People at XDA-Developer forum have done it again. They managed to unlock Samsung Galaxy S Captivate and Vibrant as they got to know about the unlock codes of the mentioned devices. What surprises me is that the unlock codes for the devices are stored in the SD card rather than any secure remote server in .BAK format. However, it has been reported that once unlocked, Captivate only connects via EDGE but it will be fixed sooner or later.
Once unlocked, you can use any carrier on your smartphone. And the best part is that it will not void your warranty as you don’t have to root your device in order to unlock it. And even if you have to return the handset, you can easily relock the device and return it to your carrier. A full step-by-step guide has been posted on XDA-devs which can be used to unlock Samsung Captivate and Vibrant. People at Engadget have even successfully unlocked Samsung Galaxy S Captivate and Samsung Vibrant.
