There have been lot of rumors on the development of a certain Facebook branded phone, but were all denied by Facebook stating that there won’t be any such phones. What they actually meant to say was, that there won’t be any phones carrying the brand Facebook, but other phones from companies that would be having built in one-touch Facebook access buttons. You must be a bit confused now, so let me explain to what’s actually going on.
Two mobile companies, INQ and HTC have launched phones that seem to be the first-ever Facebook Phones with one-touch access to everything Facebook and features directly accessible from the Home screen. INQ launched two such devices known as Cloud Touch and Cloud Q, whereas HTC’s new Facebook based phones are known as Salsa and ChaCha. All of these phones run on the Android OS.
INQ Cloud Touch and Cloud Q :
Both of these phones, the Cloud Touch and the Cloud Q look exactly the same and have the same features, but the Cloud Q has a QWERTY Keyboard. They run on Android 2.2 and other features include a 5 megapixel camera auto-focus camera, 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen and all the Facebook related applications on it’s home screen. So basically, all of Facebook’s features such as News feed, places, friends, messages and everything else is your home screen. Both of these devices will be hitting stores some time in April and there is no information about the pricing.
HTC Salsa and ChaCha :
The HTC phones Salsa and ChaCha sound like some really flashy devices, but aren’t. What’s so special about these handsets? Both, Salsa and ChaCha, have a dedicated hardware button to access Facebook, but HTC hasn’t tagged these phones as “Facebook Phones”. The Salsa which is a full touchscreen phone features a 3.4 inch, 480 x 320 display, a 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and 512MB of RAM and ROM. The ChaCha carries the same processor, camera, RAM and ROM, but instead has a 2.6 inch screen with a QWERTY keyboard. Both these phones will be running on Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 with HTC’s flagship Sense UI. And that Facebook Key, well it does wonders!!
The Facebook button on HTC ChaCha and HTC Salsa is context-aware, gently pulsing with light whenever there is an opportunity to share content or updates through Facebook. With a single press of the button, you can update your status, upload a photo, share a Website, post what song you are listening to, ‘check in’ to a location and more. For example, you can take a photograph of friends on your phone and upload it instantly to Facebook by simply pressing the button. Or let your friends know what song you’re listening to by pressing the button while listening to music on the phone. The track is automatically identified and shared on Facebook. Also to be released in March 2011.
