Guide to Jailbreak iPhone 3G/3GS/4 online using Jailbreakme [iOS 4.0/4.0.1]

The great folks at iPhone Dev-Team and our current iOS superstar Comex have made available to us a Jailbreak solution for iOS 4 devices. This guide will help you jailbreak any iPhone 3G/ 3GS/ 4 device online using a website Jailbreakme.com. You don’t need a computer to perform the jailbreak.

For Your Info:
Jailbreak, in brief, is the process of freeing your Apple device from the restrictions imposed by the manufacturer. It’s a software installation which will hence give you ability to install third party applications including those unapproved by your carrier or Apple.

This tutorial has been tested and works for all iPhone devices having the latest firmware. The latest firmware version released at the time of writing this post is 4.0.1. If your iPhone’s firmware version is older you can get 4.0 or 4.0.1 firmware here and upgrade in iTunes and then proceed as follows.

Step One:

Launch Safari and make sure you are connected to a wi-fi or cellphone data network and point it to www.jailbreakme.com

Step Two:

A page similar to the screenshot shown here will appear. Move the slider to right just the way you unlock your iPod to proceed with the Jailbreak.

Step Three:

The download process will begin and once the required files are downloaded the jailbreak will begin. Sit back patiently as the slider moves forth. This may take longer if you’re on a slow connection of if the website is facing outage.

Step Four:

Once you’re notified that Cydia is added press OK and you’re done. An icon for cydia should be present on your springboard once you click the Home Button. Enjoy!

Note:

This process is absolutely reversible. You can simply restore your device in iTunes and set it up as a new one. You may want to do it before you take it to the Apple store for repairs.
