to get rid of it. As it didn’t show up in Add/Remove programs and none of my uninstallers were able to remove it, I decided to take matters in my own hands and deleted the files manually including the registry entries using freewares Baku & CCleaner.

On reboot, poof! My Vista Aero resembled of Win98 look alike and my Aero didn’t run, worst part was that the Theme service displayes : “Error code 2″. What on earth was that suppose to mean.

After 1hour and 17 mins of useless trying, this is how the miracle happened : -

Start-> Type cmd , right click->run in elevated mode
Type in cmd prompt : sfc /scannow
Reboot System

It took about 10mins and my Aero was back up and running.
As mentioned earlier, this works for any Vista system file if need be.
Happy fixing!

P.S : That friend of mine is still happy running the inane theme as of now, can’t wait to see how he gets rid of this mess once he decides to remove it. Leopard Theme on Windows Vista! I feel nauseatic already….
