Taking cue from Android and Apple’s iPhone, RIM is going to enable Internet Tethering in the upcoming BlackBerry OS 6.1. Some leaked slides unearthed by N4BB, confirm this and show us details about BlackBerry Mobile Hotspot. Just like other devices in the market, it will allow tethering to upto five devices at a time.
The Hotspot functionality will be manageable from the phone itself in BlackBerry OS 6.1. To save power, you can set it to turn off by itself after 10 minutes of inactivity. This is should a great news for existing users of BlackBerry phones as they won’t have to use the Desktop Manager for tethering.
Apple recently launched Personal Hotspot service on iPhone 4 and BlackBerry seems to be the only major smartphone lacking this feature as of date.
If you don’t wish to wait until BlackBerry OS 6.1 release and need tethering on your BlackBerry right away, you should get an application called Tether(Currently on sale with 50% discount) Tether is also available for Android phones.
