iPhone 3G Failed to Handle iOS 4

All iPhone 3G owners were happy to know that they can run iOS 4 on their iPhone 3G. But its sad to share that you can’t change the background image of home screen on your iPhone 3G and can’t do multitasking.

apple-iphone-3g One of the Gizmodo readers Erica emailed Steve regarding the missing features on iPhone 3G. Here is what she wrote:

Hey Steve! I just upgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS 4 and was really looking forward to setting a background on my home screen. Guess that’s not happening, but I’d like to know why.

See, I get why you don’t include multitasking. My iPhone gets pretty hot when certain apps run, couldn’t imagine how multitasking would fry my phone.

But the background thing, I don’t see how that would be memory intensive and/or battery draining. It doesn’t seem like that feature needs to be exclusive to the 3GS and 4G.

I hope this email finds you in good health.

Erica

Here is Steve’s short and disappointing reply:

The icon animation with backgrounds didn’t perform well enough.

This is disappointing for all iPhone 3G users who were waiting to enjoy iOS 4.

I am wondering that is it worth to download iOS 4 on your iPhone 3G, when there are two most exciting features are missing? Do share your views about this disappointing update.

Well Well, using a hack to get iOS 4 working in all its glory for me. Includes Multitasking, does well.

Will see how it handles some intensive usage…

Yeah Annkur…Go ahead and do let us know your experience.

I would settle for my 3G functioning again! I don’t care about changing a background. I’m not a kid. It’s a unnecessary detail. I do, however, use my phone for business and school Ever since I updated my software, my phone runs painfully slow, won’t properly sync and back up with iTunes, and the features that did show up on my phone are just not worth having the updated OS. If you want an updated OS with all those features then buy a new phone, or hack the one you have. I was excited about the folders, but folders are worthless compared to a functioning device.
