Google and Google products – How many do you use

I’ve been using Gmail since 4 years now, that’s the service I use most often, along with that its Google Analytics for checking stats of CallingAllGeeks, Adsense to keep a check of my earnings and Google Reader to keep track of my feeds. Occasionally, I surf YouTube.

Yesterday, I opened the Account tab in Google and was amazed to see the number of Google products listed under my account. Although, I don’t use them regularly, I might have had taken a peek towards their feature set and offerings.

Clubbing all these services under one account has many benefits. No more remembering different usernames and passwords for each of these and they being part of the parent Google, are easy to sync if the need arises. The process is quite streamlined. The only issue that bothers me is that, if I loose the password to any one of these, I stand the chance to forfeit access to all them,

What makes it even more interesting is the fact that in case of an identity theft it’ll make me a good candidate for Help-me-I’m-going-crazy contest. If you happen to be among the unlucky few and your account credentials get into the wrong hands – What should I do?

The answer is simple : Get your act together and stop sharing your passwords with friends, do not fall for phishing and never send your password by email to anyone (including your girl/boy friend).

You can try the forgot password feature but once bitten twice shy. It may not work for everyone and in that case – You are screwed.

Your system is like a sitting duck if not secured properly. Use an updated antivirus solution (I recommend Avira Antivir Personal Edition as its superb and free).

Here are a few of my recommendations for everyone in general :

• Orkut (For social networking)
• Reader (For RSS Feeds)
• Gmail(The best web client out there)
• iGoogle (Your personalized Google homepage)
• Picasa (For photo sharing)

Apart from these, one must create a Google Profile. It helps you get yourself indexed in Google’s database. Makes you searchable on the internet.
